THE HISTORY OF THE ETERNAL WAR
Atlas has always been a continent divided. When the first ancestors of the great races rose from the primeval mud, the gods fought to claim them as their own. Some races fell under the sway of the dark gods, such as the orcs, goblins, and giants, while others were embraced by the gods of light, such as the humans, halflings, elves, and dwarves. Driven by their respective gods, the legions of darkness and the army of light fight for dominance in a land of blood. Centuries of unceasing warfare has left little opportunity for technological advancement, and cities are few and far between. The majority of Atlas' population reside in and around castles and strongholds for maximum protection. One can scarcely travel a dozen miles without sighting an army encampment, and children battle with wooden swords before they can even walk. Razed villages and leveled towns stand grim testament to the terrible cost of war. When the dust settles and the smoke clears, only one side will claim victory.
In the Recruitment and News Thread, you will find the Hall of Heroes, Casualties of War, Recruitment Notices, and the latest news from the War Letters.
Ganathor, taking the group along the edge of the treeline, manages to slip on a patch of ice, making a few white hares run off from their previously unseen hiding spots in the snow. Nothing stirs deeper within the forest, and after a few moments, you can ascertain that it's probably safe to keep moving.
Ganathor leads the party up a slight incline that eventually reaches a height at which the ground is level with some of the treetops. In the far off distance, you can see a large cloud rolling in, bringing with it the promise of snow.
As Venture is going about his business in the camp, he spots a group of about 10 people heading out into the tundra. Asking about it reveals that the group is heading off to find the orc camp, and that they were taking anyone who wanted to go with.
Once outside the walls and on the trail, Guthric separates from the group, but stays near the front of the pack. On open ground, wolves on the hunt did best to spread out to seem larger and see more land.

Being on the move, with a righteous purpose, gives Xerlax an extra boost of energy. The cold air and snow reminds him of home, and from time to time he’s will hold up his warhammer, look at the worn runes as if expecting something to happen. Every once in a while he drags it in the snow, letting the ice crystals collect and then fall to the ground.
Venture rushes back and hastily grabs his pack, then slips out the front gates, moving quickly across the snowy ground, attempting to catch up with the party. He draws his cloak tightly around him, feeling to ensure that his rapier and flute are still safely fastened at his belt. He heads toward the forest, following the tracks in the snow and looking to catch up to the rear of the scouting expedition.
Wilfred wasn’t one for idle chat, and spent much of the march in silence. For the past dozen or sonminutes though, he seemed to hear some sound in the distance, and when he glanced back was convinced he saw a creature moving through the forest, in their tracks. As he strained his hearing, he thought he heard the breath of whoever was following them. Waiting a couple more moments to be certain, he eventually turned to Ganathor.
” Hey, big one. Don’t wanna alarm ya, but seems we ain’t alone nonmore. Som’thin’s been followin’ us for the last mile or so. I’d rather we know what it is, before night hits. How ‘bout we make ready at the next turn in the path and question the creature, or fight it?”
As he says that, Wilfred’s eyes are already scanning the treeline, half to determine the best place for their ambush, half to see whether others were out there, ready to fall on them.
Here’s a Perception or Survival check, if necessary (it’s the same modifier, so same result). 15

Ganathor, hearing Wilfred and Quoren's warnings, puts away his handaxes, sits down crosslegged, and begins to open the leather case on his back. To them he says, "If we're being followed it's best to take care of it now rather than later. Let's give them one chance and if they flunk we'll cut them down." From it he produces an elegant flute, silvery and shining. It's nothing special, but it is well cared for.
After giving the group time to make some preparations in case of a fight, he begins to play a short song, quietly, filled with high trills and an upbeat melody and casts minor illusion twice, first to create the sound of rustling leaves behind the group and second to create the image of a human soldier crawling on the ground as though looking for something.
Guthric watches the scene unfold and rejoins the others, still bow in hand. "We need to get off the path." The large man scans the surrounding area, looking for any disturbance.

Seeing as going undercover was the order of the day, Kalahari stepped into the undergrowth. Unfortunately, the yellows and golds of her sandy form weren't exactly suited to blending in, and she wasn't much good at hiding anyway. Still, she'd give it her best shot. Stealth: 13 She whispered a few things under her breath and dug a small piece of parchment from her bag inscribed with holy runes. She readied the spell Shield of Faith, planning to cast it on Quoren if anything made it past the sleep spell.

As Venture traveled along the path, he arrived at the treeline and began to skirt in the direction of the party. Worried he might be entering orc territory, and traveling alone, he began to try to move quieter to catch up.
Stealth: 23
He moved quietly through the edge of the forest, listening intently for his comrades from the war camp. Drawing close, he heard the faint sounds of what could have been birdsong, but more melodic...perhaps an instrument of some kind? Was that...a flute? Venture reached for the leather pouch at his waist (perhaps he could answer the song in some way), but as he did, the sound stopped. He saw up along the path, an armored soldier, bent over searching the forest floor for something...He paused for a moment, as something didn't seem right. Where was the rest of the party?

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Oh yeah what do I look like a level 17 bard? That demolishes my puny illusion. Also just a side note, my personal house rule for using minor illusion vs something like silent image is that investigators roll with advantage since it's only a cantrip and since no living thing is perfectly still)
Perception (to contest Venture's stealth and, if I somehow nat 20 this, to check for other hostiles): 18
Venture grins, seeing through the illusion, pulls his pan flute from the pouch at his belt, and plays an echo of the melody he heard before. He casts Minor Illusion to cause a pile of snow to appear to fall on the soldier, then calls out softly, "Hello up there? Fellow soldiers? I merely came to join..."
The closest thing to an orc war camp anyone can see is a few wisps of smoke from deep, deep within the forest, almost on the other side. Nothing seems to be in the immediate area.
[Y'all are really keeping this going without my interference. I'm just answering a few questions here before letting you all go back to doing your thing.]
@LunaticKnight : What is the time of the day? I think I remember the last battle taking place in the evening, but I can't find the exact mention again. Quoren has darkvision 60ft, if necessary.
[I honestly don't know either. For convenience's sake, let's say that you all have had the chance to rest and it's been about a day since, so we'll call it about midday.]
Guthric draws an arrow and calls to the new voice, "Come into the open, then!"
