I'm a little perplexed. I thought you can't hide in bright light? My assumption was if the sphere's bright light overlapped any space Arnel was in, he'd no longer be hidden.
There are plenty of objects to hide behind, such as the desks, the stair railings, the statues at the bottom of the stairs, so can considered "Heavily Obscured"... or he might have moved behind you and is making faces at you while your backs are turned... But ones he starts moving he needs avoid moving into unobstructed view in the lighted area (dim of bright).
All Arnel needs to do is get away if what he said is true... he doesn't need to do anything to you, since you're going to be blamed for this fiasco ANYWAYS. And there is a bat outside screaming it's head off, attracting attention.
You both realize all Arnel has to do is wait until people come (who have been alerted through Guiles Familiar creating a ruckus)) while hidden until you are discovered here, the very place where you've been set up to be blamed for the missing slaves! Arnel is probably planning to slip out during the confusion when everyone gets here. You probably have about a minute (10 or so rounds) before the crowd has gathered and enters the building. Even if you do manage to kill or capture Arnel, you probably just be accused of working with him and that your group and he had a falling out after the slaves escaped.
Well....I suppose I could modify my action if based on the insight roll we feel that Arnel is on the level and we had only one option. Although if the crowd is going to get here in 10 minutes is there a way to salvage this? Arnels looking for a distraction. I suppose this is as good as any then unless it's too soon to be an effective distraction to save our bacon. I'll modify my post to reflect a change of tactics.

10 rounds or so, not 10 minutes... about a minute. Apparently, they were waiting for a signal to gather up the guards that were bribed to stay away from that area.
Good news: if those folks disguised as us get up to anything, Bridgette has plenty of witnesses to her actual whereabouts at the time of the incident lol

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Aw crap... oh well, guess we'll just have to murderize all of them as soon as Bridgette figures out what's going on lol. Or, you know, ask our Paladin to cast Zone of Truth on them when our boss is trying to make sense of this mess. Of course, maybe Bridgette was just so good that all of the lizards switch allegiances to simp lol
Correct... and he's unlikely to give it up. Though you can scheme to "liberate" it from him... either steal it or have him "disappear"
Cats go Moo!
LOL! I guess it's battle time!

Oh, I was confused. Thank you for the clarification, I thought it was an item we looted.
sorry, feel like Arnel was going to screw us one way or the other.

I totally agree
No worries here. Aegnor was kind of playing along with Arnel to put him a little off guard until we decided our plan.

is Aegnor attuned to the rod of pact +1?

Aegnor had time to attune the rod when he was feeding and walking Shadow.
Cats go Moo!
Aegnor would have restored a 2nd level spell slot right away once attuned.
If that's not allowed, he'll work it into his next action if he thinks he'll need it.
