Roll for stats, get whatever equipment you think you might need in Freeport, then head over to the Inn. We can roleplay shopping if you would like to do so, or simply say you found what you needed at sourcebook prices.
Post a character introduction when you are ready. Once everyone has introduced themselves, we will move on to our first encounter, unless you need to roleplay something before hitting the road.
Haldir walks towards the inn, looking to find work that both protects the realm, and makes him some coin, having just spent all his gold, sold his sage ink supplies, his rope and bedroll, as well as most of his rations to purchase a crossbow to protect himself.
He has been working on a new amalgamation of his acrobatic and dexterous abilities with his magical acumen for flame and self defense, but hasn’t yet perfected the skill of bladesinging his mentors have trained him in…however he feels on the precipice of a breakthrough.
freeport eh? Sounds like just the place to test my new freedom from the academy.
(Haldir stands tall and thin, looks agile and elusive, with the eye patch pattern of a jaguar hiding within the glisten of reflected light within his almost pitch black fur. A tabaxi from the kh’tai woods, he seems out of place, except his garb and demeanor scream of culture and education, a sophistication clearly of elven origin in his mannerisms and posture.)
(That's a woefully low roll I got, though I guess it's on me for assuming we'd do it without rerolling ones. For instance, the one other ability score roll here so far did it with the ones rerolled, but me... yeah. This would be my character's introduction post, but it's literally 3am where i'm at, so I'll have no option but leave it to tomorrow.)
Rhi stands perched atop one of the higher buildings in Freeport. His head cocks to one side as he examines the busy coming and goings of the people, and files away each face, action, and gesture. Utilizing the discipline he learned among the highland monks since he was a youngling, he stands perfectly still atop the roof, his claw-like feet grasping at the rough timber tiles. He searches intently looking for his missing master, hoping to find clues in the most famous city in the land. He carefully places a beautiful but miniature glass heron in a crook of the rooftop before gliding down to the ground and gracefully, yet purposefully moves through the crowd towards the posted sign outside the FDF station.
Rhi shakes his head slightly in distaste as he contemplates the nasty creatures. Goblins, such filthy buggers. But his curiosity is piqued as he considers why there is an uptick in goblin activity nearby. Rhi recalls one of his masters favorite wise sayings, and in memory recites it gently aloud "Love the house and its crow. Which interpreted is; all things are connected" Rhi hikes up his bag of items left to him by his monk community and hikes towards the inn in long strides.
As you walk along the portside road, you notice a large building made of ornate stone and wood work. Above a small door swings a placard with the picture of two beautiful swans, one black and one white, swimming in a pond with lily pads all around them. Below the birds are the words "Swan Inn" in bold, ornate, red lettering.
The small door opens to a large room. A tall man in a black suit stares at you from behind a small lectern on which sits a large book. When he asks if he may help you, you tell him you are here to see Joe Smith. He gracefully escorts you to a seat at a large table near the back of the room by an even larger fireplace.
Sitting at the table is a stocky, muscular man who appears to be of the medical profession. He wears dark blue scrubs trimmed in white. On his shirt are two pins: the one on the right looks like an ivory cloud with a small golden lightning bolt descending from it, while the one on the left is an ornate, golden cross dividing a silver circle into four quadrants. Within each quadrant is a beautiful stone; one is red, one is blue, one is green, and the other is white. You recognize this as the holy symbol of the Eternal Elemental Coven, the most powerful beings in Niersala.
"Hello," the man greets you as he stands and offers a hand to you. "I am Joe Smith. You must be here about the goblins. Please, have a seat, enjoy some wine," he gestures to a large carafe of red liquid, "or water if you prefer." He picks up a glass pitcher and pours himself some water then sits.
You notice six place settings at the table other than the one at which Joe Smith sits. At each setting is a small plate with a bit of bread on it. Beside each plate is a small butter knife, and in the center of the table between the carafe and pitcher is a large pad of butter. Each setting has a different kind of bread at it: white sliced loaf bread, slices of marbled rye, dark soft bread, pita bread, a small dinner roll, and a bagel covered in all sorts of seeds.
Haldir takes the greetings in stride, nodding a sign of respect as he is spoken to. Silently walking up to the pitta, He comes behind the chair and rests his two hands on the seat back, “to protect the realm, to kill the enemies at our doors, and perhaps make a name for myself along the way… I am Haldir, and these are my desires. I hope they align with yours mr. smith. May I?” He motions to the chair with his eyes, implying he is requesting to sit at this location.
Performing the etiquette taught him by the elves in the academy/research center, he pours himself some water and turns to face Joe humbly: “how bad is it out there? I hope the numbers haven’t become too far out of balance…”
after listening to joe and others discuss, “I say we go on the offensive, take the fight to them, put them on their heals perhaps. It could give us time to bring reinforcements to the area.”
"From what we have gathered, the entire army is about ten thousand strong and under the leadership of a very powerful hobgoblin warlord. A small group like this could do little but reconnoiter the situation and warn the FDF. I think it would take an army to defeat this army," Joe says with a smirk.
"Here is what we know about the make-up of the Goblinoid Army," Joe says, handing Haldir a piece of paper. "There is a briefing sheet for each of you." joe hands out similar pages to each character. On them is the following:
The Goblinoid Army consists of the one hobgoblin warlord, and four hobgoblin captains over five battalions each. One battalion consists of a lieutenant from amongst the centurion ranks and over five centuries of troops. Four centurions report to one lieutenant, making five hobgoblin captains per battalion. Each century is made up of four platoons consisting of twenty-one goblins led by a hobgoblin platoon leader and three hobgoblin squad leaders. Each platoon is made up of three or four squads consisting of a hobgoblin and five to eight goblins.
Therefore, the entire army consists of one hobgoblin warlord, 104 hobgoblin captains, and 1600 hobgoblins, as well as between eight thousand and ten thousand goblins; that is around nine thousand goblins, 8800 goblins in the full beginning army to be exact.
Hobgoblin ranks:
Squad Leader
Platoon Leader
Hobgoblin captain ranks:
Centurion
Lieutenant
High Captain
Under each of the four division hobgoblin captains are three squads of bugbears. Each division has two scout squads and one special (assassin) squad. Each squad has six to nine (1d4+5) bugbears. Over one hundred bugbears are in the Goblinoid Army.
Haldir amaadir listens carefully, considering the problem and possible solutions. He thinks to the disguise spell he had learned, to forgery kits and ink and quill and lock picking skills.… he might regret selling his ink to have purchased the crossbow… a problem to solve once they had made some coin perhaps.
“I was trained in not only magic, but also infiltration. The sages convinced me it came quite naturally to me, and there was a joy in the challenge, so I have experience being sent where no one was supposed to be and have copied and altered texts that those opposed to my academy would have preferred kept secret… perhaps there are ways of misinformation within the logistics of this army, points where we could affect or break their communication or understanding of overall goals…”
he reflects to himself under his breath… “the politics of intellectual power are perhaps not so different to those of empire…”
”I am not yet at my best, the physical and monetary costs of long travel leave me not fully prepared for such a task right away, but perhaps my skill set is just what your problems require, and we were very much meant to meet. Do use me, within reason, as you deem reasonable.”

Yes. High Magic is available, and Kh'tai Wood is a perfect location to find elven researchers.
Freeport is a city similar to Waterdeep in the Forgotten Realms, where almost anything can be bought and sold for a price.
Almost done. Last questions before I make my first post.
-stats?
-starting equipment?
-just intro characters look and a few inner thoughts and bring them toward the inn?
Roll for stats, get whatever equipment you think you might need in Freeport, then head over to the Inn. We can roleplay shopping if you would like to do so, or simply say you found what you needed at sourcebook prices.

Okay. I have your character sheets. A variant human barbarian, Pertuie? I like it.
So, I assume you all have your starting equipment and gold and are heading to the Inn? Yes?
Do you have room for another? Yes?
Trylaern, who are you attacking?
(First time with the class, so should be fun.)

Okay, Trylaern has left the campaign before it even began in earnest. Rhi and Gale, would you like to introduce yourselves?
