The Evermoors--that untamed and eerie expanse of fog-shrouded hills, cold bogs, rocky ridges, and small peaks--have always been a threat to nearby settlements and travelers. A place where trolls are as common as the mist, the Evermoors are known by some, unsurprisingly, as the Trollmoors. And it is well-known that hill giants, ettins, ogres, and orc tribes call the moors home as well. So, one expects to hear news of trouble in and around the Evermoors now and then: a caravan ambushed along Evermoor Way; travelers west of Silverymoon meeting a grisly end despite being well-armed; Olostin’s Hold repelling yet another troll attack; a group of prospectors vanishing into the mists near Surbrin Trail months ago and not returning; a seasoned ranger, over a pint of ale in Morbryn’s Shield, speaking of an arcane evil in Nesmé.
For the past month or so, however, the frequency of such troubles has noticeably increased. Search parties and skilled trackers have been sent forth to find the missing, only to return empty-handed or not at all. Nor have diviners, thus far, revealed anything of use. Confidence and commerce in the area are waning. Fears and rumors are growing larger each day.
The time for you to become involved has seemingly now arrived…
Hello, all.
After a self-induced play-by-post hernia that caused me to abandon ship several months ago, I’d like to take up the DM mantle again and create a tale with four or five of you during the months ahead. I’ve put together a high-level adventure, something that will hopefully allow me to utilize some powerful monsters that have long fascinated me while allowing you the chance to roleplay a rather mighty hero.
The setting for our story is the North of Faerûn (see map below), and I will remain true to the Forgotten Realms lore of that area. Additionally, I intend to create an adventure that contains a good mix of role-playing, exploration, problem-solving, and combat.
There’s no need, at this time, to do full character creation, but here are a few things you might like to know:
Starting level for all heroes is 13.
Ability scores will be generated by rolling seven scores (4d6, drop lowest, reroll 1’s once) and keeping the six best scores (if the sum total of those six scores is less than 72, then reroll all dice and start again)
Multiclassing is permitted, but the multiclass ability score rule must be met.
Feats are permitted. Additionally, ALL heroes will begin with one feat, regardless of race.
All official races and subraces are permitted
All official classes and subclasses are permitted.
Character equipment, magic items, and wealth will be discussed and determined after players have been selected.
If you’re interested, then please submit a character concept here that includes your hero’s name, class, race, position, and reason. By position, I mean the place of influence and power your hero holds in the North (preferably from a place on the provided map). Thirteenth-level characters have seen much, done much, learned much, and, therefore, likely hold positions of authority and importance. Have fun with this, but lean on Forgotten Realms source materials (and the provided map!) to create something that fits reasonably within the given time and place. By reason, I mean something specific that has compelled your hero to become directly involved in this matter. I hope to use this information as adventure starters for each player.
Map of Evermoors and Surrounding Area:
I know some folks like to have ability scores in hand as they generate a character; so, if that’s your case, then go ahead and roll as explained above.
I’ll check in regularly on this thread, making myself available to answer questions. When it seems that enough solid concepts have been submitted, I’ll close things down.
Hero's Name: Vlar Class: Fighter2 / Wizard 11 Race: Bugbear Position: Vlar left his homeland, in the Troll Moors, when he was ready to make his own way in the world. He had a need to learn and his clan did not have enough teachers to sustain him. He traveled the North, unable to find a home for some time, as few were comfortable with his kind. Eventually he did find a place he fit in, joining a mercinary band working out of Waterdeep. With them he had found a place that accepted him for who he was. They not only made a place for him, but pushed him to excel in his studies. Vlar became more skilled in fighting, and found a teacher for the more-martial wizardly arts. He worked his way up through the mercinary band, moving into a position second-only to the mercinary commander. He is not a friendly guy, more respected than liked, and has made a reputation for himself as a heavy-hitter among his peers. He is a team player though, likely seeing his team as useful tools than actual people, but knowing it takes the right tools to do the various tasks the team will come up against. He has a bit of a temper, which he is very open about with his team, making sure they know he can blow up sometimes, but he sees it as a flaw and works to control that temper as much as possible. Reason: Vlar has decided it is time to return home. Rumors of some strange happenings in the Moors has increased the urgency on this, as he needs to learn what has happened to his clan. In particular he has a female home with his clan, a family he has been sending money to over the years. He has returned to the Moors once every six months or so, back to see his family and to check on his cubs. Few, if any, know about his family, as he would not have shared that information with anyone, but some might have found out about it if they followed him back home to try to learn where he went on his six-month trips. His female is the only person he truly loves, and his cubs with her. Upon learning about the rumors in the Moors he would have found it impossible not to return immediately and make sure Clarus, his female, was ok, and to check on his cubs.
Reason: Came to Nesme as an adventurer and made his way through the ranks of the Nesme riders. He was tasked to patrol the Evermoors, partially due to his heritage and the other due to his skills as a competent fighter. Often times he would travel alone or leading small groups for months at a time. Somehow over time Nesme became his home and something worth protecting. A company of riders disappeared and he tasked himself to find them. There is a something wrong of late in the Evermoors. Something his superiors were not happy about, but oddly did not stop from looking into.
Name: Lyra Ravenscale Race: Wood Half-Elf Class: Warlock (Hexblade Patron) - 2 / Bard (College of Eloquence) - 11 Backstory / Position / Reason: See (first) spoiler below.
Childhood: Youngest child of a minor noble family. An afterthought. As a child, Lyra once found a small, strange dull black musical instrument. A harmonica. She keeps it with her always and plays brief, strange haunting chords on it whenever she casts a spell or inspires someone. There is something unearthly about it, not of this plane of existence. Stains her lips like dark lipstick. The harmonica is an artifact of Shadowfell and the mythical Raven Queen, who has now bonded Lyra for life whether or not Lyra knows it (or wants it).
The majority of the time, Lyra can charm her way out of anything. 95% of the time, she truly believes she can charm her way out of anything, whether true or not. 99% of the time: will... not... shut... up. One day maybe someone will set her straight. Probably not, though.
Pretty, though she has always relied more on her words than her looks. Not above using her looks, though.
Career/Position/Reason: Lyra ran off from her elven mother's home near Silverymoon as soon as she was of age. Bound for the City of Splendors, Waterdeep. There, she soon found a patron in the Harper mastermind Mirt. Lyra has run more assignments for the old man as a diplomat, spy, and sometimes combatant than she can remember. Always finding the right words, the right angle, the right spell. She has risen to be a one of Mirt's trusted lieutenants, to the rank of Wise Owl among the Harpers, though she suspects that wisdom may not actually be her greatest asset. Nevertheless, experience she possesses in spades, gained across all her missions.
But this one is special. She had to use all her considerable powers of persuasion on Mirt to convince him that she would be right for it despite her obvious personal stake in the assignment. In the end, the old man had relented and chosen her to go, though deep in her heart, Lyra knows that he is right to doubt her clear-headedness for once. Her mother, a bard in her own right, was among a set of travelers from Silverymoon who all disappeared without a trace before reaching Zymorven Hall. On the road skirting to the north of the Evermoors. Lyra has scarcely thought about or written to her mother in years, but something clenched in her throat when she heard the intelligence report, passed on from a reliable Harper source in Rivermoot.
Not as young as she once was, Lyra suddenly feels a deep sense of her own mortality, and the connection to her family in Silverymoon that she has worked so hard to ignore. Damn Mirt's doubts. She will find her mother and help right whatever is wrong in the Evermoors. Or she will die trying.

In summary his position is that of a Bounty Hunter. He is a renowned finder of lost people and things. His name and reputation made its to the Evermoors. Which brings us to the reason. A rich family member has hired him to find their sister who has gone missing. She was part of the group of prospectors that vanished near the Surbrin Trail.
But this one is different. The picture; SHE LOOKS SO MUCH LIKE Lily! I WON'T LET ANYTHING HAPPEN, this time.

Name: Obirith Malizath
Race: Dragon Born (Gold)
Class: Ranger (Drakewarden)
Background: Folkhero
Obirith has long been an adventurer and has on several occasions ventured into the Evermoors to deal with the various things that lurk there. He was once part of a group that was well know in the North for dealing with the machinations of the dreaded vampiress known as Lady Veltharis. She had been posing as a virtuous noble in order to lore prey to her keep and feed on them. After a battle that left many dead, Obirith and his companions slew the vampire. For decades the group continued to journey before each went there separate ways to either continue their adventuring or retiring for those who felt their age catching up with them. Unfortunately for Obirith, he was one of those who felt to old to continue so he retired to life as a wealthy citizen in Waterdeep. Occasionally he would leave his home to travel for short times, including his latest venture to meet with an old companion in Silverymoon.
I actually played through the adventure I talked about with the vampire and got to about lvl 16 or so. I see him being a bit weaker since he has been semi retired for about 5 or more years, hence his level being a bit lower. Age wise he is late into being middle aged but not quite into being a senior. As for why he is interested perhaps one of his companions of old convinces him to go or maybe he feels the urge for one last adventure as he is a bit bored with a comfortable life.

Rekuberk Onc Level 8 | Half Orc | Barbarian (The Tales of the Fellowship of the White Cloaks)
Sefara followed in her parent’s footsteps, becoming a Night in Silver. She quickly rose in the ranks, eventually becoming a commander in the Moon Garrison. She and her squadron fought against the monstrous threats seeking to destroy the city and the surrounding villages. She is well known throughout the land for her deeds in battle. However, with attacks becoming more frequent and the threats continuing to grow, Sefara believes it is time to take the fight to the source.
Frenevir's family can trace their lineage to the old Myth Drannor. They were among those who fled the city when it first fell, her own gran-grandmother a renowed warrior who scarified her life to gave her descendants and the Royal Family a chance to flee. Frenevir lived upon her example and trained and studied hard to become a member of the elite bladesinger. He didn't succeed. An accidente involving he being training when he wasn't supposed to be and a mishap on casting a fire spell ended with the burning of half the academy and he was expelled. he swore not to use fire magic again and then went on his own to the continent of Faerun and started to do what he always wanted to do, help the elven people. Carrying the principles of the bladesingers, if not their name and formal training, he accomplished some missions in the continent recovering elven artifacts and helping refugees to reach Evermeet, he finally joined the forces of Akh'Velahr and their efforts to retake the old elven kingdom. After they succeeded Ilsevel Miritar asked him to act as a liaison to Neverwinter, as part of the efforts of the new elven kingdom in the south. Now a full member of the bladesingers and his affinity to cold magic ( due to the former accident he has developed some signature cold-based spells) and thanks to the time he spent with the others races of faerûn he seemd as the appropiate candidate. After a couple of years of negotiations and contacts a trade route were finally stablished between the distant kingdoms. Now that is in danger due to the recent dangers coming out the Evermoors.
