With the indications of the two goblins, the human and the gnome are able to secure the boat, where they can see the uncounscious, or even dead, man.
Everyone can hear a rustle in the ferns behind them, to the left of the camp and in the same directon from where the boat came, upriver. It seems that there is someone coming in their way.
Before they can say or do anything else, the vegetation opens to reveal the faces of two reptilian creatures. They walk in two legs, wear rags and hold spears. Those creatures reeks and the stench makes all of them want to throw up.
The creatures seem to be surprised to see the four of them but with a hiss they charge forward!
Stoney Tark calls out (in Common): "Hold up there, tall scaly and smelly! If you stay downwind of us, you can put on some perfumes while we can talk this out, instead of someone getting hurt."
Casts Create Bonfire in front of the path of the two reptile beings. Hopefully that will get them to slow down. Or if they decide to run around it and continue their approach, it would show their hostile intent.

Shadowheart sighs at the reptilian creatures. He places a hand over his chest and mutters "Praesidium." Over his form there is a wave of shadow - like silhouettes over his clothes and skin - for just a moment. His protection in place, a spell he knows so well his first casting of it requires very little effort.
Shadowheart casts Mage Armor on himself. For next 8 hours, his AC is 17.
"Something tells me," he says aloud to Tark, "they are not going to be friendly."
Grrzark readies an action. If either creature comes within melee range without indicating friendly intent, he will attack. He steps between the others and the reptilians, his axe at in his hands.
Phodoxia watches, intrigued, as the figures from the fire run to pull the boat ashore. A human, and a gnome. Well, they haven't complained yet about the pair of goblins, or tried to kill them, or tried to capture them. That's good news.
But she hardly has time to think about it as two hostile figures come barreling from the bushes. Phodoxia stands back with a gasp as another bonfire roars to life, illuminating a pair of very ugly snakemen of sorts. Eeuw! Reptiles ought to be small and hide under rocks! For a minute she starts to twist her fingers in the air, one ear cocked as if listening to the enticing voices in some far-off forest in her memory. Then she calls out sweetly, "Don't be in such a hurry, friends! We've much more to share alive than dead."
If the reptilians are sufficiently eased from their hostility for the spell to work, Phodoxia casts Friends to roll Persuasion with advantage. Rolled on the character sheet: 21 Without advantage (in case the spell fails): 14

The other one, making his comrade words true throws his spear to the gnome, but the spear goes wide and misses Tark, it hisses and moves towards him with obvious bad intentions.
Grrzark has never known a Troglodyte to pass up a Goblin meal, so when the one passes him to reach Tark, he rages. His eyes bulge, his veins bulge, he ears turn red. He gives a loud battle cry. He then takes a swing at the Troglodyte, two-handed, with his battle-axe. He connects and puts his rage into the blow.
Tark suspects that the situation is already out of hand, but he holds back to see if Phodoxia (wait... who is that?) is able to calm the situation.
Hold action: if either of the trogs make another attack action, target that one with a Create Bonfire . (DEX 14 save or take 1d8 fire damage, with more damage if it doesn't move away from that 5' square)

Shadowheart strides to the uninjured reptile-person as a flicker of shadow dances on his right hand. He mutters "Mortem infero." He tries to touch the creature but it manages to evade. The power expended, his hand returns to normal having caused no effect. "Well," he sighs facing the enemy, "shit."
The troglodyte, still surprised than his alleged ally attack him does not have time to try to block the axe of the goblin, that caughts him in the chest and the reptile creature falls to the ground, dead.
Phodoxia yelps in surprise as the troglodyte falls in a spray of blood under Grrzark's axe. But she quickly recovers and cheers on her companion as if she'd never tried to make friends with the poor brutes. "That's right, you show him, Zark! They'll never mess with no Mawtooth again!"
The next phrase out of her mouth seems oddly inspired by the words she's just heard from the human on the other side of the bonfire. "Lux unicornum!" She flicks a hand sideways like she's waving out a candle flame, but the white, radiant flame edged with orange and gold leaps up underneath the second troglodyte instead.
Reacting with the reflexes of a predator, the reptilian creature jumps away from the burst of flame that erupts nearby him. Hissing at the treacherous goblin he throws his spear towards Phodoxia but doesn’t really puts on it as the weapon flies away. He turns his back and runs towards the forest from the direction they came from, upstream the river.
Tark is able to give the troglodyte the "hot-foot" from a Bonfire immediately after it threw a spear at Phodoxia, but the creature moves swiftly away. The gnome raises a fist angrily, but does not pursue. Speaking out loud (in case the other 3 nearby are listening): "Hopefully the scaly stinker will think twice about attacking strangers, and stay away. Maybe we can get better answers from the unconscious guy." Tark hesitates when he realizes it is difficult to talk to a sleeping guy. He then heads to the boat, trying to get it moored better so it doesn't float away.

Shadowheart watches the reptile run away. The merciful thing is allow it. He used to be merciful. He's not anymore. It knows we're here, we're too tired and it is too late to move camp. He thinks to himself in the briefest seconds. We killed its ally. It could leave, get others, wait for us to sleep or be distracted and strike again when we're vulnerable. No. It must not be.
"Manus mortis!" He cries as a trail of blackness streaks from an outstretched hand to the fleeing lizard and forms into a skeletal hand. This hand grabs onto the creature's head as the black oozes into its skin. And then just like that, the hand is gone and the lizard drops dead.
"Well, that's that. How's the boatman doing?" He turns to the rest. "Give us a hand would you, please?" he asks the goblins. "There'll be some fish in it for you."
"Yipe!" Phodoxia throws herself clear of the hurtled spear, and watches elated as the reptilian flees through the brush. "Yeah, you better run, you goblin snacker!" she shouts after it, in Goblin. A few seconds later, a black hand grabs it by the head and throws it down to the ground, and now it's dead, too.
Phodoxia allows herself a split second of a relieved smile, and then quickly turns to assess their remaining companions in the fading light of the magical fires. A human, and a gnome, rushing to the boat. Oh, well, of course, that's a human too, they want to help him. We were just hoping that--and her ears perk up suddenly as she hears the word 'fish'. Immediately her stomach growls in anticipation. FISH!!!!!
"Right on it!" she says, switching to Common, and runs to help with the boat. She's uselessly spindly, but helpfully, or unhelpfully, climbs up onto the side of the boat itself to check out the unconscious human. It might be really easy to just bring him back to life, she thinks. Even as the thought crosses her mind, a soft glow of light begins to ripple across the man's still form.
Using 1d6 (rolled 2) of Healing Light on the unconscious man in the boat, healing him for 2 HP.
Medicine to see if she can tell what happened to him: 4
The rest of the party can only see the back of Tark, who took a few steps towards the boat with the wounded man. He hasn’t said anything, but the rest of you can see that his body is visibly shaking.
Phodoxia brings up a soft light around the boat, but Tark has grabbed her shoulder to hold her back from climbing the side of the boat.

Shadowheart sees Tark shaking. Is he cold? Was it the adrenaline leaving him? Something else? He hadn't known Tark long enough to really discern all his behaviours. With a cautious stride, Shadowheart nears Tark, seeing him hold one of the goblins from getting too close to the boat. He comes up to Tark's side, knees down to meet him face to face. "What's wrong?"
Grrzarkends his rage and then spits on the body of the dead Trogdolyte. "That's for uncle Kruk, you stinkpot!" Then, at the mention of fish, he looks around. If people are going to offer him fish for it, he'll help out more often. He heads over toward the boat to see what he can do to earn some fish.
Shadowheart's question seems to snap Tark out of wherever his mind went. Tark relaxes his hand on Phodoxia's shoulder, giving it a slight pat. With a slight (unconvincing) smile, he says through clenched teeth: "Everyone act normally. Like you don't see a big, scaly, toothy, something-not-a-crocodile in the water, creeping up to that boat slowly, thinking we haven't seen it yet."
