Sor Spitz will disengage and run in the direction but not straight towards the student. Count will dismount and try to be 20' from the student.
He stores the sword and pulls out a healers kit and holds his hands up in front of him in the air. "Easy kid, we don't want to hurt ya. I'm not sure how you got roped into that lot but clearly fighting against us is a losing proposition. Your too young to throw your life away for a lost cause. Come with us, we will bind your wounds and let you join us in this... show of strength. You've got potential, we can see i. You heard my compadre call to spare you. Please don't throw you life away kid.

Having just seen you guys beat the crap out of twice your number of opponents, and being the only one left, and with a dirty 20 in persuasion, he can’t really turn the offer down. He accepts.

If I haven’t offended you, don’t worry. I’m sure I’ll get to you eventually.
No more fighting for you today! That’s a long rest for everyone.
Your loot from this fight is 225 xp each, two war picks, a suit of scale mail, 4 shields, a breastplate, a heavy crossbow and 15 bolts, a chain shirt, two scimitars, a set of chain mail, a mace, a longbow and 15 arrows, as well as 41 gold and 94 silver.
So what’s the consensus? Do one of you want to add the student on one of your sheets and start him taking sidekick levels but share xp with him, or do we want to just run him as he is?
Either way I can most likely manage him.

I should clarify. I can run him if no one else wants to.
If you want a shot at running him you certainly can.
Thanks, I appreciate the offer to run the NPC. As a fellow DM, I understand the amount of work it is to manage multiple monster's powers and resources. When a player comes to my table asking to have a cohort or follower, it's always a mixed bag of efforts.
My aim for this "sidekick" would be to have him use similar rules to the pet rules, except maybe we could give him some flaws and bonds that I would RP on his behalf, freeing up the DM to focus on the campaign and monsters.
As for experience and leveling, I think it can introduce scaling and power dynamics that are hard to deal with. For me, I'd be happy, keeping him in the wings with no experience gain and no level progression. We would be responsible to equip him and keep him healed and refreshed, between combats, but above this, several things need to be considered and keeping it simple is always best.
We can always change things in the future. My vote is to keep things simple and we can revisit shared XP later.
Plus, I want to give the other players priority to take on this sidekick, I was just the first person to respond. I'm happy to let Count take him under his wing, since they already have a bond.
The idea of the griffin sounds pretty cool. I’m not much interested in managing him. I already forget most of the time the spells, like Booming Blade for Nadir.
Those hit! The newt is nearly down.
Hits!
Hits and injures it a bit.
Done.

The student screams in pain and shoots a blast at Yoku, hitting with a 21 for 6 damage.
The fist wacks at Count and misses wildly. Y’all are up!

Toll the Dead @ the newt. Shouldn’t break the concentration on Guidance.
DC 15 Wis Save or 8 necrotic damage.
Rawrer distracts.

(Forgot to say Count took the newt down. I’m switch it to the fist)

The fist’s save is a 10 so he takes the damage.
Neither hits.
With that the fist is skewered and drops dead!

I'm fascinated to try to have a sidekick. I would give him the amulet and name him 2
1. Carl
2. Schneider
3. Godwin
4. Vargus
5. Wilhelm
6. Ben

... just to hear him scream!

I'm perfectly fine with the proposed. With 33hp, I think that's enough for base stats to not need to give experience.
We could get Ben some scrols if we wanted him to have a few more spell options.
We could teach him to ride a griffin to keep him out of harms way!
Right for sure.
Right, so whose sheet are we putting him on?
Also, here’s the loot pile. Do you guys want anything, and does yoku want to make any scrolls? I’ll sell whatever you don’t want.
