Four strangers (Lurn, Ves, Jaq and Joe) come together in the city of Stenrek where a rather large, and at the time, unknown alchemical mistake caused most of the city to descend into first wild behavior. The party manage to find the source of the problem and get the problems creator to correct the mistake, revealing in the meantime that they had been paid by the local ruler to research something to control the city's non-elves. It, unfortunately, affected everyone regardless of species. The local 'thieves guild' helps the party throughout and the party also saves the daughter of one of the city's councilors and general.
The next day the party make a deal with a local drunk named 'Jolly' to take him to some sort of religious site in the forest to the north of the Duchy. He is vague on what he wants beyond that but the party soon also find that the local ruling elves aren't particularly keen on the source of the problem getting out or the story being spread about the party's heroics so the party escape the city, heading north. On the road the party visit a small town and on the way out run into an altercation between a half-orcish family and the local jeweler who claims theft on the part of the family. A dragonborn (Kroshav) intervenes, together with the party, on the family's behalf. It ultimately turns out a small boy in the family did in fact steal and the taken items are restored to an ungrateful jeweler.
The party have a number of tests of the on the way to Jolly's religious site including owlbears, traps, spiders (and ettercaps), ruins and statues, bugbears and goblins. When they finally make it to the temple they find ruins protected by a large number of skeletons and a black pool. The only person to touch the pool is Jaq, and then only one hand. The pool then spits up a rather large skeleton which, like its smaller counterparts, is quickly defeated. Inspection of the temple reveals it to have been desecrate, its original god(dess) forgotten and the Demon Lord Orcus having taken over. A symbol of the demon's power is found in the cellar of the basement and determined to be the source of the black pool directly above it. Lurn takes it upon himself, as an enemy of undeath, to grab the symbol...and run outside with it until the connection it has with the pool is broken - rather forcefully. When the dust settles from that all are found to be alive if not in great shape, Jaq's hand having taken on an ominous black color.
Further exploration of the cellars by the group finds a few profane tomes to Orcus along with a friendly vampire, Triss. Triss isn't in top form but still helps the party clear out the last guardians of the temple before rewarding the party for freeing her with a valuable tricket and a sword. She also offers the party protection and hospitality should they find their way to her home. The sword quickly bonds with Kroshav and the two begin to communicate. Sword, as the sword likes to be called, has the personality of a little girl but does find a disturbing amount of joy in killing. The party then decide to head back to civilization. Along the way they encounter more hobgoblins but they clearly weren't a problem or a sign of a problem...
I needed to move the stair slightly to the east for you to see what is going on, moving the entire map donked up my dynamic lighting lines. The light grey on the west side is just solid rock.
Okay, to get things caught up - Jaq is moving to within 30' of the drow looking down the tunnel and shooting one in the back. Joe and Co. are all down the stairs face to face with a single drow in the complete darkness (so Joe, Lurn and Kroshav can't see until things get lit up).
@Jaq, I have an attack (24) from Jaq that hits roll me 1d6+dex for the damage there.
@Joe, you have made two attacks and want to move but without darkvision the attacks would be at disadvantage. Alternatively you can hold your attack but then won't be able to move. Which would you prefer?

((No staff, but the naga could have gotten Joe a stone cudgel the golems have that would work as a heavy staff? She didn't have anything else to help with spellcasting unfortunately.))
((Gotcha, we can just roll through that now since Jaq is doing something to someone else.))
Lurn lights up his shield illuminating the surprised face of a Drow that Joe promptly shoots. The Drow yelps in pain as Lurn closes the distance and gets up in the drow's business.
((Though I will say that considering it would block Kroshav out of the fight maybe he wouldn't? Getting close would give Mikram an attack but he is perhaps less deadly than a sword wielding dragonborn. Your call Dlover.))

Oh, the staircase is only five feet wide? Okay yeah, it's far more sensible to let Kroshav in.

Lurn moves up behind Kroshav until the turn in the stairs to ensure he can shed light on both flights. If drow come into sight he'll hit one with Toll the Dead. If he can't see any he'll just keep moving up as far as he can while letting Kroshav stay in the lead.

Kroshav charges up the stairs with Lurn behind and finds the yelling Drow just out of reach (without needing a dash). He doesn't see anything in the darkness behind that Drow but can hear echoing footsteps approaching from that direction.
Lurn spots the retreating Drow around Kroshav's hulking form and tolls his bells.

((@Spider and everyone else, yes that's right. Based on where Lurn wanted to be the drow is near the edge of the dim light. Beyond him is darkness but Kroshav and all the rest can hear yelling and movement coming towards you. Also there were responding shouts coming from the south corridor. Nothing is within the light provided by Lurn, though the light to the south is somewhat blocked by Lurn's positioning. Same issue with seeing Jaq to the north, but Jaq definitely sees you.
@Dogs, your save DC is 16 right? The drow shrugged it off with that 18.
@Dead, I moved Joe up to get line of sight on the drow. Positioning okay there beside Lurn?))
A bolt of flame whizzes past Kroshav and glances off the side of the fleeing drow's armor, he is so intent on getting away he doesn't seem to notice.
