(OOC: I think that we're still in round 5, right?)
Marten: Round 5
Marten follows through on what he said last round. He crosses the lean-to to Sildar to check on the man. The original intent was to stabilize Sildar if he was still unconscious or dying, but since Sildar is starting to come to, Marten just squats down next to him and verifies that he's stable. He says, "Rest easy, Sildar. Y're safe now. You took a big hit from Klarg, but we killed the bugbear and most o' his band o' goblins. Stay here in the shelter f'r a bit."
If Sildar doesn't have anything urgent to say, Marten gets up and crosses to the other side of the lean-to so that he's ready to help if the goblins are still harrying the group from a distance.
Vidruth move: r12 / perception 12 / preparing fire bolt for if the goblins take further hostile action (attack 15 damage 10)
Marten Perception 10 / Movement: > K11 / Attack G6, Shortbow (80/320): 24 (in game log) Damage: 4 (in game log)
Berry Move: to O4 (20 ft high) / Attack G8 (or G7 if G8 is not where the question mark is.): hit 12, damage 7
Daphyra (Perception 23) / Movement: to U14 / Action (held until she sees a goblin) - Toll the Dead (WIS DC13 or 10 damage)
Kiselina Move: Remain in Q11 (prone) / Free Action: grab a javelin / Action: Attack g10 (To Hit Disadvantage: 21, Damage: 9)
Nosam: Movement: Head north towards Marten / Dodge if needed (i.e. ready dodge action)
Round 4 Results (cont’d.)
Vidruth shifts position and readies a spell. No enemies come near.
Marten makes another long shot, somehow piercing many yards of foliage to kill a goblin with one shot. When he enters the natural lean-to, he discovers that Sildar is unconscious. Karg’s killing blow was barely deflected, but subsequently smashing against the stone wall knocked him out cold. He is starting to come to.
Berry brings his scimitar down on one of the goblins, but it dodges behind a tree branch, into which Berry’s blade thunks, slowing him down enough for the goblin to retreat.
Daphyra’s Toll the Dead destroys another goblin (G3), which covers its ears in a mad dash to escape, squeezing eyes shut in pain, then runs into a tree, slamming to the ground just before necrotic energy creeps over and sucks the life out of it.
Kiselina finds he is unable to throw a javelin from a prone position (DM ruling).
Nosam moves north toward Marten, meeting him at the entrance to the lean-to
Round 5 (partial)
Goblins 7 & 8 both (bonus action) disengage from Berry, move back a few feet, fire their shortbows at him, then run north.
Goblin 7 attacks Berry: 21 to hit / 7 piercing damage.
Goblin 8 attacks Berry: 16 to hit / 5 piercing damage.

The goblin is snickering while looking over its shoulder to ensure it wasn’t being followed. ‘Hahaha!, gave them the slip! The ol’ goblin slip! Hahaha—Aaaaegggghh!!!’
From out of nowhere, Kiselina’s javelin plummets through the thickets, punching through the goblin and impaling it to the ground. Its inertia carries it forward another foot until it hangs precariously atop the javelin then slowly slides down it to the ground.
Berry’s javelin flies true through the light rainfall and strikes the goblin in the center of its back. It pitches forward, dead, sliding to a stop on the moistening sedge.
At this point, the remaining goblins, G8 and G9, escape from the area. You will have to use tracking to follow them if you want to follow them.
We are now no longer in initiative. Two goblins remain in your area, asleep, while all of you are conscious and alive. Sildar, included. He shakes his head, and when he lowers his shield, you see an enormous black bruise forming on his chest and arm behind where his shield absorbed Klarg’s blow. The shield itself is cracked, and following an experimental tap from someone’s weapon, breaks in half.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Marten offers to help search the undergrowth to the south of their location for the goblins whom Daphyra put to sleep before her spell wears off and they sneak away. He asks Berry if they can use his manacles to restrain one of the goblins.
Marten will also need help in case the goblins wake up before he can secure their weapons. Vidruth and Berry are in pretty bad shape, but maybe Nosam and/or Kiselina could come help?
Berry trudges back to his companions and returns under the overhang to care for his wounds (a short rest if possible), "Who would have thought that they would follow us? Well, we don't need to worry anymore about setting the two leaders up against each other. If we return to the hideout now, we'll have to face one united tribe. Or what's left of it." He glances outside, "Did you find one of them sleeping goblins? By any luck we can get what information we need from them and don't need to go back to that cave." He says while searching his pack for the manacles to pass to Marten.
(edited to reflect that he gives the manacles to Marten)
Sorry, I'm beginning to enter a vacation period and while I will try to check-in at least daily, I cannot promise that I will always be able to do so. From September 1, I should be back to normal.
Kiselina is amazed at his shot, perhaps Tymora was selective on where her aid was provided. Either way, he thanks the gods (Bahamut and Beset as well) for the roll each has played in the group’s success. He moves to the south to assist in the search for the sleeping goblins (Perception: 12). He moves any weapons away (securing the quiver of arrows for Marten) before restraining the creature with rope. To Daphyra, “Once again your healing hand has provided comfort to my wounds Mistress. We are grateful to call you a friend. May you remain healthy enough that I never need to return the favor.” To the others, “Does anyone else need assistance? How fairs Master Hallwinter?”
Once the slumbering menaces are handled, Kiselina will search for his javelin and likewise search the impaled goblin for information and equipment (quiver of arrows for Marten) (Investigation: 18)
Daphyra bows to Kiselina in reply. "And to you, my comrade."
She tidies herself up a little, smoothing down her fur, and then goes to look for the sleeping goblins to retrain them with rope, if there are not enough manacles. She asks for Bastet's guidance in her search (perception10 plus guidance 1)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
It takes several moments to discover the two sleeping goblins in the underbrush and to tie and manacle them. Daphyra's spell ends a moment later, and the goblins awaken with a start, struggle, screech, and threaten until they realize their attempts are pointless. You have two captives.
Kiselina finds no information on the goblin he felled, but it does have 4 black-fletched arrows and a scimitar and a shield. Kiselina's javelin is bent and broken.
Not 100% sure what the group's next course of action should be, Nosam moves to assist Marten for now (ooc: I'll follow Marten's course of movement while pursuing the goblins unless he chooses to split us up). "How you want to get the rest of 'em Mister Marten?"
Kiselina returns to the group near the restrained goblins with the gathered equipment. He carries the limp body of the dead goblin back as well. He lays it down gently and arranges it in a final resting position. The Paladin say a little prayer over the body asking for peace to its soul.
The knight finally rises and slowly moving to the edge of the clearing casually mentions, “Master Vidruth, I shall leave the interrogation of these two in your capable hands. I am sure I have neither the skill nor the desire to partake in this activity. See what we can learn of Master Gundren and the Black Spider if you please.”
The Dragonborn then places the quiver of arrows beside Marten. Lastly, he lays the shield and scimitar at the feet of Hallwinter. “Should you desire to arm yourself, Master Sildar.”
Daphyra nods to Vidruth. "If you are content to take the lead questioning these individuals, I will assist you."
Her mouth sets grimly. "We need this information."
She touches her amulet and closes her eyes briefly. She casts Guidance on Vidruth, brushing her paw briefly on his shoulder and whispering a prayer to Bastet.
Berry continues to care for his injuries. He hadn't have that many since a long time, or never, actually, now that he comes to think of it. "Let me know if you need me!" He let's the others know. "I'd stay in here for a short while longer, if that's ok. Buggers got me got good with a few of their shafts."

Sorry, I'm beginning to enter a vacation period and while I will try to check-in at least daily, I cannot promise that I will always be able to do so. From September 1, I should be back to normal.
Berry trudges back to his companions and returns under the overhang to care for his wounds (a short rest if possible), "Who would have thought that they would follow us? Well, we don't need to worry anymore about setting the two leaders up against each other. If we return to the hideout now, we'll have to face one united tribe. Or what's left of it."
Marten ruefully says, "Sorry. I shoulda known. It's what I would do. I was jus' so focused on gettin' back that I let m' guard down."
He glances outside, "Did you find one of them sleeping goblins? By any luck we can get what information we need from them and don't need to go back to that cave." He says while searching his pack for the manacles to pass to Marten.
Marten takes the manacles and bows his head, "Thank ye'. Not yet, but we'll find 'em."
Regarding the goblins still at the cave: "True. Yeenik now leads 'em all, but unless they got reinforcements this morning, Klarg must've brought some of Yeenik's goblins today. If we go back to the cave soon, we may catch Yennik in a weak position. We could make him answer for the hurt he gave Sildar."
By Marten's count, there were 5 goblins on the northern slope today, and only 3 of them got away. After the fight, it'll be clear that they killed or captured 5 more to the south of their shelter. Yesterday, they only saw 3 goblins left in Klarg's chamber in the caves, so the 10 goblins today must have included some of the goblins from the western tunnels. Sildar said that there were 8 goblins with Yeenik. Even if SIldar's count didn't include the two archers the party saw on the bridge, once the ones who fled got to the cave, Yeenik would only have 6 goblins in the caves with him.
Marten likes those odds, especially when he learns that Vidruth hasn't used all of his spell slots for the day. With the superior range of the darkvision that Daphyra could grant them, Marten may be able to pick off Yeenik's guards before the goblins can even see the party. And how could the goblins charge at the party? Since Marten has now seen Kiselina's breath weapon, he's imagining the paladin clearing an entire tunnel of goblins for them. (The bridge tunnel looked like it might be just 5' wide.)
Not 100% sure what the group's next course of action should be, Nosam moves to assist Marten for now (ooc: I'll follow Marten's course of movement while pursuing the goblins unless he chooses to split us up). "How you want to get the rest of 'em Mister Marten?"
Marten says, "I think that those 'uns got away, unless they try to circle back. But I don' think 3 goblins would try to attack us again on their own. Not after we killed Klarg and so many of the others. But let's go gather what we can."
Marten will go with Nosam to gather at least the gear (if not the bodies) of the goblins whom they killed. They can stack it all near Klarg's and the wolf's bodies. Kiselina already checked G10, so Marten will keep watch (just in case the other goblins are still nearby) as Nosam checks and gathers gear and any treasure from goblin G6. Perception18
Once they're done with G6, the two of them can return to the south of the outcropping to gather gear from G5, G4, and G3. Marten will also gather any gear of the captured goblins G1 and G2.
Marten is hoping that among the goblins' gear, he can find:
at least 20 arrows (a full quiver)
1 or more daggers. Marten left one of his daggers in the throat of a goblin in the pool chamber yesterday, and he'd like to find it or find a replacement for it.
Berry's javelin - if it's not broken
Marten will search the big hairy body of Klarg for any treasure or any information. He doesn't expect to find much gear that he could use on such a big brute, but maybe there's a note or map or something. Investigation21
The Dragonborn then places the quiver of arrows beside Marten.
"Thank you!", Marten says, happily. He still has 17 of his own arrows, but he prefers to spend the goblins' own arrows against them.
Marten is happy to leave the interrogation of the goblins to Vidruth and Daphyra.
Once Marten and Nosam are done gathering searching bodies and gathering the gear, Marten will rest a little and eat a snack while he waits for Berry and Vidruth to finish their short rest. (Marten was not badly injured in the last fight, so he does not plan to take a short rest now.)
Marten and Nosam find enough arrows to fill Marten’s quiver, and a shoddy old knife that works as a dagger. Berry’s javelin is snapped nearly in two from the goblin falling on the tip. There are 12cp and assorted ragged belongings on the goblin’s belts. Klarg carries nothing except his own weapons, a huge cudgel and a huge bracer which works like a shield for a big person. Kiselina could use it. There is no further information to be gained through investigation.
(Vidruth: bot #1) Vidruth intimidates the captives in time-honored goblinoid fashion, threatening a thousand deaths of unrelieved agony with uncomplicated turns of phrase. It works.
You learn the listed points below from the goblins after you promise not to kill them, and they promise not to “try anything.”
Yeenik, who was ousted as the leader of this clan several months ago by Klarg, was jealous of Klarg and also didn’t trust the Black Spider. Yeenik didn’t think kidnapping was “a good cowardly goblin thing to do.” He challenged Klarg in the aftermath of the PCs escape. It didn’t go well. Klarg killed him. Now Yeenik’s dead, along with his staunchest supporters. “Yeenik was right,” mutters one of the goblins. “Now our clan is gone because of Klarg and Grol and Black Spider.”
Your captives tell you that the crag is now empty. All of the goblins in the crag tracked you down with Klarg.
Klarg answered to King Grol, chief of the Cragmaw tribe, who dwells in Cragmaw Castle. Cragmaw Castle is about twenty miles northeast of the Cragmaw hideout, in Neverwinter Wood. The goblins give you basic directions.
Klarg received a messenger goblin from King Grol a week or tenday ago. The messenger told him that someone named the Black Spider was paying the Cragmaws to watch out for the dwarf Gundren Rockseeker, capture him, and send him and anything he was carrying back to King Grol. Klarg followed his orders. Gundren was ambushed and taken along with his personal effects, including a map.
The dwarf and his map were taken to King Grol, as instructed.
(OOC: you enjoy the benefits of a short rest. Also, you each receive 120XP for surviving this battle. That should be enough to catapult you to Second Level!)
Marten congratulates the wizard: "Good job, Vidruth!"
If Yeenik is already dead, then Marten's priority shifts to getting Sildar safely back to Phandalin. He now advocates for returning to Phandalin today after their short rest is complete: "After today's rout, I reckon that the goblins won't be in a hurry to return to the cave. We should get Sildar back to Phandalin safe 'n' sound so that he can get a proper rest and start to heal. Then m'ybe we can return to the cave tomorrow or the next day to see whether the goblins left behind anything valuable in the caves. I saw stacks of boxes and barrels in Klarg's chamber yesterday, but we only found a few coppers on the bodies today. They must have left most of their supplies and stolen goods in the cave. But we should keep our victory over Klarg and his lot quiet at first. We don' want some prospector from Phandalin to find the cave and clear it out before we get back there."
