Please seek the half-orc Vertheg at the Snapping Line for further details.
Even before approaching the inn, you can smell it. A strong fish smell emanates from the inn, even more so as you step in. But it bothers none of the patrons or staff, seeing as this coastal town has accepted it as their way of life. A halfling waiter hurries on by with a platter over her head, filled with fresh food and ale. Another halfling rushes by but takes note of you. He notices the flyer in your hand and points over to a table at one end of the inn. At the table you see a tall and lanky half-orc, awkward with his posture and fidgeting with his fine but stained clothes.
But before you introduce yourself, describe yourself.
Hello all, I'm pretty new to DDB but have heard of them for a while. So I'm going to test the waters with a one shot. This one shot shall be for level fours and for about 4-6 players. It shall be mostly combat heavy to see how it works out as a PbP and will include battle maps as to keep better track of players and monsters.
Feel free to describe your character's look, motives, or just simply their character sheet. For ability scores, you can do either point buy, standard, or roll here.
I shall leave it open for a couple of days before deciding on the final group. So to summarize,
To apply, please post your character's look, motives, and/or sheet
For ability scores, either point buy, standard, or roll on this thread.
Name: Niva'ele "Nivi" Farstrider (<-- link to DDB character sheet) Race: High Elf Class: Rogue Subclass: Arcane Trickster Abilities: Standard Array (I noticed that some people are rolling off thread or re-rolling 1s - if re-rolling 1s is an option, I'd prefer to roll.) Rolled Abilities: see post 22 below. Level 4 ASI/Feat: Elven Accuracy Background and Backstory: See (first) spoiler below.
This is actually a character I wrote a full backstory for and played in a Forgotten Realms campaign (Sunless Citadel) to level 3 before the DM's life got busy and he had to stop. I'll add a link to the original backstory I had written here, but then write up a shorter tl;dr version when I have time.
Shorter tl;dr version since the above is a 6 page short story: Substitute Greyhawk (Oerth) for Waterdeep (Forgotten Realms) in above story as needed. Nivi is not good enough for her haughty, virtuous high-elven noble family. Mainly not good enough morally, though she's really not a terrible person. She is loyal to her friends and sticks up for the helpless, but she has sociopathic tendencies when it comes to treats everyone else. On the run - kicked out of the criminal organization she had been in (Zhentarim in Waterdeep) for being too unpredictable, even for them. A blade without a hilt.
Female high elf with red hair and green eyes. Young for an elf - close to 100. Owl familiar on her shoulder. She walks into the Snapping Line and deftly dodges the halfling rushing by with the platter. Eyes expressionless. This little fish shit town seems like the perfect place to start over...
Background: custom - part Criminal/Spy, part Urban Bounty Hunter. Insight, Deception skills along with Orc and Draconic languages
Race: Fire Genasi (MotM) Class: Wizard (School of Evocation) Background: Fey Traveller
Backstory:
Wandered through a natural and temporary rift between the Elemental Plane of Fire and into the Material Plane. He has spent 7 months wandering around trying to find a way back. He knows he will figure it out eventually. Right now, he is a wandering, homeless, vagabond with very little coin. He has stumbled across a coastal town and saw a flyer for some work - hopefully something that will earn him a bit of gold.
OK after editing my post it changed my ability score rolls. They were 8 , 8, 11, 18, 12, 16. I suspected there was a chance of this (has happened before) so I actually took a screen shot. Note: time is in UK time.
-| Race & Class |- Kenku Warlock of the Great Old One
-| Brief Background |- Quill, like many kenku, sought flight. However, they knew that flight of the body was unattainable for one such as he, cursed by an unknown creator to forever wander, feathered yet flightless. Quill sought an entirely different type of flight: flight of the mind. They isolated themself from the world, and spent countless nights staring up at the stars, wondering at what they contained. They sought to understand the secrets of the world, and through that achieve the apotheosis of the mind they imagined was just around the bend. Well, stare long enough at the sun, and eventually its image will be burnt into your vision. Quill's interest in the secrets of the universe became an obsession, and eventually blossomed into full-blown monomania. They meditated deeper and deeper, seeking a truth that seemed just out of reach, gazing further and further past the stars... until they saw. They saw what lived beyond the stars. They saw the infinite hungering blackness, the shadow whose vast ebony hide stretched on forever, whose eyes were stars and whose word was madness. The mad daemon sultan at the center of reality, the fool child that had birthed everything and nothing and would one day devour all and none. Quill's vision stretched beyond this pitiful reality and delved deep into the infinite unknowledge of the gibbering idiot that was the universe. And they were touched. And they learned. And through this knowledge, an eldritch bond was formed, one of searing knowledge and blackest secrets, learned from the infinity that was nothing. Or at the very least, that's how Quill tells the story. They're a bit prone to hyperbole. Most people don't really take it seriously, they just kinda look at them and say 'Aw, what a lil guy, I bet they'd never make an eldritch pact with an elder being from the deepest reaches of space!'

Background: Naru is a bard who, as a child, was called a prodigy by the people in his village. Because of that and the fact he had no one to compare his talents with, he developed somewhat narcissistic tendencies, and left everything behind to "make it big in the big city". Needless to say his dream didn't materialize.
Now, Naru tries to survive by gambling and pickpocketing his way through life, and would jump on the occasion to join a group on a (monetary) rewarding adventure.
Najax was a crew of privateers. He spent a good time chasing pirates and kicking them into the sea.
One day, Najax and other privateers landed on an island which turned out to be the king of Lung Wangs ( sea turtle like dragon ). While others were running back to their ship, Najax never left the shell of the dragon king, buying time for his comrades. Impressed by his determination, the dragon king spared Najax's life and made a pact with him. The Lung Wang rends his power to the Dragonborn, in return Najax must gather treasures from all over the realm and devort them to the dragon king when he dies.

Davak is a crusty old Duergar who's spent countless years doing hard labor. He might be past his prime, but he still craves excitement and he's still a very capable fighter.
Seeing the halfling, a red dragon born standing a little over six and a half feet tall looks towards the table the waiter gestured towards. Giving a small, grateful nod and saying a quick thanks, the mountain of draconic muscle moves as carefully as he can, careful not to step on any feet or other appendages until he reaches the table. Moving awkwardly due to the size of the Greatsword strapped to his back, the quiver with four shafts poking out at his side, and the backpack he is currently holding with one arm through both straps he stops just short of the table and speaks in a deep, harsh, but polite voice;
"Good day, I assume you are Vertheg? My name isCraice Nathair, and I'm here about your salvage operation you put an ad out for? I believe I may have the experience you're looking for, and would like to offer my services. I am quite proficient with this blade, if I do say so myself. May I ask what the job actually is?"
Backstory : Barkas is a wanderer, a seeker of knowledge, with an interest in archaeology. He has stopped off at the coastal town, meaning to find his way to Chult eventually, but he needs to find a little work to keep his belly full and his coin purse full. He views this as mundane, but necessary. After a few beers in, he will gladly pull out his star map and go over with anyone who asks (and some who haven’t, who have the poor luck of sitting by him) the meaning of the stars, how he is being guided to Chult and his destiny. By 5 beers in, he goes over his best brewing recipes, his favorite animals and why, and his powers that have come to be known to him through the power of the stars. Viewed by those in his village as the village crackpot, he has left town and sought out vindication that he is being guided by the stars to his destiny. He’s a tough nut that won’t crack under pressure. He sits down and asks Vertheg about the nature of the work and why he wants salvagers. “I can turn into a bear and throw things around for ya! *belch*”
What motivates him: Shafir has been studying the land dwellers and has discovered that the most important possession that land dwellers vie for is coin. Now he seeks it as well. What prompted this journey. Well it had to do with the fact that his people were ousted from their ancestral home by Sahuagin who work for a land dweller. Now he figures that he can buy it back, but he must earn a fearful sum of coin. For a while he worked as a sailor and cherished that time, but working that way will take a lifetime to earn enough coin. So now he travelers to find faster means of earning coin.
Entering the Inn
Shafir found the fish smell comforting and approaches the lanky half-orc. He begins gesturing in the typical greeting among tritons, but stops himself. Shafir speaks telepathically to Vertheg. "I found your flyer and I am interested. I command some mystical arts and it will be at your disposal for the right price. Now tell me more of this salvage operation."
