While Alkyn becomes unseen to any who didn't already know he was there, Adem finds the door stops as he tries to open it, as if something were leveraged against it. With a harder shove, the chair that was being used to barricade the door breaks, and the door opens.
The young man is met with the ferocious screaming of children, and a hail of objects. Two younger children, a boy and a girl, and an older teenager girl are huddled in the far corner of the bedroom, pelting Adem with whatever random objects they can get their hands on. Wooden toy blocks, jewelry, books, and other such things fly through the air towards the now open door.
"Whoa there!"Adem calls out, putting an arm in front of his face for protection against the makeshift projectiles. When they've run out of things to throw, or there's otherwise a lull in their attack, he'll throw up his hands. "We're not here to hurt you." He glances back towards the corpse of the man who undoubtedly lived here, briefly following up with a meaningful look to one of his new companions before turning back to the children. "My friends and I can help you. Is this your home?"
Ramia takes the cue, and starts looking around the room for something to cover the dead man's body. If she fails to find anything, she'll reluctantly unclasp and use her own cloak.
As I work with children in town, I step closer to get a good look at them and see if I know any of them. "It's Sariel." I say in a calm voice right behind gentleman who opened the door.
Seeing the effort to hide the body, Alkyn drags it to the side of the door outside, then the chest in the room disappears and reappears over the body. He reenters the house, leaving the door ajar, watching the street through the tiny gap.
Alkyn's illusion falls over the body, completely hiding it from sight. Through the tiny gap in the door, he can see other civilians beginning to flea the tavern across the street, heading east.
The children seem to ignore Adem's pleas, reaching for more objects to throw when Sariel pops their head in. At the sight of them, the oldest puts a hand up to stop the two smaller children. You don't exactly remember the teenage girl's name, but she does look familiar, and she seems to recognize you as well. All three of them sport the same rust colored red hair, and a bridge of freckles across their noses. Flicking her eyes between Adem and Sariel, she finally locks onto the cleric, "W-where's our dad?"
Aryniel checks out the door, seeing the people run to the streets stirs some concern in her, she steps outside and immediately looks up, her eyes looking for the enormous shadow from before, to the east where they are headed then out to the sides seeing if there are any more of the raiders from before.
Hells...Adem thinks miserably to himself, at a loss for how to answer the question. Children were not his expertise, and when in doubt...Truth it out."He's...Gone. But he kept you all safe, and we're going to do the same. Do you have a cellar of some kind? Or somewhere extra safe you know of in town?"
Looking up, Arynielquickly spots the dragon, circling lazily high in the sky slightly northwest of the keep. You can see now that the opposite side of the tavern you were in earlier has been set aflame, though you don't see any raiders in the immediate area, partly due to a smoky haze that has settled in. The townspeople fleeing east are clearly moving towards the keep in the center of town, which is ~350-400 feet from your current position. Before you can look away, the dragon tucks into a roll, diving towards the keep...(Aryniel make a perceptioncheck.)
Back inside, Adem and Sariel see tears well in the eyes of the girl upon hearing the fate of her father, but she steels herself and nods. The two smaller children don't quite seem to comprehend it, still looking incredibly frightened. "N-no cellar. There's the keep. It's where we were gonna go before...Before those men came."
Aryniel beckons the others outside, "Come on! Won't be long until this is reduced to embers as well, the tavern is well on its way!" she moves over to the side to give view of the burning building, "We make it to the keep, this house won't last much longer!"
I do my best console the children and the older girl. "Your dad was very brave keeping you safe. Now, let us do the same for you all." I say with a smile. "Please, when we leave here keep close to us."
I play a tune on my viol and will do Blessing of the Trickster on the youngest of the children.
(OOC: From here would I know the shortest route to the Keep?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Alkyn nods with a glance at the room from which the children emerge, "I'll scout ahead," he says.
He seems, if anything, relieved. As he slides out the door he tries to merge with the flickering shadows. He knows where the keep is and wants to find a path which reduces the likelihood that they will encounter more groups of rabble. Never work with children or animals. Always gets messy.
Aryniel watches as the dragon continues its dive towards the keep, lightning crackling from its mouth as it charges a powerful blast...You see it suddenly roll out of the way as a fiery explosion rips apart the air where it had just been, singeing the backs of its wings. By your eyes, the explosion seemed to appear out of nowhere. As you beckon the others outside and continue to watch, the dragon banks to get back on track with the keep when another explosion detonates, this time right on its face. You hear a loud, pained, roar as it continues forward, strafing the tops of the keep's walls with a blast from its lightning breath attack. It passes over the rest of the keep, gaining altitude as it continues on its trajectory south.
The older girl nods, turning to whisper quietly to the smaller children. After some convincing, they seem calm enough to follow the rest of your group. Sariel would know the regular path to the keep would be the road heading north, then going east at the first crossroads, which would take the group there, albeit through parts of the town that are now a blazing inferno. The southwestern wall of the keep is to the direct east of their current position, which would take the party through a region of wooded brush(dangerously close to becoming part of the inferno), before giving way to the hill the keep sits atop.
Ramia follows the rest of the group outside, eyes wide as she catches the tail end of the dragon's attack on the keep. And that's where they were to go for safety? She shakes her head, wishing instead they could make it to the town's outskirts. The suggestion might have been voiced, if they hadn't found those children. Getting through all those raiders with them in tow would be beyond difficult. The keep was much closer, besieged as it might be. "I don't think we should take the road there."
Aryniel shouts to the others "Eyes peeled! Someone is fighting back!" and points to the keep, "We need to get there before the flames cut all our exits!" then the elf narrows her eyes as she finally notices that human children will be accompanying the group. She shakes her head helplessly and sighs as she unfastens her cloak, pours the content of her waterskin over it, and kneels as she hands the wet cloth to the oldest girl, "Over your heads child. This will take the brunt of the heat, stick close together." she pats the girl on the shoulder and tries a sympathetic smile, which still might look somewhat savage and disconcerting to them. The elf then stands back up and nods at the others, ready to go, "We keep to the shadows. Which way?"
Adem looks to the keep at the elf's direction, wondering what weapon they could possibly have to combat the dragon. "Guess we'll find out soon enough."He thinks aloud, falling in behind the others.

Racking my brain I say, "I think directly east would be the most direct route. It's an area of wooded brush but it may give us cover. I fear the fire might spread quickly. We should go."
