Bennett smiles at Ashley, "A trained medic is always a need, my friend. Quite contrary to popular belief," he leans in close and lowers his voice "adventuring is dangerous work." He chuckles and starts to look around the tavern, casually observing.
9Perception to see if there is anything bizarre or out of the ordinary.
You notice little of importance. Tables are loitered with new and seasoned adventuerers, clustered in their groups. The workers from the bar slowly filtering out as some are drunker than other are hoisted away by their companions. A tall dragonkin towers over a young half elven girl. The long table in the corner is cleaned up and can seat your party and more.
((Does it look like the Dragonkin is giving the half-elven girl a hard time? Or just casual conversation? My 9 Perception roll was awful! LOL. My only two rolls so far is a Nat20 and then a Nat8 lol))
The dragonkin seems to be be dothing of the sort to her but just talking, his height was noted as he sat down he was 5'10".
Bennett tilts his head to Crispy and gives a sad look. "I-I'm sorry... I have no words... I have no idea what the pain you felt like was." he smiles softly "Looks like you're better off now anyway, right?" he raises his drink to clink with yours.
She clinks the glass. “I really dont know..” She says, uncertain. “I truly feel broken inside, and I dont have many friends. Adventuring, I suppose, helps keep my mind clear so the demons dont come up. There is plenty you still dont know about me. Most of it isnt good.”
He takes a sip and sets his drink down. "I think everyone has their own form of dark side, including myself even. A lot of people hold dark secrets that they hope will never find the light of day. I won't push you about it any longer. You said you were in the military, are you still in it? On leave?"
“It’s alright. You might as well try and know me if were taking this job. No, the reason I became an adventurer is because I was terminated and exiled for bad behavior and getting my partner killed. I used to be in a special forces unit that took on security threats that local law enforcement couldnt or wouldnt handle. I acted above the law, we bribed, extorted, murdered..I lost my partner when we pushed around the wrong crime lord. Thats when my professional life went to shambles. My personal life? Many years before that.”
She shakes her head and chuckles, sighing deeply.
”I know deep down im good. I trying to get my life back together. The dry wit, the sass and sarcasm, other bad things..they come out and im trying..struggling..to control it. Its like theres a beast inside me..an anger built up from a lifetime of abuse and bad choices.”
Bennett's brow raises. "Special forces, eh? Interesting. I was in special forces too. Only difference between you and me is you got discharged," takes a sip and sighs "and I deserted. I couldn't take the heinous orders, the horrible sights I've seen. What drew the line was when my unit was ordered to scout out a cave, easy enough right? Wrong." he leans in "Turns out there was a lot of enemies in that cave, we decided to turn around and report back. As we were leaving, I slipped and fell off an out-cropping overlooking the encampment, luckily it wasn't that far of a drop... but I fell... hard. The noise alerted the encampment, and before I- no WE knew it, we were surrounded." Bennett sighs and shakes his head and looks down into his glass. "Watching them murder my friends and comrades, I closed my eyes and prayed, to anyone that would listen, to make this end. Turns out someone, or something listened. Something inside me awoke, I had gifts bestowed upon me by some power... at least... that is my theory." He chuckles and smiles a bit "Sounds dumb, I know. If you don't mind, I'd rather not talk about it right now. Maybe some other time." He cautiously looks around the tavern at the other patrons.
Belzin puts the finishing touches on his pack and strolls beside the group. "So, Goblins and Gems today, Pirate Battles and Desserts tomorrow?" He gives a nod and a grin, obviously uncomfortable with all of the intamacy going on...
I stayed as long as i had too myself. I came to understand the necessity of violence. I don't think ill ever like it, but at least now the choices of who lives and who dies is in my hands and not someone who only sees the military ID#s. Ashley will order a milk with honey from the waitress I grew up poor, and enlisting helped me leave that life. I thank The Morning Lord i don't have any serious scars from my old life.

Excuse me. Its getting late so I'm going to get a room and retire for the evening. Ashley approaches Marav. Hello, who do i see about renting a room for the night ?
The old dwarf lady behind the bar jabs her thumb to herself, "That'd be me then." She leans forward to the girl, "There be three kinds of rooms here, we got plenty of single beds back around the bar going for 5 gold a night. Double beds upstairs, though we only got about 4 left up there, go for 25 gold a night. And for a cheap stay, the basement, straw mats and no privacy, but will cost you a silver."
"Some Apple pie and good Ale please!" It took some time Cork to decide as he is not used to noisy places
The little girl nods her head and ducks into the bar's backroom, a few minutes later she returns with a plate of apple pie and a mug of ale. The platter a bit too big for her as she walks to your side once more. She places the platter onto a nearby stool as she places the plate of apple pie in front of the dragonkin along with the ale. She takes the platter and holds it up to you, "5 silver please." She asks as she looks to you with big soft eyes boring onto you.
Belzin puts the finishing touches on his pack and strolls beside the group. "So, Goblins and Gems today, Pirate Battles and Desserts tomorrow?" He gives a nod and a grin, obviously uncomfortable with all of the intamacy going on...
That’s about the size of it, says Hatt to Belzin, taking another swig of ale. To Gnome’s Rock, was that it? I don’t really know many places around the city – I’m still pretty new here. I guess it’s not too far?
Hatt glances over to Crispy and Bennett, a little taken aback by what they had said. He thinks to himself: The way they both spoke. So matter-of-fact. If only I knew a spell that would heal such things, but I don’t know if such a thing exists. At least they’re both open about what happened to them – that has to be a good thing, right?
Turning his gaze back to Belzin, he says I’d be happy to come along to help clear out a mine. I’ll be up at sunrise, and ready to go, if we’re going. And ‘Tall-y McLegs’ was pretty funny.
And with that, Hatt downs the last of his ale, heads to the bar and purchases a luxurious straw mat in the basement for 1 silver. He feels excited: Finally, a group is forming... I think? Sort of. After a week of hanging around this place, this is the best chance yet. He glances sadly at the notice board as he passes, thinking of all the notes about missing people, and he says a short prayer under his breath. But I'm sure all the gnomes in Gnomes' Rock will be happy to get their mine back. That's if the people at Gnomes' Rock are indeed gnomes. Maybe it's a village of half-orcs? Musing on the more weirdly-named places he's travelled through, Hatt heads down to the basement for the night.
Aurelia had kicked back and just listened to what the rest of them were saying. She had already disclosed the information about the sea voyage, so she was content to stay silent. The athmosphere around the table was nice, despite the dark topics Bennett and Crispy aired. She was happy they did so, though. Nothing could eat you up from the inside out quite like dark memories left unsaid.
"Then we've got ourselves an adventure, have we not." Aurelia smiled and straightened up in her seat. "I hope to see you all tomorrow."
With that she headed towards the bar, bought herself a fine straw mat in the basement and went down. Once there she spotted Bennett and flashed him a smile. "What a day, yeah? I hope the rest of the posts on that board won't stay untouched for too long." The triton had long reconciled with the heavy feeling she got whenever she left the board, happy she could help some, but disappointed she couldn't aid everyone. However, that was life. She corrected the position of her greataxe when she laid down, struggling a moment before finding a comfortable position.
Gasp, as he's known to some of the others listens intently to the stories of the former soldiers. Finally, when it's all said and done for the night, he will mimic something Crispy said way before going into her past "Interesting story..." He gives Ashley a nod and squawks out "Medic!" before standing. Gasp gives everyone at the table a gentle nod and then pays a single silver piece for a stay in the basement. It's all he would need, really.
As Crispy listened to Bennett's past, they shared some more final comments about personal demons and life's experiences. Not wanting to scare off the group on the first day they met, she changes the subject, thanks them all for their company, expresses interest in the journey tomorrow, and wishes them goodnight.
She heads to the bar, and pays the money to rent a one bed room upstairs. She puts her belongings down, and unstraps her armor until she's in something to sleep comfortably. She took a moment to think to herself about how this group had promise, and none of them wanted to beat her up immediately. She laid in bed until her eyelids got heavy, but spent too much time thinking about the conversation she had with Bennett and the others - and how she wished her life was different instead of full of fear, violence, and anger.
Eventually, she fell asleep, and that's when the nightmares began.
Darkness everywhere, i’m in a rolling grass field as far as the eye can see in every direction. Theres a city in the distance, I can see it, I can reach it if I run fast enough. But I can’t, I’m running in slow motion and I look down, i’m only 7 or 8 years old - weak, little, and scared. I look up at the stars and the formations are different than what I’m used to. Where am I? My father is in the distance with his club that he uses to beat my mother and I with, he is a completely black shape of menace and horror and i’m scared out of my soul, I scream and try to run away but no matter how hard I try he comes slowly closer and closer. I panic, a feral panic that consumes me, transforms me into someting like a wild animal, and I’m horrified, screaming in fear. Right when he is on top of me raising his club to once again break my bones I wake as if someone electrified me.
Bennett tilts his head to Crispy and gives a sad look. "I-I'm sorry... I have no words... I have no idea what the pain you felt like was." he smiles softly "Looks like you're better off now anyway, right?" he raises his drink to clink with yours.

Would you all like to rest for the night? The midnight hour draws close and your goblin job only lies a few hours away.
Bennett smiles, "That is nice you have something to believe in. I used to worship a god, but since that night I don't much anymore."
((Another long day at work today/tomorrow. Won't be able to post. Just assume I follow the group wherever they go lol))
EDIT: Just saw your post, Virst. I think a rest would be perfect timing!
