Jarin stays of to the side watching each interaction with a bit of amusement. "This trip should be interesting" he thought to himself. He watched the vessel glide through the sea with ease... wondering when they will see their destination.
As the sun sets in the West you see the almost full moon rising in the East. As it continues to get higher in evening sky you notice closely following it is a strange bright star. *anyone who feels particularly attuned to the astronomical, please roll History, or Perception.
You are all roused awake from your rest by the sounds of the crew shouting; their voices panicked and harried. The ship no longer gently swaying on the waves, but rocking strongly; you can hear large waves striking the ship’s hull…
Jarin curses under his breath... "I did offer for a faster solution" he thought. Then he quickly rose from his bed, put on his gear, and head out to the top to see what the matter was and what he can do to help.
Those who head out to the deck will see the crew shouting commands to one another. Giant waves start to crash over the deck. It is the middle of the night but the sky is roiling and swirling; thick black clouds mixed with flashes of lightning. To the West you see atop the sheer cliff face on an outcropping a lighthouse. It has a mysterious bridge of blue light that connects it to the main land of an island.
Amidst the flashes of light you see silhouettes of two draconic figures circling above the lighthouse — they spew magical arcs of lightning at each other as they spin in a wild helix. Suddenly, the light in the lighthouse and the bridge flicker and fade.
Over the chaos you hear a strange screech emanating from above. One of the crewmen stops his task and looks to the sky searching as if looking for a lost love. In an instant there is a creature diving from the sky, great feathered wings flap as it digs it’s talons into the man’s shoulders and lifts him into the air …his screams lost in the darkness.
More waves violently rock the ship and a lantern crashes to the deck and starts a fire.
Jarin, shocked by what he just saw, quickly springs into action, grabbing his rifle, and searches for any signs of the creature in the sky...(perception roll) = 18
Seeing the aerial battle, Willin mutters to himself, "Well, I think I just found out why I'm here."But which side am I supposed to take?
As the crew member is snatched up, though, he comes to a decision: Not that one. He unslings and loads his crossbow, readying it to fire if the creature makes another pass.[mechanically, the Ready action]. More surreptitiously, he also palms a small crystal from one of his pockets.
The main mast starts to crack as the men try to wrangle the main sail. There is a sickening lurch as the bottom of the hull strikes rock below the surface of the water. You all feel the dread that this ship is going to sink.
**at this point we will be doing a skill challenge. Just call out, in turn (no particular order), what skill you will be using and describe how you are applying that skill to a situation, then roll. If you get 3 successes before you get 4 failures, you will get some sort of benefit.
(for instance you could encourage the crew with your Charisma to inspire them, then you would roll adding your Charisma modifier )
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Jarin, still holding his rifle at the ready, reviews the situation quickly and works on a possible solution to keeping the boat afloat...(investigation roll) 17
So, Shiv, you get the sense Willin is withholding some information, not being completely forthcoming.

You only recall that you’ve never seen this celestial body before.
You all take your leave, and settle down for the night, prepared for an uneventful night up the coast.

Success. You deduce that making the boat lighter would help it stay afloat longer and begin throwing things overboard.
