Like the famous drow Drizzt Do’Urden, many people who come to Ten-Towns are outcasts, fugitives, or pariahs in search of a place where they can be tolerated, if not accepted. Some came here determined to make their fortunes. Others come for the solitude, or to escape notice and stay out of the reach of the law of the southern cities. Today, four hundred years after the formation of Ten-Towns, most folk are here because they were born here, grew up here, and expect to die here. They’re fishers, loggers, miners, hunters, trappers, furriers, and traders accustomed to the harsh climate, the slow pace, and the isolation. Like the hardy lichens and determined reindeer of the tundra, residents endure and do what’s needed to survive.
Icewind Dale has few trees, so lumber is cut from the slopes of the Spine of the World or the depths of the Lonelywood Forest. Stone from the hills and valleys surrounding Kelvin’s Cairn supplements wood as a building material in Ten-Towns. Homes have sharply pitched roofs to prevent snow from accumulating on them.
The people of Ten-Towns wear layers of woolen clothing often topped off with fur cloaks. Under these heavy clothes and cloaks, one resident looks very much the same as another. Outdoors, it’s hard to tell the people of Ten-Towns apart—and easy for clever monsters to hide in their midst.
We will be using the "Cold-Blooded Killer" adventure hook. After looking at your backgrounds, it's the one that works best.
Just another gruesome day in Ten-Towns: howling wind, bitter cold, foul tempers, and snowdrifts big enough to bury a herd of moose. But today the local tavern is abuzz with news about a series of recent killings. Before the murders, the only question on everyone’s mind was, “Will summer ever return to Icewind Dale?” Now the question is, “Will I be the killer’s next victim?” Nothing breeds fear and paranoia like a murderer with no face.
Three cold-blooded murders have been committed in the past month: a halfling trapper in Easthaven, a human shipbuilder in Targos, and, three days ago, a dwarf glassblower in Bryn Shander. Each victim was found with a dagger of ice through the heart.
What’s the connection? The drunken lot huddled in the tavern offers no credible ideas, but sitting apart from them is an elderly shield dwarf with a nasty scar across her nose who looks like she has something worth knowing. She’s been smoking her pipe and eyeing you ever since you walked in.
You will be starting in Bremen.

Four things I hate in D&D: People who think the tarasque is the most powerful (an empyrean or kraken can beat it), players trying to seduce bad guys (it's funny though), when a monster roles a NAT 20 (everyone hates that), rolling a NAT 1 (everyone hates that)
Juliet Wildcut can only stare back at the dwarf over her bowl of hot... whatever this is that the tavern master decided was worth her coin when she asked for 'warm soup' after coming in. She was used to bring seen as an outsider this far north but this smoking dwarf was giving her a lot of looks for someone just eyeing an unfamiliar stranger.
In Dwarvish, she asks the woman "Have I offended you in some way, madam?"
As she does, she looks over the gathered crowd, hoping to see some warrior amongst the trappers and fisherman she's seen since she's entered Breman.
The woman responds in dwarsh. "The name's Hlin" she says, and falls silent.
(Before we continue, the characters should introduce themselves to Hlin)

Juliet takes the mug and pushes aside her meal. "Very kind of you," she says to the leonin who brought the drink. "I'm Juliet Wildcut. Nice to meet you." She raises the mug up her lips and drinks it down heavily, listening to the halfling ask his question.

I'm investigating a series of murders in ten towns. My main suspect is a sell-sword named Sephek Kaltro. He works for a small traveling merchant company called Torg's. Although the company itself seems legit, but the owner, Torrga Icevein is pretty shady. Sephek travels with her. That saying, he gets around easily. From what I've heard, he's handy with sword and dagger.
There are three towns that sacrifice people to the Frostmaiden every new moon. His victims come from each of those towns. I suspect they cheated the sacrifice lottery, and he found out and punished them. In other words, Sephek is working with the Frostmaiden, so he's not a good guy.
After following the company for a tenday, I noticed a couple things about Sephek. Most notably, how comfortable he is in cold weather. No coat, no scarf, no gloves. Almost like he had been blessed by the Frostmaiden.
I'll pay 100gp each for you to apprehend him. I don't care if you kill him. Do what you need. Just try not to involve authorities. I'll pay you each 25gp upfront, then the rest after you finish the job. Do we have a deal?

Korfer was about to order something hot to heat up his poor frozen fingers when he hear the shouting and the old woman response.
He think to himself "Hlin? Was it not the name of the young fair lady in one of father's song?"
He completly forget about the drink and go strait to the woman
"Sorry madam! You said your name was Hlin? Did you by any chance ever heard of the great Korfer?"
