The Cleric swings his weapon down upon the giant rat, but misses even as the rodent leaps back to its place behind the bottleneck created by the row of barrels — and is blinded by Fiselius's spell. With the remaining six rats lurking angrily in the shadows, four of them rendered blind and squealing by the Wizard's spell, the next to react will be Izore! What will the Ranger do?
Izore's heart races as her first attack misses, her lips press into a thin line, as she focuses on shifting her weight with practised precision. Drawing upon her instincts, she lines up her second strike with utmost determination, and her blade connects true, slicing through the giant rat before her. A rush of satisfaction mixed with adrenaline courses through her veins.
Though not one to revel in violence, the success of her strike fills her with a sense of accomplishment. Before she can dwell on it further, the rodent's suffering ends abruptly with the finishing blow from Emmaline's weapon. Izore can't help but grin at her companion, appreciating their shared victory.
"Girl power!"
There is no time for more talk as the rats keep attacking. A well-pointed spell by Fiselius seems to cause some stirring up in the vermin's ranks. Izore realises the closest ones seem blinded and try to retreat, squeaking frantically.
Without hesitation, Izore tightens her grip on her two short swords and takes off after the retreating rat that so far has managed to avoid the attack from Gary. As she closes in, she swings with even more determination.
(I assumed I get the advantage on both attacks but if not, I guess the wrong one can be disregarded xD) Edit: I forgot to ask how big are the big barrels, can we just jump over them or do we need to climb/go around them?
(the large barrels are 5ft tall when standing, 3ft tall laying down. the small barrels are 3ft tall when standing, 1ft tall laying down! I'd say you can jump over the small barrels on their side without problem, but all the others will require you to try jumping or climbing)
The Ranger darts in after the retreating rodent, swinging her shortsword with well-struck precision. The blade bites into the giant rat's flesh, creating a deep gash in the creature's neck which leaves it screeching — as scarlet blood pours out from its wound and it stumbles. With Izore's second swing, she brings her other weapon slicing through the other side of the rodent's neck, cutting the giant rat's head right off which rolls, dripping, across the cellar's floorboards. The rat crouched behind the barrel in front of the Half-Elf girl lets out its own shriek and races towards the noises, its claws scrabbling across the wood beneath its feet as it leaps blindly for Izore. (Attack Roll: 3) It smacks directly into the barrel that stands before it, squeaking all the while as it reels from the self-inflicted blow.
Another giant rodent, this one lurking on the other side of the barrels and remaining out of reach of the Wizard's spell, darts forward next, this beast aiming for Vonbek. (Attack Roll: 8) Once again, the rat's yellowed fangs don't manage to pierce the Barbarian's armor even a bit — and it ducks back into position while the other non-blinded rat closes in. This rodent leaps for Izore instead, aiming to bite at the Ranger's leg. (Attack Roll: 16) This one manages to hit its mark, sinking its teeth around the girl's ankle and dealing 4 piercing damage before slinking back beside the other rats. And with that, the next to react will be Emmaline, with Vonbek on deck! What will the Paladin do?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Emmaline, hindered by the bottleneck, considers a bold charge through the center but stops herself, tempering her eager lust for combat and refocusing herself on how best to serve her god and her allies... Instead, she draws her hand-axe from her side and launches the weapon end-over-end toward the rat that just attacked Vonbeck and Izore...

Once he has steadied himself, he tells the others he is going to make some room for the smelly vermin, and moves to the open corner space beside Emmaline and Izore. Emmaline Gladstone hurls her handaxe, the weapon swinging through the dusty air of the brewery cellar and sinking directly into the skull of the giant rat. The creature immediately crumples to the wooden floorboards beneath it, slain by the Paladin's well-aimed throw. Fiselius also succeeds in his Ray of Frost aimed towards one of the giant rodents, but the spell doesn't have much effect — and the rat looks largely unharmed even after the frigid beam hits it. With that, the battle continues — Garith being the next adventurer to attack, with Izore on deck! What will the Cleric do?
Time seems to stretch and distort around Izore. With a surreal clarity, she feels her hand close around the hilt of her short sword, sinking it deep into the blinded rat's body. The world is suddenly awash with noise: the sickening crunch of steel breaching flesh, the rodent's frantic, shrill cries of pain, and the sharp intake of her own breath as she deftly shifts her body, transitioning smoothly to attack with her second blade. That familiar, bone-crunching sound makes her jaw clench as the weapon finds its mark.
She withdraws her blades, exhales, and suddenly the world lurches back into its usual tempo. The once disparate noises merge into a maddening din. A heavy exhale. Her heart thuds, wild and fast. Her green eyes lock onto the twitching body of the dying rat, witnessing the last flickers of life escaping from it. The experience is different now, perhaps her Elven heritage taking over in this moment - an unsettling mix of accomplishment and remorse. The weight of her actions sinks in: it was her hand that brought about the end of this creature's existence.
A mantra surfaces, "It's my duty." She blinks once, then a second time, a peculiar sensation creeping around her ankle. Another rat, its teeth embedded deep.
Izore winces but perhaps due to the adrenaline, her mind doesn't really register the pain. Before the half-elf can retaliate, Emmaline's handaxe flies right past, hitting the attacking rat head-on. And just like this, it's dead.
The two parties now seem separated on the two sides of the barrels and casks. Izore bites her lip, surveying her position. She doesn't feel like trying to jump or climb the large barrels - one misstep might send her straight into the teeth of the rest of the vermin and she definitely doesn't want to experience that again.
Time for a different approach.
With fluid grace, she sheathes her swords and draws her longbow.
Her left hand grips the weapon firmly as her right hand notches an arrow and draws the bowstring back. The green eyes are focused on the rat in a direct diagonal position from her and the arrow is released.

The arrow finds its target. Another creature is now slain by her hand. Izore exhales and then readies another arrow at the bowstring, but it looks like her fellow adventurers are moving as swiftly as herself, finishing vermin left and right. The cellar seems to quiet down as the nails scrape and squeak, dying along with the rats.
Trying to catch her breath and slow down her heart rate, Izore puts her weapon away and marches toward the rat she killed, to pull back the arrow from the body. Arrows are expensive when you are a broke teenager, so she better make sure she gets it back.
Once she is done, the half-elf walks after Fiselius, eager to look through the hole too. Her gaze lingers on the corridor as she tries to detect whether there could be any obvious traps.
Vonbek takes a rag from his pocket and wipes the rat blood from his face, and then his axe. He stowes his blood soaked rag, and states "Killing rats makes me thirsty", while taking his axe and knocking a hole in the top of one of the ale barrels.
Inspecting the stone corridor that lies before the adventurers through the hole in the crumbled wall, Izore spots no traps within the dusty, debris-filled passageway — at least not before the turn of the corner. Emmaline, meanwhile, approaches the text on the wall, which is engraved in a golden script that appears to be shining slightly, even in the darkness illuminated only by your torches. It is written in Common, and reads:
"Dawn breaks with stirring air,
As sun shines down on new day fair
"Midday blaze bakes earth and grass,
The farmer waits for heat to pass
"Evening cool brings water, wine,
Drink and laughter passing time
"Night sees shining, roaring fire,
As wood and coals burn on the pyre"
As for Vonbek, the Barbarian easily tears a hole in the top of one of the wooden barrels — exposing gallons of cool, rich-smelling ale to the surface as the perfect spoils for their victory against the giant rodents.

He turns to Emmaline, "What do you make of it?" Listening to the sound of Vonbek he drinking he adds, "I'd say we've got the Drink and laughter passing time down pat."
Emmaline's face remains fixed in a state of placid concentration as, whispering, she recites the words over and over again to commit them to memory. She takes a moment's pause to answer Fiselius's question."It reminds me more of a riddle than a poem... Like the ones we used to tell each other late at night at the orph--" She trips over the word, catching herself course corrects to--"back where I grew up..."
She avoids eye contact with the others as she approaches the place where the corridor turns, but doesn't move closer than 5' of the turn. "I'm no expert... But the words seem too inelegant... to arbitrary to be a prayer, incantation or song."
Without moving further she cranes her neck around the corner, to see if she can get a look around that corner...

Realizing what she just said, she turns to Fiselius. "No offense to present company, I'm sure."

She avoids eye contact with the others as she approaches the place where the corridor turns, but doesn't move closer than 5' of the turn. "I'm no expert... But the words seem too inelegant... to arbitrary to be a prayer, incantation or song."

"If I was a betting person... which, I'm afraid, would be counter to my faith... I would wager that it's some kind of a clue. Realizing what she just said, she turns to Fiselius. "No offense to present company, I'm sure."
She then looks to the others. "By chance, does anyone have a mirror?"
