"We were hired to escort these supplies. One of our own gave his life to get them here safely.." Trombin trails off, thinking of his downed friend who is covered on the cart.
Trombin takes his time and thoroughly searches through the teeming shelves. He doesn't know what he's hoping to find but he is sure to leave nothing unturned.
(OOC: do I need a search check if I'm 'taking 20'?)
Trombin looks for things like: chalk, dice, playing cards, small pouches, and he's been trying to find a rapier for a while so he's searching for that too.
I know from my years wandering that walking unprepared into a new environment can be just as fatal as walking unprepared into an ambush. Seeing how well we handled the latter threat, I pick out 5 torches, a shovel, a bottle of oil, a large satchel, a ladder (we'll find some way to carry it), some lose pages to expand my notebook, and a keg of ale (should one be in stock).
"Lets make sure we are well supplied for pursuing those goblins before we leave here."
You find all that you wished for, except the rapier and keg of ale. Barthen does not sell weapons or food.
The man soon returns after inspecting the wagon. "All seems to be in good order. Gundren will be pleased." He scans the items quickly, taking them all in and estimating the price. Trombin finds his piece of chalk, a dice set, and 2 pouches. "Me halfling friend, that'll be one gold piece, a silver and a copper."
Tannen finds 5 torches, a shovel, a ladder, a flask of oil, and 3 sheets of parchment. "Tannen, yer total is two gold pieces, five silvers, and five coppers."
"Trombin, ye can find that rapier at Armstrong's smithy. Tannen, I suggest you look at Gallow's Alehouse." He shakes you each by the hand. "Nice to meet the lot of ye."
Ragna looks to help and offers to say a few words about this hero. He uses a ritual to help prepare the body. As he does he prays “ Great Mordrain please make room next to your Forge. May he find comfort there. May his friends find peace and continue on”
Grindal stands a little ways back from the group with his arms crossed, grumbling as usual. At one point he wipes his eye and says "Durned dust, gettin' in my eyes and makin' 'em water."
Now that the shock has worn off I mourn Telethin in earnest, despite being acquainted with him for only a few days. I reprimand myself on not thinking to learn any healing or necromancy tricks while in the Academy.

"We were hired to escort these supplies. One of our own gave his life to get them here safely.." Trombin trails off, thinking of his downed friend who is covered on the cart.
The man is a little taken aback to hear that their was a death on such a simple journey.
"I am very sorry for your loss. If Gundren had known that the roads were so perilous, I am sure that he would not have given you such a task."
He regretfully walks out to the cart of provisions with the two young men, leaving you alone in the shop full of equipment.

"Thank you. Mind if I look around at your wares?" Trombin asks as they're walking out the door.
"Suit yourself," Barthen calls over his shoulder. "Yer welcome to the lot of it."

If you tell me what you are looking for it might make things easier. As it is, you can find almost any equipment in the PHB.

I walk up to the counter to pay.
Grindal stands with his arms cross by the door, impatiently tapping his feet.

Trombin takes the que from Grindal and after grabbing a few things he scuttles over to the dwarf, ready to follow his lead.
Ragna waits for the group.

"Nice to meet you too good sir. Is it possible to take what I owe out of our payment? Thank you for the information, I'll head to Armstrong's soon."
“Hope this Armstrong is blessed with dwarf craftsman ship” Ragna says out loud.
"Ah, of course, I almost forgot. Old age, ye know. Anyways, I have ten pieces of gold for the each of you." He hands you each a small, heavy pouch.

"Thank you. Now, we need to bury our friend. Tannen, bring your new shovel and let's find a good quiet spot."
