I have no idea how to put a link to the new Thread. its there now though tagged as private and titled "Lost Mine of Phandelver (Kolbitr DM)"
I am a little impatient to get this going so I went with the basic Story hook provided in the book. So for whatever reason your characters were all in Neverwinter When a dwarf offered you a job.
Go to the new thread, read the intro and tell me what your characters are up to. You are escorting Gundren’s wagonload of supplies, one or two characters need to be driving the wagon. The rest of you can be riding on the wagon, walking alongside, or scouting ahead, as you like.
We will continue to use this thread for anything other than gameplay, so any questions out of character stuff or just general chit chat, feel free to talk about whatever on this thread, just try to steer clear of politics. I will recommend "D20 Dames" Its an actual play D&D podcast I recently discovered and if you like D&D you will probably enjoy it.
At this point the game will progress by me setting the scene, as I have in the game thread
then you are all free to talk to each other in character as much as you like
you are also free to interact with the world, however, if you make an action that might require a skill check or illicit some sort of significant response, like say you want to climb a tree, or talk to an NPC. Do not make any more actions until I get back to you, you can stay in the conversation with the other members of the group, just don't take anymore actions.
For example if you guys walk to a bar and your character ask the bar tender a question, you are then waiting for me to give you the bartenders response, so don't go wander to the bathroom and start a fight before I can respond or just decide for yourself how the bartender responds (you don't know what I might have planned for that guy). However If the bartender still has not responded by the time another character asks you a question you can go ahead and respond to the other character. In this way I hope to maintain control over the world around you while letting you continue to role play your characters and goof around and such.
I added a bit more to my first post as the original was made quickly from my phone. I just wanted to know with Tibern playing did I need a performance check or is it ok to just have him play without it since he is mostly doing it to keep himself entertained?

Try not to go back and edit posts, that could get hard to keep track of, I would not have noticed the change if you hadn't pointed it out. Don't worry about getting your post in quick I will give everyone a chance to post at least once before I move the story along. as for your question, no you don't need a check for that. you could roll to try and set a certain mood or something like that if you wanted, but if he is just playing to play no check is required.
I will try to keep to a regular kind of schedule now posting some plot progression once a day. With some minor posts throughout the day when I can get away form work that wont move the story forward but may add some flavor or require a roll or two. Combat will run a little different as we will be posting in initiative order as your turns come up, but we will get into that when it comes up.
Do feel free to anticipate rolls. DD, if you wanted to you could roll while Tibern plays his lute, it would do noting in particular right now unless perhaps you rolled a natural 1 or natural 20. but if you are doing something you know will require a roll go ahead and roll. To make things more interesting when you guys roll a natural 1 I will allow you to describe how you screw up.
For now I was just going for more of an introduction post so I will hold off on rolling. But yeah if he rolled a nat 1 the string would have snapped and struck him on the nose. I played a few games irl and my favorite nat 1 story is when we had a ranger that rolled a nat one on both his attack roll and acrobatics check to do a flip as he shot his bow so he ended up getting his foot caught in his bow. He then broke it as he fell over fifteen feet this way and ended up having to fight the rest of that combat with a dagger he stole from a kobold.

Nice. I thought about using a "botch table" for natural 1s for this game, but I thought you guys might have more fun writing up your own botches. I use a this method in my skype campaign, if a player rolls a 1 they then roll a D100 and that determines how bad it is on a scale from 1 being just a plain fail to 100 which might kill you depending on what you are trying to do. I got the idea From the dm on "Nerd Poker" another actual play podcast. I listen to a lot of podcasts, mostly D&D and science stuff.
Those links are great saves a lot of looking stuff up, but don't feel like you have to use them, as long as all the rolls are done with the roller that's good enough for me. go ahead and practice that stuff here if you want to figure it out, we can help you out, I still don't understand all that stuff myself.
Did beyond notify you guys of the change in name for this tread? Just curious, I am still learning how this forum works so bare with me, I had never even actually posted in a forum until I found this play by post on beyond so I don't know exactly how all of it works yet.
