The Flensed Servant and its crew were once one of the most fearsome pirate ships that sailed the seas.
Rumor has it that centuries ago, captain Calabran of the Flensed Servant was betrayed by his first mate, who signed an infernal pact with the fiendish captain of a mysterious ship called Bloodgrinder that had recently arrived in a neutral port. In exchange for immortality, it was said, the first mate sold out his former crew.
While transporting a supposedly secret treasure haul, the Flensed Servant, which could outmaneuver any other vessel on the open water, was intercepted due to Bloodgrinder’s seemingly impossible speed. The Flensed Servant was boarded, its crew slaughtered, its hull pierced, and its treasure taken by Bloodgrinder.
As the Servant began to sink beneath the waves, Calabran prayed to any who would hear him and promised that he would do anything to deliver revenge upon Bloodgrinder and its captain. His prayer was answered by a powerful fell force, causing the ship and its captain to rise up from the ocean as they were pulled back to undeath.
Bloodgrinder, however, left the Material Plane through an infernal portal shortly after its plundering of the Servant to return to the Hells. Unable to pursue his target but painfully aware of its continued existence, Calabran and the Flensed Servant aimlessly scour the seas, sinking any ship unfortunate enough to cross their path.

Backstory: Ahorangi was touched by the Whale Mother at birth, a goddess worshipped by the inhabitants of her small fishing village. The blessings of the Whale Mother enabled her to pass the trials to become Chief of the village despite not being of the patriarchal line. The whole village went out on the village's largest ship to scatter the former Chief's ashes to the sea. A great whale attacked and sunk the vessel and all were lost. Ahorangi woke up on a distant shore missing an eye but determined to discover why her goddess had forsaken them. An ethereal spirit appeared to her, a visage of herself whole and happy, who informed her what sunk her vessel was not a whale, but a ghostly ship...

Name: "Captain" Laszlo
Race: Sea Elf
Class: Swashbuckler Rogue
History: “Captain” Laszlo is almost certainly a pirate. He looks like a pirate. He talks like a pirate. He absolutely fights like a pirate. The only problem is he’s never actually been on a ship before. Raised in the sheltered underwater Sea Elf community of Shoal’s End he has spent his entire life watching the thrilling adventurers of others from beneath the waves. It took years of looting the sunken remains of countless vessels, but he was finally able to acquire everything he needed to build the perfect pirate ensemble. Now armed with a barnacle encrusted long coat and only slightly bent rapier he has set out from the safe waters of his home to enlist on the first ship he finds.

Name: Mizzen
Race: Triton
Class: Paladin, Oath of the Open Sea
Backstory: Mizzen has encountered both the Flensed Servant and the Bloodgrinder ships at least twice every month. He served on the Flensed Servant since he was 20 years old as a marine until an incident involving him with a rival crewmate caused him to lose his position amongst the crew and resulted in his exile back into the open sea. When he found another ship to work on, it was unfortunately destroyed by the newly revived Flensed Servant which happened to be his former ship. Furious of losing two crewmates, two pirate ships and nearly his life in just 2 years, Mizzen decides to rally a team to fight against the one who dared to mess with his marine life... and maybe the infernal threats that lurk within them.
Growing up in a small sea side town, Torach enjoyed the stories of the older fishermen, fantasizing about the lore, superstitions and adventures at seas, he dreamt of one day being a swashbuckling seafarer himself.
How ever he was a prodigy at the divine arts and was enrolled at a young age in the military in the medic unit, the elders of his clan thinking that being a simple fisherman was below someone of Torach’s skills, and Torach not wanting to disappoint his clan he followed their wishes. Training along aside the holy soldiers on a daily basis honed his ability with a blade, and how to call down the power of the divine if needed.
With rumors of a ghost ship or cursed ship off the coast, Torach was selected due to his excelling in training, his following of chain of command and his background in marine history and lore. His mission is to investigate, and exorcise any spirits if needed and report back any of his findings.
Torach can’t help but think that the all mother is smiling upon him to be offered such a mission, he thinks about his youth and how he wanted to sail the high seas, maybe he can live out that dream, while still focusing on his task at hand
(OOC) Hyped about this, i grew up in a small seaside community, so lore and superstitions about the sea was common for me, looking forward to see how this story plays out, even if am not selected I may read the forum as it progresses

Name: Mara Agua Race: Water Genasi Class: Druid (Circle of the Land, Coast) Character Sheet: https://ddb.ac/characters/69152489/e4EP5J Backstory: Mara Agua isn't sure what her heritage is, having been quite literally raised by wolves, but she had a happy upbringing in her forest home near the coast. She shared joy with new pack-mates and sorrow as older pack leaders passed away. But she also formed new bonds, such as with her centaur mentor Jinete Sabio. He taught her the ways of the druid and helped her to develop an greater connection with her wilderness home. But now she feels called to the seas and desires to put an end to the rampage of the Flensed Servant. Whether that be by taking on its crew or helping them find peace, she's not sure. But she's determined to try
Gubo didn't grow up near the ocean. Not even near a city that was near an ocean. His family were big city people, and he grew up a big city hare. But boy, was he rowdy. Bouncing off the walls was a phrase meant to be literal in his house, and he never found a way to curb his seemingly endless energy. The children around him would shy away from his tiring excitement, and adults would talk about him behind his and his family's back. His chaos never quite fit in with the chaos of the city.
He found music when he left his home and while that helped a little bit, he was still considered to be wild. In an attempt to learn how to live a calmer life, he traveled the world to learn more about the lifestyles of druids, priests, and monks, but it wasn't until he found sailing that he truly found some inner peace. He hopped from crew to crew for a few years. But when he joined the [insert ship name here]'s crew something clicked, and he finally feels like he belongs.

Before he ran off to join a cult in hopes of a better life, her brother taught her how to cheat, steal, sneak around, and most importantly, use her small stature to hide or fit into small spaces, and her innocent looks to fool anyone. She's been living pretty well if you ask her. Fleas are to bad since she moved to the coast, not to mention all the trade in the area. She had come to the area seeking adventure. Though she never thought she'd end up open sea. How did she end up in this predicament? Well, when you steal something, and someone can see past your innocent face, what do you do? Run as fast as you can then hide in the smallest place possible. In this case, it was a large pot inside of the ship's kitchen. Well, it could have been worse.
