(OOC @DracheLehre: There is no alchemical components table. I was just describing that Cato, being a professor and all, was able to determine that the gas was manufactured from alchemical components. Also, your post above will have to count as your next turn, as you have already taken your turn during this round).
Neya: You start looking through your herbalism kit but are unaware of what concoction to put together to counteract this specific poison.
Cato: The spear goes in by half an inch. Nothing happens. As you remove it, you come to the realization these holes seem to be made to house something.
(OOC @DracheLehre: There is no alchemical components table. I was just describing that Cato, being a professor and all, was able to determine that the gas was manufactured from alchemical components).
Neya: You start looking through your herbalism kit but is unaware of what concoction to put together to counteract this specific poison.
(Asley, Drazzim, Graxx, Utar, Cato, and Rag are up).
(OOC: Yeah, I completely misread that sentence, so you can disregard that part. I deleted that last move I just posted a moment ago since I essentially went twice in one round at that point, I guess the "surprise" round screwed with my head.)
Asley: Upon closer examination, you notice that the five gems Drazzim found seem to be cut and shaped in such a way that they would fit the holes in the larger carvings, but not the ones in the smaller carvings. Each of the large carvings has one of these holes somewhere in the pictures, and they are all the same size and shape, just like the gems. Cato just happened to be poking the carving with the lady digging her feet into the sand. The hole in that carving was placed where her feet and the sand meet.
Utar tears off a section of his tabbard below his belt and moving between the small holes emitting gas, tears off a section of cloth and stuffs it into the hole, attempting to block it up to stem the flow of the gas.
OOC - I'm not sure how many holes I'll bring up with one action, but it's all I can think that Utar would do.
(OOC: The "dice manipulation" is due to adding new rolls into a post between ones already there. You can add new rolls to the post, but only after other rolls, since the RNG I believe is based on roll order in the post; i.e. Roll #1, roll #2, roll #3. If you add a new roll inbetween them, the RNG will change for all subsequent rolls.)
Drazzim looks to the gems. "Aye, there's five coloured stones here. Perhaps they're part of the puzzle."
Religion check to see if Drazzim can put 2 and 2 together with the colours. He is a little dim... Religion:13
Utar: Ripping his tabbard, the half-orc manages to quickly plug three of the nine holes pouring poison gas into the room. The southern wall still has six other holes functioning properly. You gather this has the potential of buying you some time, but there are many more holes to go.
Drazzim: Calling on recent experience with dragons (fake red dragon egg, black dragon scales in Cato's shield, potential bones of a green dragon) and what you have learned about the Cult of the Dragon, the dwarf puts together that the five gems' colors seem to correspond with those of the evil chromatic dragons worshiped by the Cult.
Graxx: Hearing Drazzim's conclusion and seeing him holding out the gems for the rest of the group to see, Graxx grabs the red ruby and rushes to one of the carvings. The gem fits perfectly within a hole in the 'roaring fire' depiction of one of the carvings. A satisfying clicking sound is heard by all and gas stops pouring from the western wall.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rag: The halfling places the white diamond in the hole at the top of the snow-covered mountain. Another satisfying click sound is heard and gas stops leaking from the southern wall. As it stands, gas is still coming from the northern wall and from inside the sarcophagus.
CRYPT'S TURN
CON saving throws {DC 12} for all:
Asley: CON saving throw: 13; Damage: 3 poison. Cato: CON saving throw: 20; Damage: 4 poison. Drazzim: CON saving throw: 22; Damage: 4 poison. Graxx: CON saving throw: 19; Damage: 2 poison. Neya: CON saving throw: 18; Damage: 3 poison. Rag: CON saving throw: 9; Damage: 4 poison. Utar: CON saving throw: 1; Damage: 2 poison. Brother Keefe: CON saving throw: 1; Damage: 4 poison.
(Asley, Drazzim, Graxx, and Rag saved successfully. Everyone else, please take the poison damage detailed in the spoiler box above into account in your character sheets).
Brother Keefe: continuing his investigation of the sarcophagus, the Kelemvorite adds "There are scrape marks on the floor around the sarcophagus. I think... I think it means it can move." He proceeds to push the sarcophagus, but his efforts are for naught.
Seeing that blocking the gas emitting holes with cloth will take some time, Utar sighs and mumbles a quiet prayer to Torm, urging him to protect those here within the tomb.
Seeing the success the group are having with the gems, he will take the blue gem from the sarcophagus and places it into the large painting of the thunderstorm.
Asley grabs the green gem and runs over to the snake painting. Before placing it in the hole he thinks “if i was an evil jerk building an evil trap in an evil way, I would make it so that just when any dungeoneers thought they’d figured out the puzzle, one of the gems (probably the poison one) would actually end up spilling more poison into the room just to mess with them. Gods I’m happy I’m not a jerk. Well, whatever.”
Utar: After finishing his short prayer, Utar places the blue sapphire into the indentation at the point of a lighting strike in the thunderstorm. With that, no more gas is spilling out from within the sarcophagus. Brother Keefe, looking a bit rough from breathing the poison in, seems relieved.
Asley: The dragonborn realizes the green emerald fits into the indentation on the fang of the poisonous snake, stopping the gas supply to northern wall. The hissing sounds stop completely, but the room remains sealed such that whatever gas has accumulated inside is still likely to affect you. "Evil jerks indeed!.... cough cough," says Brother Keefe struggling with the impure air within the crypt.
Graxx: Pushing on the sarcophagus, you can tell that Brother Keefe is right. This structure probably does move but even with your help it is not doing so at the moment. It is quite heavy.
As Neya picks up the black gem and inserts it into the mural with the vials, she says to Asley, "I suppose we now have some insight as to what to look out for if you were to go mad. But my teacher always said to never apply logic to madness, it's a waste of everyone's time."
Neya: Once the black opal is placed in the depiction of a large, bubbly vial, a louder mechanical sound is heard instead of the clicks you’ve gotten so far. The grinding of gears begin, and a few moments later, as if no help from Graxx or Brother Keefe were needed, the sarcophagus moves toward the western wall. This reveals a secret, winding staircase leading deeper into the crypt.
The door on the eastern wall, the one you all came through to begin with, unseals and the gas dissipates. You feel there is no longer an immediate danger of suffocating.
Brother Keefe, gasping and horrified, says “I wish you luck adventurers. I have had my fill of dungeon delving already. I’ll leave this to the experts. Once you are done, you can find me at the temple.”He will then linger a moment in case any of you have anything to say, but will otherwise head back to his abode to recuperate. The poison did quite a number on him.
"Well that was an interesting start. How's everyone doing? Do we need to take a moment to rest and breathe some clean air, or are we chomping at the bit to continue down the ominous winding staircase to our next fun surprise? The poison seems to have missed me entirely, but I'm happy to do whatever the party needs."
Cato will try to stick the point of one of his spears into one of the holes.
