Mortimer leaned over to Talindra, whispering softly, "Do you know if a dragon turtle is more dangerous than whatever kind of dragon Captain Frostbutt's booty call is? ...And did we even get her name?"
"Splendid!" Fargrim claps Raff on the shoulder. "Our last interpreter decided he liked the feeling of land under his feet a little too much and left - I would've had Therliann do it but she'd probably just have charged more."
Fenrir let out a sigh that sounded a bit like a growl of frustration. Why worry about dwarves who act like dwarves? There were other things to consider, he knew. Fenrir wasn't exactly the best at planning ahead, but at least he knew how to start. He almost always traveled in packs, so... time to start another one.
Casting his eyes around, Fenrir considered his options. The crew seemed to enjoy their lives at sea, more or less. Even the other Goliath seemed at home on this boat. And they were already part of the captain's gang, and likely loyal to him. Fenrir's fellow passengers seemed the only real options.
Two of them anyway. His eyes landed on Mortimer and Talindra. Casting a suspicious glance around, Fenrir moved toward them. It was time to get friendly with others. Friendly-ish, anyway..

Talindra was somewhat startled by Mortimer talking to her. She'd only been playing bystander to the whole affair today not really expecting she'd be of much use. Now she searched her memory for what she'd read about dragon-turtles. "Anything with dragon in the name is going to be dangerous right off. And no I didn't get a name from the other dragon."
((Can I do a history check for what she's read on dragon-turtles? 23 otherwise here's a nature: 4))
You actually know a fair bit about dragon turtles, although not as much as you'd like. They share more traditional dragons' urge to create a hoard, but they are generally enormous in size and utilize a steam breath weapon rather than fire, lightning, acid, or ice. Beyond that they use their bulk (and sizable mouth) to inflict crushing damage on ships and other things that displease them. You also know that you can generally bribe your way past one - which is probably what Fargrim was talking about earlier.
Talindra raised a finger to pause anything Mortimer might have been about to say in the pause she left as she tried to remember. "More on dragon turtles, they're huge and very capable of crushing ships. They breathe steam which is more effective I'm sure than it sounds. But they hoard just like any other dragon and you can bribe them to let you go. Presumably unless you've really pissed them off."
While the rest of you are chatting about dragon turtles, Selu has continued to alternate between looking terrified and vaguely ill. One of the crewmembers eventually takes him by the hand and leads him below decks.
Fargrim has continued to talk to Raff during this time, outlining the nuances of the deal. "So normally, we try not to lie to the big fellow - this time around we've got a bit more cargo than usual, which I swear the big bastard can smell. Your job is to say something suitably polite and tell him how much our offering is worth - we've got about 500 gold set aside. If ye don't booch it, then we'll get through with no problems."

Talindra and Mortimer are mid-conversation as Fenrir approached. He stands just a bit away from them - shorter people tended to appreciate that - but still clearly joining them. Like Mortimer, Fenrir still has an eye on the captain's conversation, mostly out of habit. He also noticed a few of the crew disappearing below deck instead of tending to the sails and whatnot. Was there some other job down below? He could follow... but he'd rather not go below. Besides, it was more important now to make plans, and these two were by far the ones that Fenrir would prefer to travel with.
His attention is split, but Fenrir tries to keep an eye on everything.
(( Listening to the captain - Perception: 10. Trying to figure out why some crew went below deck - Insight: 15. Not sure how him paying attention to three things at once affects that though :3 ))
Mortimer nods to Fenrir, still distracted by his conversation with Talindra and trying to catch what the captain and Raff are discussing. "Hi mister Altogrimya."
Fargrim grins almost as wide. "Glad to hear it! Because if Aremag thinks you're trying to pull one over on him, he'll definitely kill us all."
Mortimer and Fenrir:
You hear pretty much everything. I mean, you might miss a few of the details, but you understand the following things to be 100% true:
1. The dragon turtle is not an unusual thing - captain and crew have clearly dealt with it before
2. The bronze dragon's name is Therliann, for whatever good that does you
3. Raff also knew about the dragon turtle, and is apparently going to conduct a negotiation of sorts with it. Which, given Raff's performance "helping out" so far is maybe not the most reassuring thing?
"Atolgrymlyja" Fenrir mutters, not bothering to correct Mortimer for using his Clan name, as he doesn't actually want to be called 'Chainbound' anyway. 'Big Guy' wasn't much of an impressive nickname either, but it had seemed to become standard among passenger and crew during the voyage.
He sighs. "Captain warn any of you about the dragon population on this route?" he grumbles as a greeting. Then he turns to Talindra and casually volunteers her. "You speak Draconic, right? Seems they want that... Tortle to negotiate, but if it comes to that, I'd rather he didn't." Fenrir pauses for a moment, anticipating some resistance. "You seem to know enough about it," he adds as encouragement, in reference to the three sentences of basic information she'd provided.
Talindra eyed the goliath and settled on a nod in greeting. She wasn't picking a name to mispronounce just yet. "Wait they want who to do what? This seems like a bad idea." Her face scrunched up as she mulled it over. It was a job she didn't particularly want to volunteer for but she also really didn't want to get smashed. She sighed as Mortimer chimed in with encouragement. "Talindra first of all. You are not good with names." She then moved quickly to where the tortle and the captain were talking.
"Excuse me sirs, but this seems like a horrible idea. No offense meant you understand Tortle, it's just you do not seem to be capable of lying. Admirable trait really. I however am quite ...persuasive when it comes down to it and happen to speak Draconic."
"Oh, this should be hilarious." Enri gathered up his gear, drawing his pack tight. "I'm simply amazed that getting shaken down by a dragon turtle wasn't on the itinerary for this trip." The human hopped up from his seat, happily joining the rest of the group. "So...Acromegaly, what's the play here? Can you use your gargantuan size to cow the big turtle to submission? Are we counting on...uh...Morty's god to do the heavy lifting? I'm all ears, really. Don't want to lose my stuff today."
If Mortimer had been drinking something, he would have done a spit-take at Enri's suggestion that his god do the heavy lifting. "Kelemvor is the god of the dead, mister Endy." Morty choked out the words between laughter. "That's like asking the dragon to kill us all to he can sort us out!"

Fenrir grits his teeth. He wanted to form a group, but not with Enri, and definitely not with Raff.
Ignoring the fighter clearly mucking up his name on purpose, Fenrir doesn't even bother to glance at him. "The captain," Fenrir says with a sneer, "seems to think it won't be a problem." Meanwhile, Fenrir doesn't need a DM to tell him he's not persuaded by Raff. "If it does become a problem, we can follow their plan - with the half-elf playing negotiator." He turns and glares at Raff, drawing himself up. "You should absolutely not."
(( Intimidation: 21 Hell yeah, Fen's scary as ****! ))
(( I was still kinda hoping he'd fail though XD ))
Mortimer leaned over to Talindra, whispering softly, "Do you know if a dragon turtle is more dangerous than whatever kind of dragon Captain Frostbutt's booty call is? ...And did we even get her name?"
Raff nods to Fargrim. "I know Aquan; that ought to be enough."
"Splendid!" Fargrim claps Raff on the shoulder. "Our last interpreter decided he liked the feeling of land under his feet a little too much and left - I would've had Therliann do it but she'd probably just have charged more."

((Did Morty overhear that? Perception: 14))
If a Tortle mouth could smile any wider, Raff's would.
"That sounds like a great plan! A very achievable goal! I can definitely do this thing you ask of me."

"Not to worry, friends, not to worry! I'm very persuasive." He wiggles his eyebrows, which Tortles absolutely do not have.
Persuasion: 2
