35th March -1C 4983 CY, the first human ruins were discovered in the frozen far north of Perkwunos. After all these years, the legend is true, the precursor race who once ruled the entire planet wasn't a legend, after all.
Then, a rock fell and everyone on the exploration team died.
Once the news reached the rest of Lancea, everyone flocked to Perkwunos, lured by tales of endless riches and power that lay within the frozen grave. What could be inside? A sword that can cut through mountains like a hot knife through butter? A scroll of Wish? Enough gold to crash the entire planet's economy? No one knows, in fact, no one even knows where the actual ruin is or what it looks like. Far North Perkwunos isn't particularly a welcoming place, not because of the wildlife (They would love to see something else that isn't pine or snow), but because of its extreme isolation. It's a wild frontier, cold (literally) and unforgiving, but it's also a place to make history.
And you all want to make history, after all, you're adventurers, it's what you do for a living.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you—a campaign seven years in the making.
I've been writing and publishing books for children aged 10-14 since 2016, most of them in Thai, and I'm no stranger to worldbuilding. The concept of Lancea began in 2018, and I've been building and improving the world ever since. As for D&D, I started as a player in late 2019 and began DMing in 2021. It's not a lot of experience, but I think I have enough passion and vision to make this work. Though this is the first time I've ever posted something on the forum, I mostly run games on Discord, but I couldn't find enough players to do so.
Lancea is much more different than your typical D&D world in that...
It has no humans. The history of Lancea is extremely long, but most of it was lost. Humans first emerged in -26C and suddenly disappeared in -13C (C stands for Cycle, and each Cycle lasts exactly 10,000 years—-260,000 to 130,000). No one knows why... until now, it's up to you to find out what happened to humans. You can still use Human and Var. Human stats, but you have to flavour their appearance to something else. The most common race in Lancea and the closest equivalent of human is the common elf, which is a close relative to half-elves and they use human stats.
Almost everyone is sentient. From gelatinous cubes to trees with legs, anything smart enough to beat you is also smart to negotiate with you first. After all, Sigmund Freud once said "Civilisation began the first time an angry person cast a word instead of a rock." Every monster is as smart as any other people out there, and some might even speak in your tongue. Most of them will speak in a constructed language I created, more on that below.
D&D and some pop culture relics canonically exist in Lancea. They were relics of humans in their glorious days, some of them originate from Sol, which is the name Lanceans give to our planet. When there are no TV or mobile phones, board games like this are a great source of entertainment, and some of them love roleplaying so much that they decide to become adventurers and do it in real life. Why do they exist? You'll find out more later on. Go crazy with the references.
There aren't many languages. Most 'civilised' people speak Lancean, an equivalent of Common in this world, and everyone understands it, even animals. Animals and other beasts, though, speak Alharisian, a constructed language I created based on Galician. Alharisian is partially a magical language because all native speakers of it are cursed to not be able to learn another language. And there are Charan, Protrigetrix, and Carolean, spoken by giants and fey, demonic entities and angels, and dragons respectively. Don't worry, I'll provide a translation, it's my language, after all.
Killing people have consequences. Lanceans might be a bit insane sometimes, they love to fight and spar, but actually killing someone is too far. It might be fine if you kill a monster in self-defence, but do that to a 'civilised' being and you'll be barred as dishonourable, and society will forever loathe you... once they found out, that is.
There is only one God. Lanceans are monotheistic, they believe in God (Not the same one as Abrahamic God), also known as Shepherd. He's omnipotent, but He rarely ever interacts with the mortal realm. Perkwunosites aren't as religious as other people on Lancea, but everyone fully agrees that God does exist because Clerics and Paladins are a thing
There are other things to note, such as...
Anything goes. UAs, Aarakocras, classes, and anything from any book is fine to me. You can make your character sheet on anything that's available, even real papers. You can roll for stats, point buy, or standard array, you can take feats or ASI.
Characters start at Lv 3. I'm not entirely sure how long this will take, but expect your character to be around Level 14-16 by the end.
This campaign is RP-heavy. Please, please don't try to one-line response to everything. Try your best, and put some quality in your posts.
This campaign is not serious. The world isn't in grave danger, you're just a curious adventurer trying to discover more about a long-lost civilisation and maybe do some side jobs along the way. People in Lancea are a bit eccentric too, I'm ready to handle your craziest, most ridiculous character ideas.
Make at least one post per day. I know life can be unpredictable, but please try not to leave the game without messaging me first. If you do not post something within 3 days in the campaign thread, you are considered to abandon the game unless you PM me that you'll be on a break.
All applications count. Even if you don't get accepted, I might use your character as an NPC. There is a lot of competition in a treasure-hunting business, after all.
And finally, the lethality system. Everything in Lancea has a brain and a soul, they would never stoop as low as killing someone unless they really, really have to do it for their survival. Putting down a mortally wounded man is fine, and shooting deer for meat is fine, but killing someone for the sake of it is nothing but dishonour, and being marked as dishonourable could get you exiled from society.
I propose a modification In the rules, if enemies will be attacking you non-lethally, it'd be a walk in the park through the entire campaign, but I know different players have different opinions, which is why I have two of them.
Option A: You start out with the maximum hit points available to your class plus your CON modifier. If you're a Level 3 Wizard with +1 CON, you'd have 21 HP, Tough feat still works normally. But if your HP reaches zero in combat, you'll considered to be knocked out. No death saves and healing spells don't wake you up in this situation until the combat is finished. Once you wake up, you'll get -2 points of Exhaustion. If you choose this option, all reviving spell takes only an action instead of something else and it can be used to bring other characters that got KO'd back to the fight. Just like regular Exhaustion, this can be reduced by long rest, and just like regular Exhaustion, you can die if you have too many points in it.
Option B: Everything is the same as vanilla D&D, except whatever you do, the enemies can do it too. They make death saves and they can bring someone back in combat with healing spells, but they usually run away or surrender once their HP is low enough. However, both you and the enemy can still die if you fail death saves.
No matter which option you pick, any attack that can be performed can be non-lethal, even ranged attacks or spells. All of this doesn't mean you're invincible, though, there are still times when the enemy might act dishonourable and attempt to kill you, but those are very rare and only for the most dramatic moments.
With that out of the way, here's the application form, delete anything that's inside the bracket:
(Edit: Oops, I forgot to add. I'm accepting 5 players. Hope that'll help with future questions.)
(Edit 2: Holy crap, another player, finally. I forgot to say that you should add a link to your character sheet to your application forms too. Sorry.)

"The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference."
Personality: Bloom is a very sweet and bubbly character who enjoys spreading beauty and joy. She does however despise ugliness and destroys in no matter what it takes.
Backstory: Born from two tiefling cultists and devil worshippers, Bloom’s parents died when she was an infant, and in turn she grew among the beautiful trees and sentient beings of the wild. She was always told that she was a special kind of flower, rather than what whe really was. The druidic circle she joined felt disturbed as they saw her extreme view on beauty and how she wanted to make everything beautiful. Accordingly they told her to spread her wings and centure through the lands.
What object do they think is inside the human ruin?: A pretty flower
Personality: Asocial and paranoid, the archetypal rogue. Prefers the company of other races, since they can't tell a normal dwarf from a mad one. Goes through money very quickly.
Backstory: Uninterested in metals and gemstones, he was the black sheep of his family. He left home as soon as he could. His uncanny ability to find and disarm traps made him popular among dungeon delvers, but his willingness to associate with unsavoury individuals has lost him many job opportunities, which is a problem since he loves buying stupid stuff.
What object do they think is inside the human ruin?: Openly, treasure to last a lifetime. Secretly, a meaning to his life.
Name: Eero Class and Subclass: Fighter - Rune Knight Background: Mercinary Vet. Personality: Overall, Eero is a pragmatic and courageous adventurer with a strong sense of loyalty and a commitment to the greater good. His experiences and age have shaped him into a reliable and experienced member of any adventuring party. Backstory: What object do they think is inside the human ruin?: Eero believes that inside the human ruin in Far North Perkwunos, there may be a relic or artifact of great historical significance. Given his curiosity and pragmatic nature, he doesn't hold extravagant fantasies of vast wealth or immeasurable power. Instead, he is more interested in uncovering knowledge and uncovering the truth about the vanished human civilization. Specifically, Eero thinks that there might be an ancient tome, a collection of scrolls, or a series of inscriptions that could shed light on the history, culture, and disappearance of the humans in Lancea. He envisions these documents as a key to unraveling the mysteries of the past and potentially providing valuable insights into the world's history and the reasons behind the disappearance of humans. Eero's belief in the importance of this historical knowledge drives him to explore the ruins with the hope of discovering these ancient writings and bringing their secrets to light. Appearance: Eero is an imposing figure, standing well over six feet tall with a powerfully built physique. His weathered skin bears the marks of numerous battles and the harsh conditions of the frozen frontier. One of his most distinctive features is a deep scar that runs down the side of his face, continuing on his chest, near his throat, and under his armor, a testament to the dangers he's faced. Eero is always prepared for combat, wearing chain mail armor and carrying an array of weapons on his person. He often uses a glaive as a walking staff, a versatile weapon that serves him both in combat and as a tool for traversing the treacherous terrain of Far North Perkwunos. His eyes, a calm and collected shade of gray, reflect the wisdom and experience that come with his age. His black hair is liberally sprinkled with gray, a reminder of the passage of time and the countless adventures he's embarked on. Backstory: Eero's journey as an adventurer began on the day he joined the ranks of mercenaries in Lancea. Born in a remote village on the fringes of civilization, he grew up in a harsh environment where survival often depended on one's ability to fend off the dangers of the wilderness. From a young age, he exhibited a talent for combat and a natural affinity for the martial arts. As he came of age, Eero decided to leave his village behind and seek his fortune as a hired sword. He traveled across Lancea, taking on various contracts that ranged from protecting caravans to clearing out monster-infested dungeons. Along the way, he honed his combat skills and earned a reputation as a reliable and capable warrior. His life took a turn when rumors began circulating about the discovery of human ruins in the remote and frozen reaches of Far North Perkwunos. The legend of the precursor race who once ruled the planet had always been dismissed as a myth, but the recent findings hinted at the possibility of its truth. However, the discovery came at a great cost. A brave exploration team had ventured into the treacherous wilderness to uncover the ruins, but tragedy struck, and they met their untimely demise. The news of the team's fate sent shockwaves across Lancea, drawing the attention of adventurers and historians alike. The precise location of the ruins remained a well-guarded secret, known only to those who had perished in the ill-fated expedition. Eero, driven by his insatiable curiosity and a desire to uncover the truth about the vanished human civilization, decided to embark on a journey of his own. He was not part of the ill-fated exploration team but had heard of their fate through the whispers of fellow adventurers. Determined to make history and learn about the ancient humans, he set out for Far North Perkwunos. Character Link:
Assuming the Game is going to be ran on discord as the other previously have I'll throw my hat in the ring [withdrawn due to game not be on discord]
Name: Clarence Valac -Custom Lineage half Elf
Class and Subclass: Peace Domain/ Conjurtion Wizard 2
Background: Guild Artisan - Baldur's Gate
Personality: Clarence is an bit of an interesting character. I loosely based his abilities on Clara Valac from the anime "Welcome to Demon school Iruma Kun." I made him to be charismatic and friendly. He's very studious and kind to those around them offering to learn as much about them as he can. When in combat Clarence is always trying to look at the macro and because of his ability to make anything he see's he will always try to make sure the battle switches in his team's favor.
Backstory: Clarence comes from an long line of Conjuration wizards. Because their uncanny ability to create objects of their choice, they've become merchants who travel the world looking for all sorts of exotic items to copy and create. Clarence of course picked up the family trade and with similar powers is now able to do the same. However because of his constant travels he really wasn't able to make friends. Most people coming to him always always want something whether it was coins, or food, or items that they could use and then leave Clarence behind once they got what they wanted. Being as young as he was he didn't know better and thought that friendship would always be like that. That was of course until Trixie Quickhands entered his life. The Tiefling rogue at first like others tried to rob his shop but after being apprehended by the conjurer she made quick friends and working off her misdeed. She showed him that there were other reasons to create items besides work and for those who abused his power. Now with big dreams of creating things this world has never seen before Clarence has set out for an adventure!
What object do they think is inside the human ruin?:Probably something new that has been hidden from the World. Clarence wants to go in and be able to create it for himself!
Personality: Venet loves attention, is flirtatious, and warm to people around her. She thrives off of high energy places or activities, and seemingly is fickle when it comes to plans, changing her mind about things quickly when something new and exciting comes along. Despite this, she loves her friends very much and will protect them fiercely. She is easily enthralled with sparkling objects, not because of the monetary worth of it, but because of its beauty. She finds something endearing about everyone, some spark of natural beauty, that she will likely comment on.
Backstory: Venet has always been musically inclined, and was once mistaken for a siren while singing to herself along the shore of her home. Since those days she has earned a reputation for her siren-like qualities and fickle nature. It is beyond difficult to book her for a show as she often picks where she'll play at near random, wandering into a place simply because she feels pulled to it. That's how she goes about life, being pulled by beauty, or the excitement in the air. When she heard of the brimming potential of these ruins, she was utterly filled with excitement, and set out immediately to learn more.
What object do they think is inside the human ruin?: She dreams of forgotten treasures, sparkling gems, or sheets of music unheard since the humans were lost. Her mind spirals at the thought.
People with Custom Linage, please explain to me which race the character is actually supposed to be. Remember, folks, humans doesn't exist in this world.
"The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference."
Eero won't be there with the exploration team, that's the whole point of why people cane to Perkwunos in the first place. The location is supposed to be very secret and the only group of people who have seen it all died. Please adjust the backstory accordingly.
And don't worry, I tried doing this on Discord before andnit failed, so I probably won't ever run another game on Discord ever again.

Yeah, and I hope this one will go smoothly without anyone ghosting or leaving. It happened to me too many times, just my luck, I guess. Not getting players is one thing, but having one leaving you mid-campaign and ruining everything I plan for their character feels like a slap to the face. But alas, I can't really control someone's life, especially in an age where everything is so unpredictable like this.

I'm interested but i have a multitude of questions. even more so since im extremely new to DnD as a whole (despite roleplaying for over 4-5 years on various other games and wanting to move up a massive step to become even better at it)
frist, is this on Discord on is it all going to be taking place here. Ether way im ok with that.
second, what do you feel about homebrew races? the one I'm going to use doesn't have any significant effects beside visual change, since i wanna have my own costume apperence while still not adding anything to not ruining this game and also to learn better.
It'll be posted here on the forums, not Discord. I like to type a lot and Discord limits you to only 2,000 characters, it's just not viable.
As for the homebrew race, I'll have to see what you have in mind. Go ahead and tell me about your ideas.

ahh, got it. I understand and I don't mind doing it all on here since it is a nice change of pace (although tbh im find it amazing that you can easily break the 2K character limit).
For the homebrew race (which i have 2 other races but i don't want to implement them due to fears of them turning out unbalanced/broken due to how different they are), what i had it mind was a race called Drakeborns. they are basically like the dwarf version of a dragonborn, hence why they function a lot like one despite looking different (besides height), but there is one thing i want to add to them (they also can be added to any other race).
The thing im talking about is what i call "Crystal corruption" (for lack of a better name), It is when a creature ends up being born with crystal growths all over them (Or gotten from a deadly virus that didnt kill them, i have a whole explanation on that too but idk if i should explain it). it basically turns them into part glass, since it forces there body (and with some magical aid) to produce more crystals and have them continually shed them like like dead skin cells.
sorry if it all sounds messy, im still trying to refine it. and im also really bad at explaining things (but i will try to explain anyways)
edit: just realized replay and quote dont work the same as i thought?...eh, shouldnt be that bad since im still learning how to use this site more effectively
It sounds interesting and all, but from the looks of it, your race will probably be extremely rare. Maybe you could build that into your character, them trying to find other members of their race and all. Most Perkwunosites will probably think of them as a really short and weird gem Dragonborn, though.
I'll allow it, make a character sheet.

That's fine lol, I didn't really intend on my race being considered rare at all but I can go along with it. also i find it funny how the Perkwunosites will think of her like that. anyways though, thank you
Hello! This sounds really interesting! I'd like to know what you think of this character idea. (If you don't think he fits in your world, I will try to come up with another before applications close. This is an abnormally busy week for me so i just wanted to get something out there lol.) I've played him before and had a lot of fun with him, but sadly that game faded away. So yeah, I do realize that his name isn't from one of the countries that you recommended, but perhaps that can just add to the character? He could be a foreigner.
Name: Shugo Ryu
Race: Mark of the Shadow Elf
Class: Monk/Kensei
Background: Noble
Personality: Most of the time, he is Light hearted and chipper, though he can be utterly serious if he deems it necessary. Won't pass up the chance to take advantage of a situation.
A taste of my RP and his personality:
The young elf sits with his elbows on his knees, and his face in his hands as his amber eyes look over the other three. "Well, this is awkward." He thinks to himself as the group sits in silence while the cramped carriage bounces down the road. Sighing, he figures he should fix that. Taking his face out of his hands, he leans back in his chair and smiles. "Soooooo, are we just going to sit here in silence? Or are we going to introduce ourselves? I'll go first if that makes things better. My name is Shugo Ryu. Pleasure to meet you all." Smiling, he waits for a response.
Shugo grins up at the giant woman but refrains from offering his hand. Yes, it's rude not to do so, but she clearly is having a hard time moving around...and she might crush his hand on accident... Compared to the Goliath, he IS tiny as he is just the average elf after all. He's slim, but clearly fit. And though his clothing bares the wear and tear of travel, it appears to have been made from relatively fine fabric. He wears a simple shirt and baggy pants, with a golden-orange coat. He himself looks only slightly travel worn, and relatively well kept. He has mid-length black hair pulled back in a tight wolf-tail, and bangs partly obscuring his youthful face. Other than the ornate bracers on his forearms, he caries nothing very notable. He has a shortsword at his belt, a small purse, and several darts sheathed in a leather strap that runs from his left shoulder to his right hip.
He cocks his head as the half-orc next to him speaks up, then shrugs. "Dunno, never really thought of it before. It's just common courtesy I guess. Heh, and I find most people I meet to be interesting at least at first." Catching Huzar's eye as the half-orc examines him, the elf's smile never breaks even when the other man looks away. Yes, this is interesting. These are all interesting people. Surely this adventure can only get more interesting from here. This half-orc has clearly been through a lot, not to mention there is a literal giant sitting across from him. What secrets do they have?
Turning his attention to the last passenger, Shugo's smile gets slightly wider. He's not the shortest person here. Thank goodness. He laughs as Miko asks her question, and a flash of mischief glints in his eyes. "What path do I walk. Haha! That is family secret my dear! My family holds their knowledge very close, so I'm afraid I can't tell you!" He leans forward again, hands on knees, and quickly fires a return question. "May I ask where you studied? Is this...Way of the Four Elements a common art where you are from?"
Backstory:
Seventh son to an extremely wealthy and powerful noble, Shugo never really had the chance to inherit the title, he was also never really viewed as anything special nor did he receive as many privileges as his elder siblings. That's fine with him though, so long as he's fed he doesn't particularly care if he inherits even a shred of his parent's power.
For most of his life, all that's been required of him has been that he trains his mind and body so he can protect the next head of the family. Problem is, he doesn't really think to highly of his eldest brother Kozu...or the second son Ryzo. Both of them clearly think way to highly of themselves and he's sure neither of them would make good leaders. (On top of that, they don't seem to like their younger brothers hanging around...) Why didn't his father see that? The old man seems to only see those two as potential candidates for his seat. Though he is smart enough to at least give them some kind of test... He's asked them to find some sort of new knowledge that the family can use, though by 'new' he's including ancient forgotten arts or artifacts. Now how does that make sense? No matter, this test has given Shugo a plan.
Out of all his siblings, his third eldest sister Akari, is the only one he see's fit to rule. She has a kind heart, a strong will, and a good sense of justice. Unfortunately, she is not strong in body. In fact, she can hardly escape the confines of her room. ...That is where he comes in. If he can find some new knowledge or power, then he can give it to her, and SHE could be the head of the family. Then, if she needs protection, she'd have him. With her in charge, he wouldn't have to worry about his family falling apart, plus he knows she'd always give him a place to stay.
Now all he has to do is find something to impress his old man... it's been seven years since he shared his plan with Akari, received her approval and set off on his quest. He's made great progress in his training... at least, he thinks he has...but little to none on finding anything to get him any closer to his goal. That is, until he heard rumors of some newly found human ruins in Perkwunos...
What he thinks is in the ruins: Shugo's not really sure what could be in the ruins. He's just hoping there's something there that will appease his father. Though a wish spell might be nice...then he could wish for his sister to be strong and healthy...

Accordingly they told her to spread her wings and centure through the lands.

Name: Eero
Class and Subclass: Fighter - Rune Knight
Background: Mercinary Vet.
Personality: Overall, Eero is a pragmatic and courageous adventurer with a strong sense of loyalty and a commitment to the greater good. His experiences and age have shaped him into a reliable and experienced member of any adventuring party.
Backstory:
What object do they think is inside the human ruin?:
Eero believes that inside the human ruin in Far North Perkwunos, there may be a relic or artifact of great historical significance.
Appearance:
Eero is an imposing figure, standing well over six feet tall with a powerfully built physique.
Backstory:
Eero's journey as an adventurer began on the day he joined the ranks of mercenaries in Lancea.

Discord play-by-post lover. Hater of westmarches. Just gimme some character driven gameplay please.
If it is on Discord, then I will need to bow out, so let me know.
Name: Venet
Class and Subclass: Glamour Bard
Background: Entertainer

Discord play-by-post lover. Hater of westmarches. Just gimme some character driven gameplay please.

I don't think that's discords fault, games fall apart all the time. Just has to do with the people in the game.

It's utterly disappointing when that happens. Here's hoping this time around goes more smoothly!

I have the backstory updated.
ahh, got it.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
