(This will be a level 3 campaign). In the world, many strange things are happening, such as famines in certain areas, and rivers bursting into fire. 6 people have also gone missing. People believe that these seven people have been possesed by 6 of the 7 princes of hell, each representing one of the 7 deadly sins, accept for sloth(for now). You have a been called to the adventure by a mysterious man, by the name of Lu. (This will be a semiregular campaign, with pauses which could span from 1 day, to a week. I will only be taking 4 people.)
What kind of setting details do you have? (Wondering in terms of an appropriate race/class combo and possible backstory tie-ins to why they're on the quest.) And are you thinking combat heavy, roleplay heavy, or a mix?
Clearly the seven princes of hell didn't take the people. If it was them, there'd be 6 people missing as Sloth would be going to get around to it someday.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Liarin: Against the Cult of the Reptile God Adewild: Shadows and Light 2 Brother Thaddeus: Rime of the Frostmaiden.
Mostly in villages on earth, some walking through forests, and a little bit of stuff in hell at the end. It will be a decent mix, no race/class combos in particular, although I think any tiefling could be cool to work in. Everyone accepted a quest, based on a letter they got. Some backstory tie ins could be, one of the 7 princes of hell cursed your character, or if you are a tiefling, maybe one of them is your dad.
Rin was an orphan surviving on the streets when she picked the pocket of the wrong person. Or maybe it was the right person. In any case, when the wizard whose pocket she picked caught up with her, instead of punishing her, he hired her as a maid. While being a maid was a lot of work, it came with 3 meals a day and a warm place to sleep, MUCH better than life on the streets. Best of all, the wizard let her read his magic books, and would even give her pointers from time to time. She started using magic to help with her work as a maid. When she became an adult the Wizard sent her on her way, telling her that she was the best apprentice he ever had, but she was a full fledged wizard now, and it was time for him to start looking for a new apprentice.
Rin is now a full fledge conjuring wizard. But she also has a range of mundane skills. She's a good cook, able to infuse magic into the meals and treats she makes. Also she still has the skills she learned as a urchin on the streets, able to pick locks or pockets.
With her inclination to ask questions and her inclination to help others, this is not something she can just leave to others.
Edit: Just noticed that background details aren't visible on the character sheet. So here's the background elements:
Background: Urchin Alignment: Neutral Good Personality Traits: I'll start cleaning without even realizing it.I ask a lot of questions. Ideals: People: I help the people who help me — that’s what keeps us alive. Aspiration: I’m going to prove that I’m worthy of a better life. Bonds: I owe a debt I can never repay to the person who took pity on me. Flaws: If I’m outnumbered, I will run away from a fight.
Well, this was before JSenecal posted. So could go with another idea, but
Name: Tempus Retrovios Race: High Elf Class: Wizard (School of Evocation) Background: Sage Sheet: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/119736615/lf6DNu Backstory: Tempus is a young sage, still hot-headed with adventure in mind. In the wake of such strange occurrences happening across the land, he delved into his studies and was delightfully surprised when he saw Lu's letter. The young elf leapt at the opportunity and is ready to delve into the unknown.
So, to have another option instead of a second wizard,
Name: Cherry Littleoak Race: Lightfoot Halfling Class: Warlock (The Archfey) Background: Haunted One Sheet: //todo Backstory: Cherry has not had a good time ever since the occurrences began. Her village got caught up in one of the famines and left her as the only survivor. In her despair she fled to the woods where she came across a fey that also wanted to put an end to the disasters and made a pact, granting her powers as a Warlock. Now that's she's received a letter from Lu, there's a promise that she may be able to exact vengeance upon those that caused her suffering.
As a query: Is there any additional equipment into the basic starting gear? (Wondering in terms of things like minor upgrades such as leather to studded leather.)
Raya was brought up inside the Emerald Enclave (or a similar organization in your setting) by her mother, a high Elf. She is fiercely loyal to the order and had gotten wrapped up in recent problems when she was sent on a mission to investigate a flaming river and wound up being blamed by the townsfolk. She eagerly looks at the letter from Lu as a way to get answers.
Alignment: C/N Name: Ander Goodfellow Equipment: short sword, short bow, burglars pack, leather armor, 2 daggers, thieves tools
Ander was an orphan running in the same circles as Rin. at an early age, they became allies, and eventually even friends. Ander had just begun to rely on Rin's accountability when she "went clean" and disappeared. since then, he developed his skills and life as a criminal. got in with the criminal underground of the town, and took up a speciality in blackmailing. Ander had a knack for finding and coaxing out the juiciest details of the deepest darkest secrets of some of the most prestigious individuals around town. And he would use those details as leverage to get what he wanted. He calls it "Orienting the path of destiny in my favor". His charisma and skill earned him a modest lifestyle in the city, and he is well known as a philanthropist and self help public speaker.
Personality traits:
• I would rather make a new friend than a new enemy.
• I’m loyal to my friends, not to any ideals, and everyone else can take a trip down the Styx for all I care.
• I will become the greatest thiefthat ever lived.
• I have a “ tell” that reveals when I'm lying. (I'll mistakenly say the word "Bluff" somewhere in my sentence"
Arch: Ander never got the opportunities most people are born with. now that he has established so much for himself, he will either fight for it or risk it all as he orients himself to a new era and new PCs.
Hello there. Here's my character: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/120140345/siKNr0 My plan is to go with fighter for the firsts 2 levels, then go as a wizard all the way up. I chose a tiefling tormented by the prince of Wrath.
So if everyone is accepted, we have 2 humans, 2 tieflings, and an elf or halfling.
Also we have 4 spell casters out of 5, for a very magic rich party. But limited on vanguards and healing (just ranger and chief). Once we level up Rin can take the Healer feat to keep help keep us going (she's more a support wizard than a blaster wizard).
But this is a great team for figuring out what's going on. I'm looking forward to this game :-)

Level 1 DM.
I'm not going to be taking any more players past this point

A reminder that this campaign is starting at level 3, so you can add two more levels to your character (the fighter/wizard).
Yeah, do that
So are we all in? Or do you still need to select who you want in the game? What's next?
I DMd them directly, everyone who submitted characters is in, and they want us to create actual characters and post in thread
sorry if that was unclear, I don't do play by post too often.

final character!

Got Tempus in my sig. (Will shift it over to the campaign once that's made.)
