Bart puts an arm around Brother Tobias and will escort/pull him along. "Gained access to his residence? Accounting discrepancy? That needs attention first. This is incredibly serious and may lead to essential facts we need. Show me to his residence, immediately."
He seems to be telling the truth and being sincere.
He gladly leads Bart and Barbar around the back of the temple to a small house attached to the back of the temple.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Cariadne checks the outside of the temple for anything that might indicate a scuffle. perception20 (or +3 instead of +5 if it's an investigation roll instead)
Brother Tobias is leading Bart and Barbar behind the temple to a small house attached to the back of it. He seems to hesitate when you separate from your companions but he is easily distracted. He brings you into a moderately sized main room, though furnished for a halfling it is sized for larger beings so it has a kind of tiny grandeur. He leads you over to a desk with several open books upon it. Aside from the desk there is a cozy kitchen and table, some couches, chairs, and bookcases by the fireplace, and a closed door, you'd wager to a sleeping chamber, and a smaller door near the kitchen area.
"These books are the two sets of records I found, one matching what he was sending to us, the other indicates embezzlement for some nefarious purpose. I've been avoiding going over this place with a fine tooth comb as I want to respect privacy, I'm growing impatient."
Cariadne: You don't see anything particularly unusual, save for a lot of ruts and footprints near the main doors, indicating some physical exertion there, although the discarded prybar makes you think it wasn't a fight.

In a way it seems like he's ignoring Brother Tobias when Barbär sees the different sized furniture and takes a load off on on of the simple chairs. "Aaaaagghh. Nice to sit somewhere my size, or at least size appropriate! Now. Where were we?---- Ah yes. First lets speak on who owns this structure and or lands?" his sound shifts to a more interrogative tone, with furrowed brow. "As I'm sure you are well versed in legal matters, Sir, is it you that owns this place of worship? You may be aware that there are missing persons from this area, and you chose to enter a place that could be magically surveyed and the situation uncovered? Mind you, I cast no blame, as someone who cares. However Bart may be a little more displeased by the anwsers." Barbär gives a weird wicked smirk to Bart
Cariadne: The door is locked with a thick ornate chain and pad lock and bar keeping the door from opening pretty securely. I'm assuming you have the key the Undermayor gave the party, though right?
Bart: You can see some very obvious and embezzlement, more detail if you've ever run a business enterprise. You also notice the forgery work to match the handwriting is the highest quality, indicating a great level of skill went into making the crooked books look like the same hand as the originals.
Barbar: "The builiding is owned by the town with a lease to the local church organization. One of the reasons I was here to renegotiate the lease so it was controlled by the Church of Anwyn more directly. As there is no present priest, it's my right to be here, no matter what you are insinuating."

"I mean nothing that any other outsider wouldn't also think, however that seems to be a fair answer. Does the church here have any disputes with any one? Perhaps someone that wants this land, someone that isn't keen on Anwyn?" He swivels around to Bart and the book, "Any thing useful?"
" That may be, but as the situation is compounded, I'd like to hear any information on your missing colleague. Did he have any place he enjoyed being other than here?"
Bart doesn't need to think much on it to recognize that this priest is not the usual sort of priest, nor dressed or behaving as one would expect. Some questions about the local priest to those who knew him are in order, but Bart can put two and two together to recognize that the step from burglar priest to forger priest is not a big step, especially if he came prepared.
Bart proceeds to try to drag this out for those at the temple by having Brother Tobias walk him through the exact events of his investigation of the house, then checking for hidden compartments etc for "the stolen tithes", maybe a personal journal to find out his habits, since he's still missing.

(She has the key but was wanting to know whether someone had broken in and left the door open/unlocked.)
"Hmm, pretty," Cariadne mutters as she unlocks the lock with the key from the Undermayor. If the key works, she pushes the door open and peers inside. perception18
Marigold has been, for the time being, keeping an eye out on the surroundings while Cariadne handled the door. Trying to detect whether or not they're being watched in this endeavor--it seems unlikely a man as ornately dressed as the one they saw would travel alone.
