"Renting sounds like the right thing to do, Briga," says Tyrus. "Do ye know of such a place? Would be a right shame to spend a lot of hard-earned coin on something you be only going to wear once in a blue moon."

Briga nods, but does not hide her disappointment well. "Yeah, that's, like, the practical thing to do, Tyrus. For sure. I mean, I'd have to wear something like that all the time to get my coin's worth. And given the way I live, I'd wreck it in like a day or so. Even the rental's risky, actually. Treks through the sewers, bird-man feathers, assorted blood and gore - adventuring isn't easy on a wardrobe."
"Don't be disappointed, lassie," says Tyrus. "Renting means you can try different types of clothes each time. What's good for the oprey, might not be right for a party."

Heading into the trades ward to find somewhere to hire some outfits for the opera, the closest place you can think of where you would be able to get such a thing is Meiroth's Fine Silks, towards the south of the Trades Ward. Heading there, there are a variety of formal dresses, suits, and other costumes for the formal party-goer available for both purchase and rent.
Before leaving for the Trades Ward, Tyrus will go up to his room and pick up some things he has forgotten (e.g., he is now carrying some of the tools from his tinker's toolkit that he could use on locks; i.e., small items he can fit in pockets). He will also leave his handaxe there because from experience he knows that merchants don't like it when customers have weapons. He then joins the others on their 'perilous quest' for formal clothes ;-).
With regard to clothing, Tyrus is not looking for anything gaudy; mostly black, and he doesn't mind if he looks a bit like a waiter (could be useful) or servant (Arlon's perhaps).
However, the clothing he rents has to be loose enough that it will cover his chain shirt and have enough folds and pockets that he will be able to hide both his dagger and component pouch.
[OOC: DM, Is the above possible? How much will it cost to rent? And for how long?]

Briga smiles and holds back a laugh at Griff's bold statement. After all of the intrigue and second guessing, the boldness of his approach seems refreshing to her, and she seems relaxed again, ready to enjoy the moment and a new experience. "Way to go, man. Live your truth. That's right shopkeep, please help my paladin friend here look the part of the gentleman knight he very much is. And I'm looking for some ladies' formal wear for the opera that will fit, uh, my frame. I'll probably have to make mine a rental. Break out the tape measures for a couple of, err, taller citizens here to look swanky."
To her friends, Briga relates, "Now comes the poking and prodding and needles going places they shouldn't. Before I settled on bounty hunting for the city I tried a brief stint as a prize fighter. They want everyone to have these ridiculous costumes and over the top names and stuff. There was a lot of measuring and stuff. Honestly that part seemed more brutal than the pit fights."
"You're right on that one!If they bust out lances, you have my blessing to retaliate, but I think we're safe, Griff," Briga says. "This isn't a spectator sport, Arlon. You and Tyrus need to get boujee, too, this is the opera. The abandoned dragons are all getting their swank on."
"Bah humbug," says Tyrus. "If a fat lady starts to sing, I'm out of there."
I don't think Arlon can help himself howling with laughter. When he catchs his breath several minutes later, tears in his eyes he looks at Tyrus and gasps "Don't do that."
Heading to the tailors, you begin looking or getting outfits made. Thankfully the day is quiet.
"So, looking for something for the opera, darlings?" says the owner, a female halfling, rotund in stature with bright red swollen cheeks. "What your wearing right now will never do. Never, never never," she says as she pulls out the tape measure.
"So, it'll be 5 gold per day of rental, or 15 gold to buy - as I heard some of you are only interested in loaning a piece for the opera ," she says as she starts taking each of your measurements.
"It's a third of the cost to just rent it? That's crazy! And I suppose if the rental gets, say, irreperably damaged, we owe the full cost anyway, right?" Briga questions the shopkeeper. "Guys, I might be better off just buying the thing. If someone can spot me say 10 and some change gold dragons out of our group fund. I promise I'll wear it all the time, like my new default outfit, it won't go to waste. I just can't abide paying 5 gold pieces for a night's rental. No offense, ma'am."
"Unless there's an option to rent with, like, damage insurance. That's the way to go for all of my clothes really. But now I think I'm getting lost in the weeds on this one."
"Ha. Briga don't worry. I've got you covered." Griff pulls out 26gp from his personal pouch. "Here is for my suit and to cover what she doesn't have. Also an extra gold piece in there to really take care of us. Do you think I could get like a cape on mine? That would probably look spectacular, but you know up to you... This ain't my profession."
Briga offers her 6 gold and 4 silver pieces towards the purchase, confirming that any change will go to Griff. "Definitely! If we're paying out the nose then we should go all out. Get this dragon-man a cape. I'll take a dress, fancy as the abyss, with the shoes with the pointy heels and the impractical hosiery and smallclothes and everything. Like the whole package to look like a fancy woman of Waterdeep. Please."
"As the abyss you say? Interesting choice of words madam," the shopkeeper says. "I think I have just the thing. As for your cape, I think I can make it look ravishing - something suitable for a formal event for sure, maybe something to go with those scales of yours. In fact, are you planning to attend as a group, any sort of themes you would like if so? I can certainly make something that represents that you are all together, if that is what you wish - subtle enough, from the sounds of your descriptions, I think black and silver outfits might go very well for you all," she says with a smile as she ducks aside pulling out some samples.
"For you, madam, maybe something like this," she says as she pulls out a black one-piece ankle length dress with a silver trim, flaired out at the bottom. "For you my scaly friend, maybe something like..." and she pulls out a black suit with silver tie and a knee-length cape that can be attached with a string around the neck, or strung onto the suit itself via a button fitting. "Alternatively, if you would like more of a flair," she continues as she pulls out a shoulder cape that comes down to about the waist that would be tied around one shoulder. "As for you," she says turning to Tyrus "I think a charcoal black may make more sense, and should accentunaite," pulling out a very dark grey outfit that is smaller than the others, but suitable for a dwarf, along with a part of the outfit that could easily be tuned to represent symbology of a dwarven clan. "And finally, humans are always easy," and she pulls out a black suit with silver inlay and silver tie. "Of course, if there's anything you want changed in these designs I can do this for you," she says with a friendly smile.

"Renting it is then." Arlon looks at Briga " And if things go well you can always buy the clothes later."
