Fope knows he struck true with his scimitar - it felt as good as any blow he has delivered in his life! - but still, something seems missing, compared to the blows that Kif is landing with his axe.
Lucento turns to Barnaby and outstretches his hand, “The locket, do you have it?!”
If Barnaby has the locket and is willing to pass it, Lucento will present the locket to the demon to discern if the demon reacts positively or negatively to it.
At Lucento’s suggestion, Barnaby will take the locket out and display it to the demon himself allowing Lucento to use gods action as he sees fit. Back fiend! With that bold command Barnaby will take a fearful step back himself
Blue: the demon’s attacks against Kif should have disadvantage because of Barnaby‘s spell.
The shadow creature, clearly poised to make another attack, pauses in its motion and appears to give Barnaby a hard stare. You get no other response, and (spoiler alert) it will still attack this turn.
Lucento squints at the shadow creature. The little girl said that Felix, who by all accounts has always been a little off, got "real creepy" ever since the headmistress took this enchanted locket with celestial carvings away after his fight with Sedrick. Was that just a coincidence? What, if anything, does this locket have to do with this creature's possession of the boy?
Did my exchange with Barnaby count as my action? Also, can I roll an insight check to assess the nature of the "hard stare" without impacting my turn order?

No. Talking like this is a free action. Barnaby confronted the creature with the locket, though, which I am counting as his "action."
It's a creature of shadow. You might guess that it is familiar with the locket, but other than that (and what I wrote, above), you don't get anything extra from the Insight check.
The blast of radiant energy appears to really get its attention. It's mad now!
With a shriek, it flows around and through Fope and Kif, and comes up next to Lucento. It slashes at him with a long, sharp claw! I imagine a 17 hits. If it does, take 8 points of physical damage from the slash, and another 12 points of psychic damage, as you feel the abyss clutching at you through the open wound!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hmmm, next time if you include yourself as one of the targets of the bless spell, you will get to use it on your concentration checks. I have a cleric who also does not include herself in her bless spell, but seeing this, maybe she will from now on.
Barnaby will launch a firebolt at the demon and then step behind the boxes out of site. 8 to hit for 2 damage.
Føpé would like to aim to disable instead of maximize damage. Perhaps slash its eyes to blind, knees to cripple, or something similar. Is that possible? How do the mechanics work?

It’s essentially an alien life form, made of shadow. But you can try! Roll an Investigation check as a free action to see if you can spot a weakness; failing that you will be free to guess as you please.
Mechanically what will happen is that your Investigation check will be to determine the likely effectiveness of various options.
Whatever happens with the check, I will let you target something (knee, whatever, within reason) with an attack at disadvantage. With a hit, you will do normal damage and possibly have some other effect. Or possibly no other effect, depending on the target location and the targeted creature.
Does the demon have any physical connection to the boy, something that can be hacked at?
Ok.
Good question. No.

As for the insight check, go ahead and roll it.
Lucento utters an incantation and a mace of golden light takes shape in his left hand, which he hurls toward the shadow creature: 19 (to hit) 8 (dmg).
Also, insight: 8

Also, Lucento, on top of the 20 damage, make a DC 10 Constitution save or lose concentration on the Bless spell.
Everybody go! But let Lucento make his concentration check first, so you know if you're still under the effect of Bless.
Constitution: 9
