Hin bows her head, acknowledging Sierra's introduction. "A pleasure to meet you, Sierra," she remarks with a flourished bow. "Do you have a specific specialty you're planning to follow here?"
In response to Zodiac, Calo's eyes grow comically wide and they quickly retreat. Hin pulls out a necklace from inside her shirt, and hanging from the chain is a minuscule bird cage. They squeeze through the bars, camouflaging against the white and copper background. "Calo says 'Hi' back, Zodiac," as she says this, the octopus turns a disagreeing shade of blue in protest.
"If it is not an illusion, I'd love to go outside. As long as it is safe." Her eyes grow wide as she pulls out an old spellbook from seemingly nowhere and with a wave of her other hand, she materializes a quill from thin air. She opens the thick leather-bound book, its spine cracking audibly. "Draconic anatomy is fascinating. But you're right Iridh, I think I'll let my Professor know of the situation, just in case." She sets the quill down and places two fingers on the ruby inset on her brooch. She whispers something unintelligible under her breath, and after a second of thought, speaks again: "Professor, two students came into our tower seeking shelter from something outside. Is everything ok? Spare no detail." She then pauses, making sure the message was sent, and once again picks up her quill. "Let me know what Zodiac sees, Vera. Especially if there is anything particularly peculiar, strange, or special. Leave absolutely nothing out!"
(ooc: I've always wanted an excuse to RP that one Sage flaw, the one that goes: "Most people scream and run when they see a demon. I stop and take notes on its anatomy." I guess now's the time loll)
Laurence hums in agreement, "but if something's really happening outside, we can't just stay here forever either." They stand up, their opossum familiar hopping off their shoulder and onto the table to work on another cookie. They head back to their room, re-emerges with a sword at their hip, and waits for Vera's findings.
"Obviously you are correct, Laurence was it?" says Iridh, "but I'd rather leave our sanctuary too late for the action than too early." he carefully sets his teacup down on his lap. "Waiting for the return of Vera's familiar would be prudent."
Vera decides to back track a bit while trying to concentrate on the connection, her eyes are nothing but glowing pairs of orb lacking any pupil or iris. She's literally blind during the process of looking through her familiar's eyes. As a result, she attempts to feel her surrounding and make estimation regarding the position of furnitures, stumbling rarely since she's familiar with the place.
Finally, when she assumes that she has managed to get closer to the new comer (Sierra), she continues to speak, "Yes, yes! We've met the one and only Thul, the Loreweaver himself in flesh and blood. It was rather a new experience for me since I had never met a deity like him before."She's standing nowhere near Sierra and talking to a bookself. After that she will respond to the comment of Iridh.
"I fear that Zodiac might get eaten by that draconic creature if he fails to find a proper cover."
Iridh waves his hand airily, chuckling at Vera's disorientation. "He'll be fine, you should be able to simply re-summon him. Death is a bit traumatic for a familiar, but completely harmless after the first time. Horatio's died a couple of times himself, he would know." he pats his coat, out of which emerges a trembling closed claw, as if Horatio were waving a fist at Iridh. He fails to notice this.

Hi, I am not a chest. I deny with 100% certainty that I am a chest. I can neither confirm nor deny what I am beyond that.
I used to portray Krathian, Q'ilbrith, Jim, Tara, Turin, Nathan, Tench, Finn, Alvin, and other characters in various taverns.
Vera you send Zodiac out to survey the courtyard while staying close enough for you to be able to look through his eyes. The first thing you notice through Zodiac's eyes is there are several people moving across the courtyard. They don't appear to be traveling from one place to another, they instead looks as if they are searching. Perhaps they're searching for signs of this draconic creature? There is a brief moment where Zodiac spots something massive flying through the sky, but just as soon as he spots it, it's gone again. He only spots it because the stars in the sky temporarily disappear. Whatever it is, blends in extremely well with the night sky.
Hin you reach out to Professor Maz, asking your question. Vera, Zodiac notices one of the people in the courtyard stop walking and fumble with something. A few moments go by Hin before you receive a response "Please stay in your tower, Hin. We've received word of something on academy grounds. We're currently investigating and trying to assess the possible threat."
"I am but a Scribe. I study under Professor Mazhulli'maameq'zall'lulath." Hin gives him an over-flourished bow to accent the introduction. "And you study Divination with Vera, correct? It would be surprising if that's not your specialization, to say the least, based on how often I catch you looking at superstitions and historical literature in the library." She sits down at the table again, jotting down something in her book. She stays silent like this until Iridh mentions the trauma that is a familiar's first death. She chuckles. "Calo's too mush of a caitiff to get into any kind of dangerous situation. That reminds me of Barburry's old ferret familiar, Scritches, however." She's interrupted by her Professor, and gives a small but defeated sigh. "Since it looks like we've got some downtime, I'll just tell the tale." She clears her throat, and begins. "It was our first day as students at the academy. We met with my Professor, the one giving the last half of our orientation, and spent a few hours transcribing our spells and moving them to the Academy spellbooks. That time passes, and the Professor tells us we should pack our bags, because," after a single pause (Forgive me, Redeemed.), she continues in a voice that is absolutely identical to the Professor's, "I'd like to take you to a brand new archeological dig we've uncovered in the past few days!" She switches back to her own electrified voice. "And so, he does. The five of us, and the Professor, we all go through the portal to this dig site. After a few minutes of searching, Barburry and I go into a cave and find a passage too small for either of us to fit into. So Barburry, looking through Scritches' senses, crawls around in the space. It gets smaller, and smaller," as she says this, she hunches up and gets increasingly quiet, "and smaller. Barburry and Scritches manage to squeeze into the teeny-tiny passage, and at the end they find a magical metal rod. Curious, Scritches grabs it with his little paws and starts fidgeting with it. Until suddenly, POOF!!" Her voice explodes, and she rocks back in her chair while spreading her limbs out in a faux combustion. "Scritches is gone. Poor thing. But through a creative use of the Gust spell, Barburry the Reverse Vacuum Cleaner, was able to push it out of the space." She reaches into her pocket and pulls out a shiny metal rod. "I've kept it ever since. It comes in handy, sometimes, and you can use it as a quill... in specific situations." She holds it up for everyone to see.
(Scritches will forever be immortalized by this story. I just hope I did him justice.
Also I keep forgetting I can make mushroom puns. This is gonna be so mush fun... >:) )
Vera goes silent for awhile when Zodiac starts to project live image of the courtyard. At first she assumed that the moving populace were just lurking around while searching for trouble. But, once she noticed a systematic pattern in their movement she realized the fact that the academy had sent a search party, and they're concerned about the well-being of the inhabitants.
When Zodiac let's her see the outside from a different angle, she is immediately aware of the presence of the large draconic creature. She discerns from the evidence that the creature is using the background of the dark sky to his advantage so that it can provide the creature with a perfect camouflage. Only an intelligent creature can do such thing. But, what might be the intention of the intruder? Why would it appear here all of a sudden? Is it somehow linked to the appearance of the new student?
She will relay the message in cryptic words to the group of fellow students, "A sign of ill omen is blurring the stars and casting great shadow over the land of peaceful sanctuary..... showing excellent perception of our disability, our vulnerabilities."
Finally, she will send a telepathic message to Zodiac instructing him to flap his wings audibly and make croaking noise to draw attention of the strange creature.
Iridh listens patiently to Hin's story, "That's quite a story, I'll have to remember that use of the gust spell. You are correct, I study divination under Professor Galyra. It's a noble enough occupation."
