Breldo nods. "Good. I'm at your command if you need my services. Not a sailor, not much of a swimmer, but handy if there's the wrong kind of trouble. I can spot it and take it out before we get close."
He pats his crossbow.

Khond claps once, "Good, good! Stay clear enough of the ship that it won't send you under if it fully tips, so long as you can provide a place those who go overboard can find safety it's enough. Even just a handful of people is enough to make a difference. Anyone who has a boat, or knows someone who has one, should get it out there to help even one more person. One life saved is enough to make a hero."
With that said, Khond looks for the nearest moored ship and hurries in its direction to see if he can convince them to mobilise as well.

"Yes, Slick Rick can do this for you. How much quick money and what is the name of your boat and your contact? I say hello, it is Zed that sent me? Do you have a boat or should one be borrowed?"
SIghing in Frustration, Tuck concedes defeat - at least here. To Gustaf, he asks, "Is there any way I might locate this "Pallin" character? I would really like to look at that tome, and there's no telling when - if ever - he might return it to this fine establishment."

If your boyfriend asks you to join his game, he really likes you ... and also, he needs a healer.
Gustaf shrugs, for a few moments dejectedly looking through a few more tomes. None seem to satisfy him quite as much as the memory of that particular tome.
"I'll ask around to see if I can figure out where he lives, yes... Was only a few days ago he came to get it. Might not be for a while yet though, unless the head librarian knows, maybe should go ask him first- Not sure if you'd want to stick around and search more books in that time, or grab some fresh air. In that book at least I remember seeing some maps drawn... Exactly the thing you need, right?"
Nuria almost stops in her tracks at the sight of the centaur. However, she pushes on, making her way as close to the docks as possible while still making sure Tristan is close behind her. She looks around frantically trying to figure out how to help in this situation.
Perception: 9
(She's looking for boats. Fishing boats or lifeboats.)
Tuck accepts Gustaf's explanation as best he can - it's not the first time, after all that a lead has grown cold. "I'd appreciate you looking into it; I'll stop back in a few days, see if you have had any luck tracking him down; if it proves to lead me somewhere, perhaps even a reward could be considered. Meanwhile, I guess I'll take your suggestion of getting some fresh air; as much as I love it in here, my feet are telling me it's time to move along. Perhaps I'll find something exciting worth chasing after out in the city. Thanks for your efforts!"
With that, unless Gustaf has any further suggestions, Tuck will take his leave of him, and the library for now, and hit the pavement, looking and listening for anything that captures his attention. Though I've a few coins in my poicket to tide me over for a bit, I'll need to find something renumerative. Perhaps the local adventurer's guild might have need, or scuttlebut at the docks might point towards something of interest - sailors are always taking with a bit of shore leave and liquor; who knows? He thinks to himself as he takes in the sights and sounds on the city.
At first, the guards give a hurried shake of their heads as Breldo offers his "help".
"Oh, I'm sure that won't be necessary," one starts, before another one quickly chimes in. "What if they're pirates?"
The guards pause again, looking suddenly more open again to the prospect of him joining in, when a gruff voice from behind Breldo speaks up.
"What are you all loitering about?"
Turning, Breldo would find himself being loomed over by a tall figure, although it becomes evident that the brass dragonborn is not looking to intimidate him as much as the group of guards. He sports a similar uniform to that of the guards, perhaps a bit more padded and a badge that denotes the rank of captain. But one doesn't need any of those things to recognize the sheer authority his figure demands, especially to a trained eye such as Breldo. His posture, the few scars, the subtle hints of how he'd be ready to grasp the sword on his hilt at a moment's notice, the fact a dragonborn was allowed the position of captain in a predominantly human city- This man was a warrior.
And he shared an expression that he was very familiar with. Sheer, utter, disappointment.
"You fear a dressing down that much you can't even do the obvious? Get in line!"
The guards give a quick "Yes sir!" as they scurry. The halfling notes that the captain did bring more people with him; what must be a corporal of some kind, a few more guards, the missing harbormaster... And trailing in the back someone dressed in silken colorful cloth, the lanky figure holding his arms on his back, a finely trimmed beard seeming to accentuate a constant, relaxed smile. He very much seems to just be observing, however.
"I've heard report that there is a chance we may be dealing with a transport ship, which is why I took a bit longer. We'll be commandeering a medium vessel to try and grab everyone if so. But I want you," he continues, now gesturing toward the ragtag group of guards. "To grab a rowboat in pairs and sail out there yourself. You know, just in case,"
The guards seem dejected to those words, as now the captain finally gives Breldo some warranted attention.
"Did I hear you offer assistance, outsider?"
---
Khond's inspiration is enough to start whipping some people into shape, the fisherman from before already having grabbed a mate of his and began to sail out. Soon after already heading out to a keelboat, the fishermen soon moved as well, as they begin to quickly offload some supplies to make room and depart. Admittedly, a part of it may be that it seems someone with proper authority has finally arrived, and it's looking like they might be taking over for a while to deal with the crisis- So there could be some potential money in borrowing out their boat in the first place...
---
"Oh yes, yes, I was getting to that," Zed assures Rick. "For just getting there, let's say I give you five silver. Not too bad, right? Five silver for a few hours work of doing almost nothing, at the very worst. You'll just be the good natured outsider, wanting to help out some poor people! No one is going to bat an eye, I'm sure. It's just that the sad fact is that if it's me or any of my buddies doing it, they might doubt our pure intentions of just wanting to help, you understand?"
"But, here is the important part. If this is our ship with our friend on it, and you can bring him back, safe and whole," he says, putting a strange emphasis on the 'whole', I'll pay you ten times that. Five gold. Lots of people don't see that kind of money in a month. What do you think?"
"Now, I admit, I don't know exactly which ship our friend would have taken. I can tell you it would have been the first available ship hailing from port Zomaru, however. Fella's name is Marrut, tiefling fellow, horns curl back slightly. Shouldn't be too hard to find him."
"You might need to grab a boat somewhere I suppose... No doubt the guards are already planning something. But if you act the role of the good, responsible, concerned citizen, I'm sure all will be fine!"
---
Tristan and Nuria head toward the docks proper, just as it seems like some guards are beginning to take actual action themselves, whipped into shape by a brass, somewhat imposing looking dragonborn. Nuria at first spots so many ships that she isn't even sure which one she could reasonably grab, but it seems like the guards at least are getting in smaller rowing boats with the intent of figuring out who they actually belong to later. That centaur they saw meanwhile, seems to be trying to sway a more respectable vessel to head out toward the disaster site as well.
---
Tuck accepts Gustaf's explanation, and apology, the library worker giving a big smile at those words. He bids Tuck a goodbye, as the halfling decides to go stretch his legs and get some fresh air, while Gustaf will hopefully get results in due time. He does remember where the adventurer's guild is, which could hopefully have a job for an explorer such as himself at present. Although the first thing that would probably be note was the crowd that has gathered by the docks- And if he pays proper attention, a decent distance away in the ocean he can see the reason why, a damaged ship apparently stranded out there...
Good to know that incompetence doesn't run all the way up...
He snaps off a reasonable salute towards the Captain, but he's a touch out of practice.
"Yes sir, Captain. Advance Scout Breldo Bramblepelt. Well, former Advance Scout. Marksman, and a woodsman more than a waterdog, but I'm yours to command if you've a use for my skills."

It's hard to say, but Breldo can swear he sees the dragonborn's muzzle curl up slightly into a big smile as he does his introduction.
"A former soldier as well? At ease, my good man. I'm not your commander, so I've no authority over you," he quickly nods.
"I am captain Gilmagesh from Mezzra city guard, and former major in the king's army. This is supposed to be my retirement, but reigning in these fools is sometimes more stressful, I swear," he starts, glancing down again, and for a moment it looks like he'd want to ask far more questions, if only what company he served under in the past. Mercifully, before he gets to it, he realizes he has a job to do.
"Regardless, I've no authority over you, so you are free to do as you please. But I would appreciate the assistance of someone I can put my faith in- And then perhaps after I can see you properly compensated for your effort as well,"
It might be only at this point that Breldo notices captain Gilgamesh has already been slowly moving toward one of the larger vessels, and his feet have unconsciously been moving along.

The few fishermen steering the boat seem a bit confused about Khond actually seeming to plan to head out to the ship as well, sharing a confused glance among each other for a moment as they worry about the logistics of a centaur boarding a ship... In the end, they don't worry too much about it - And seeing that at least a few more guards are ready to potentially offer assistance, get ready to set sail toward the ship.

Zed briefly squints, looking upon Slick for a good long moment... Then let's out a quick laugh. A heavy pat given on the Tabaxi's back
"Hah! You're lucky I like you, Slick. Alright, that'll be more than anyone could ever complain about," he says, now holding up a single, shiny golden coin. The tabaxi isn't sure where he pulled it from, but he shoves it within his furred palm before anyone else notices it.
"I'll eagerly await to hear what you find there."
With that and a victorious grin does Zed let go, giving a little exaggerated wave as the Tabaxi bounds off. A decent distance toward the West, he can notice how some ships have apparently set out toward the wreck. There are also rowboats closer by, and a smaller fishing ship or two, although no one seems to have been inclined to use any of them just yet...
(I'm meaning to have Khond head for a large ship, see if he can get them moving too. Small ones he's just going to take up space for evacuation.))
