Physical Appearance: Ari is only 24 years old, but she looks much older. She has dark circles beneath her eyes, withered skin, and strands of gray hair. Ari has her tome of spells with her at all times, she usually keeps it in a small pouch hanging from her side. She wears a tattered robe with all sorts of odd items ranging from lizard legs to frog heads.
Backstory: Ari has no memory of who her parents where or what they where like, but she guesses they must have pretty awful since they sold their own daughter into slavery.
As a child; Ari had one master after another, her masters found her to be rebellious and strong-willed so she never had one master for very long. Everything changed when she found the tome. Ari was about twelve years old at the time; she was sleeping on the floor of her current master's attic. Her current master was a nobleman who had a large and spacious house, but of course he couldn't afford to spare a bedroom for a slave. When Ari was about to fall asleep when she saw an old and dusty book lying on the floor of the attic. Something about the book grabbed Ari's attention. She picked up the book and found all sorts of strange secrets and forbidden magic hiding inside of the tome. At first the tome seemed insane and confusing to Ari; but the more she read, the more she understood. Ari had never been completely sane, but reading that book changed her in ways that could never be reversed or undone. Ari didn't sleep at all the night; she spent the entire night reading the book and gathering whatever information she could from it. Her master found her book in the morning and burned it. But she wouldn't lose the magical secrets the tome contained so easily.
From that point on; Ari gathered sheets of paper wherever she could and wrote out what she could remember from the tome, she also gathered the items she would need to cast the spells she discovered and hid them form her masters. As she wrote it, she heard a voice begin to call out to her, promising arcane power and freedom from slavery. After three years Ari had assembled a smaller version of the tome that had changed her life. She used her newfound abilities to kill her current masters and gain freedom. After that; the voice in Ari's head grew stronger and she continued to add to her tome.
After years of gathering spells for her tome; Ari heard about the Harpells and their vast stores of magical knowledge. The voice told her to head for Longsaddle and search for the Harpells and add their magical knowledge to her tome. Ari obeyed the voice and headed to Longsaddle in search of magical knowledge.
Personality: I am sympathetic to those who are going through what I did. I am suspicious of everyone, anyone could betray me.
Bond: I am following the commands of a voice inside my head, and the voice is telling me to gain more magical knowledge to add to my tome.
Flaw: I am obsessed with gaining more magical knowledge and will get it at any cost.
RP Moment: Ari sits alone in the Longsaddle Inn, drinking a small mug of ale. She eyes everyone else in the inn suspiciously. She looks to the patrons seated in the inn, but doesn't see any of the Harpells. Ari hears the voice in her head again; encouraging her to leave the inn and look for the Harpells elsewhere. Ari finishes her ale and prepares to leave the inn. The Harpells may be harder to find than Ari had thought, but she had never been one to give up easily.
I'm aware that the Warlock's pact boon isn't available until level 3, but I was wondering if Ari could have the tome, but not be able to actually the Pact of the Tome ability until she reaches level 3, since discovering the tome and attempting to recreate it is a big part of Ari's backstory. Could that be okay?
Your proposal for Ari's Tome works for me! Let's her have the Tome from the start - and of course get Pact of Tome at level 3.
Just two small requests:
1) Next time, keep in mind that if you edit your post without quoting the rolls, you have a high chance (practically 100%) that the dice roller would roll them again and give you the "This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results" warning. So don't edit your original post, if you have rolls in it - either make a new post, if you have more info to add, or quote it, if you really need to do corrections in it. Most of the times, I simply keep the rolls in a first post, then add all other info in other posts, without rolls, so I'm safe to edit them.
2) In the RP moment you presented, Ari didn't hear about the quest. That's not ok - the RP moment needs instead to be about that - how Ari reacts to the news and why she's interested (and it's important that she is...since she's supposed to take part in the quest). I know, she is interested in the magical knowledge of the Harpells - and that's great. But we also need a motivation for her to help Martha (the motivation could also be simply that, since Martha is a member of a powerful family, the Sharnshields, maybe helping her will help Ari connect with the Harpells - or whatever you can think of - but the key point is, we need a reason to help Martha). So, if you can make a new RP post in line with the above, it would be great.
I apologize, here's the revised version.
RP Moment (Revised)- Ari sat and drank from a small flagon of ale in the corner of the Night Cloak Inn. She could hear the sounds of chatter and music around her. She looks around the inn; searching for one of the Harpells. The voice had described each member of the family to Ari, but Ari didn't see any of them. Disappointed; Ari took another sip from her mug of ale, the warmth of the drink comforted her. That's when Ari heard a quiet whisper directly behind her.
"You're Ari right? I heard you came here looking for the Harpells, I might be able to help with that." Ari turned to face the source of the whisper. She recognized the woman instantly; she was Martha Sharnshield, a well known figure in Longsaddle. Martha was known for being a powerful figure in Longsaddle, with connections to even more powerful figures. "How do you know my name?" Ari demanded. "Or why I'm here?" Martha seemed amused by Ari's reaction; Ari distrusted most people, but she had an especially bad feeling about this woman. "I have my ways, but how I know isn't important." Martha paused, waiting for Ari to respond. Ari became even more irritated, who did she think she was? Ari decided to get straight to the point. "What do you want?" Martha waited for a little while before responding. "I want to trade."
Updated RP Moment: Ari listened to the sounds of overlapping conversation and watched animated brooms sweeping the floor of the Night Cloak Inn as she sipped from her pint of ale. Seeing evidence of the magic present in Longsaddle already excited her. She glanced around the room looking for the one of the Harpells. The voice had described each member of the family to Ari, but she didn't recognize anyone that matched the descriptions the voice had told her. Ari heard the voice again "They are not here, we must look elsewhere". She was about to get up when she heard a voice behind her "Allow me to give you some information on behalf of one of our fellow citizens in evident difficulty. Miss Martha Sharnshield appears to be in urgent need of the services of adventurers; you know, one of those somewhat mysterious and probably dangerous matters where, however, you can get well paid. If by any chance you think you might be the right type for her, she recommended that you contact her immediately. Sharnshield Manor is on the north side of Longsaddle, you cannot miss it. If this news was of your interest, I'm glad I was helpful". Ari turned to see an old woman who looked surprisingly healthy for her age, she was about to refuse but she heard the voice in her head again "Martha Sharnshield is a very powerful person here, if we help her maybe she can grant us access to the Harpells, Say that you'll go there at once." Ari took another sip before answering, letting the warmth of the alcohol comfort her. "I'll head there at once, thanks for...uh...making me aware of this." Ari felt uncomfortable speaking to others, she had been instructed never to speak to others, just to follow their orders. "Of course." the woman said politely. With a new goal in mind; Ari left the Night Cloak Inn to head for the Sharnshield Manor.
Name:Obadiah Ravencroft Race: Human (Variant) Class: Barbarian (Berserker) Background: Outlander Backstory: Having lived his whole life as a simple but content woodsman, Obadiah one fateful day deep in the forest encountered an old crone who tried to beguile him with her witchcraft. The strong-willed woodsman swiftly broke free of the charm and furious over having almost lost himself he slew the old hag in a fit of rage, but with her dying breath the crone cursed him. The woodsman could only remember a red haze until he found himself standing with his bloody blade over his slaughtered wife and young children. He knew it must have been the wicked curse that was the cause. Grief-stricken he still found the strength to bury his family by a large oak on a hill before leaving his home, never looking back, setting out to seek redemption and to lift the raging curse he carried.
He had been walking aimlessly for several days until he saw a settlement in the distance, the hamlet of Longsaddle with it's peculiar wizards. He doubted they could help him with his curse, more likely worsen it somehow he thought and sighed deeply. Continuing towards the hamlet, sun setting in the distance, he noticed a sign on the side of the road, stopping and reading it while drinking some water. He had never been an adventurer at heart, he only ever wanted to live the quiet life, but fate had dealt him another hand entirely. He realized he would likely need that reward that was mentioned if he was to remove the curse and find solace again, so he put away his waterskin and set off towards the Sharnshield Manor, hoping not only to earn that reward but to start down his path of redemption, using his blade for good, using it to save and protect the innocents, until he finally would deserve his rest with his family in the afterlife.

The time has come to help poor Martha Sharnshield. I close the recruitment now. Applications that will be posted after this post will not be taken into consideration.
So the only valid applications are: badfishingdad75 - with Schnocktirs Shieldcrusher, Human Monk Bluepanther512 - with Ilwythe, Half-orc Barbarian (Totem Warrior) Culuril - with Roxana Raincrest, Human Rogue (Tief) DirtyDogP - with Engelhart Farrun, Human Fighter (Battle Master) Dragonmage77- with Ari, Human Warlock (Great Old One) FrandalSilvereyes - with Aidwyn, Human Fighter (Battle Master) Furujiru - with Tyrgram, the Butterfly Knight, Human Warlock (Archfey patron) Kol_Drake - with Tarysaa Sōlus, Moon Elf Wizard Mister_Whisker - with Rashugri "Rash" Bloodskull, Half-orc Wizard Oberon99 - with Obadiah Ravencroft, Human Barbarian (berserker) OisinmacCameron - with Quspira Inirali, Tiefling Cleric (Life Domain) Saute_Monkey - with Daisy Holderheck, Hill Dwarf Druid (Circle of Moon) TheOneSam - with Thalos "Stormsong" Copperbranch, Lightfoot Halfling Bard Tordon38 - with Ardana, Tiefling Paladin ZimmSalabim - with Nimblestep Thimblestein, Lightfoot Halfling Bard
Thank you so much to all of you who applied! When I opened the recruitment, I would not have hoped for so many candidates, that's awesome! I will try to pick a good number of you.
Inevitably, since I can't manage a whole army of characters, someone won't be chosen. Forgive me and don't be discouraged, this can depend on many factors, not all focused on the quality of the character (for example, if I want to choose six players and I have 6 excellent fighters among the applications... this means that either I create a party of 6 fighters - which, although it may be an interesting experiment, risks lacking in versatility, or some of the 6 fighters, no matter how excellent they may be, will not be chosen). If you won't be chosen by me for this campaign, try applying to others (possibly also other campaigns of mine in the future) and your time will come too.
Now I will make up my mind and I will make my final choice very soon.
In these days I will personally contact those I choose; if you are not contacted within two or three days, it will mean that you have not been selected.
Thanks one more time and I wish you all that, despite the challenges that are by no means lacking in the real world, you can still enjoy yourself for a long time dreaming and playing with your imagination!
How did my original post get the "potentially manipulated dice roll" and change of roll when I never edited the post? Is it because I refreshed the page to look for new comments? New to PbP so if you know what caused this I would appreciate any tips. Thanks.

Ability scores: 12511111116
idk about refreshing the page, but if you put the dice rolls into a quote box like I've done above it protects them from being flagged no matter how often you edit the post. Its why you often see a lot of recruiting posts where people just drop a block of ability scores in, bc they can quote that message when they do the actual application post and the stats will be locked in by the quote box

I think I've seen those change too, though I am very new to PbP so it could be just me getting used to all this. Your post is 12 15 8 14 15 11. To test, I am going to refresh a few times to see if I can get it to change, perhaps open a new window and refresh as well.
I think I know what it was, it was the original post that changed without them editing it and not having the warning. I bet that is what I saw.
Oh, I see. Another occurence of that bug - we do not even eidt our post, but the "manipulated" warning shows up.
I've been trying to bring this bug to the attention of the D&D Beyond staff since 12/4/2022 (this is the post I reported it with) but unfortunately it seems that no one has ever taken care of it.
I am very sorry and it irritates me, because it is obviously an incredibly stupid bug, as I also tried to explain in my report - and which could probably be fixed without much effort or time.
I don't know what to think... if you want to try to reply to that post by pointing out that it happened again and that you too would like it to be resolved... Perhaps by continuing to point out, sooner or later the topic will receive attention.
I have added a comment and gave my post as an example, but it was only the 2nd comment on that thread.
Yes, I know. It's probably because someone who runs into the bug (like you) has no way of knowing that there's already a bug report (unless they research the forum extensively) - so they don't go and add their case. I'd like to think that the staff will also come to this reasoning and understand that the occurrences of the bug are many more than what the only number of posts in response to mine can lead to believe... Anyway, we'll see.
Tarysaa Sōlus felt the bug turn to pulp under her boot. "Sorry; not sorry. If you stayed in your space instead of trying to invade mine, we might have gotten along." Tarysaa shaded her eyes as she looked down the main road. Which way did Mistress Hathwinter say that Sharnshield Manor was?

Kudos to the GM not only for putting the game together but for running one of the most organized and exhaustive recruitment threads I’ve ever seen.
good luck and fun games to everyone!

How did my original post get the "potentially manipulated dice roll" and change of roll when I never edited the post? Is it because I refreshed the page to look for new comments? New to PbP so if you know what caused this I would appreciate any tips. Thanks.
It's because the D&D forums are so, so glitchy and someone needs to clean this mess up (but they never do).

It's my theory that they aren't fixing it because they want people to use the character sheet dice instead.
