OOC > Ride it! Psh. What kind of question is that?
"Q'll," she bobs her head in what she hopes is not a dialectic difference that means something bad up here. "I would fly with you. We go looking for a pair of lost mice ones, down mountain, and a shadow without shadow."
["So concerned are you with what moves upon the earth. Poor little groundling- the sky overhead is larger even than you know. I will carry you- my kind remains in your debt- but I must be quick. My people return to the mainland soon, little furred one."]
(Roll a d6, Nissa! This is to determine how well you do on Q'll's back. You need a 5-6 to accomplish what you're after. A 3-4 will get you... something. A 1-2... well, we'll cross that bridge if we come to it)
Mazer respectfully looks at what the grey squirrel is doing, also carefully perusing his work. "There's something wrong in the world, and I need weapons and armor for my unit," explains Mazer forthrightly. "We're not equipped for what we're about to face. For me, I need stronger armor than what I'm wearing now, a sword with more reach, and a ranged weapon. I'll pay whatever it takes." Mazer is not interested in negotiation to pinch pennies. To him, coin is just another tool to be used to fulfill the mission.
Nissa respectfully climbs on Q'll's back, and the scrub jay launches into the air after a few jarring hops. Her paws firmly buried in his neck feathers, she crouches close, scanning the ground and shouting directions to the bird. After a few minutes of flight, they glide over the turn the party made out of the woods and up to Enhara, where they found tracks leading away. Nissa has Q'll land, and dismounts to make sure of her directions, then she climbs aboard again, and they head that way. The sure-eyed bird spots a little smoke hanging in the still air after the storm, and they set down again to find the remains of a small fire, dashed out but still smoldering under the protective slant of a large rock. It looks like Rush found some luck, shelter and dry wood during the storm. But the tracks lead to a rocky scrub and a shale slope, and she loses them.
Back on Q'll's back, they scan the side of the mountain for a long while, with no luck. Still it looked like Rush was headed down, although not back towards home. Perhaps he hoped to reach the coast and work his way back? It would be a long trip, but a sensible plan. Or perhaps he was following something...
With some clues to pass on to Farmer Nodder, Nissa takes the hungry bird back to Enhara, thanking it for the assistance, and promising her resources if the birds of the island ever need her.
It's been a couple of hours, and she'll return to the tavern with her news.

Farmer Nodder just stares at you, wide-eyed but believing as you tell your story. In fact, I think that a small group of town people have gathered around outside of the outpost when you share your tale. A group of small children saw you return on the back of the scrub jay, and they've run to gather perhaps 12-18 people of Enhara to listen in.
A precocious little girl steps forward and asks, "Excuse me, guardmouse. Where did you learn to talk to birds and such?"
I'll pay whatever it takes."
The squirrel is silent for several moments as he finishes his work. "Typically, a guest will introduce himself before telling me what to do," he whispers. His voice is strained- maybe he damaged his throat at some point? As he turns (ponderously), you see that he is heavily muscled and unusually, ah, well-fed for an Enharan and a squirrel. "At any rate, a device for killing I will not make you, Guardmouse- are you not aware of the customs of this place? Surely, a-" His eyes flick to the badge on Mazer's cloak, "A captain of the Guard would have heard of the peace of Enhara."
He swivels his chair and places a kettle over the coals of a brazier. "As to armor, that will take days or weeks, and I sense that you do not have such time." He leans back, crossing his arms over his chest. "So, what are we to do, Captain?"
Nissa remembers to leave her weapons at the door of the tavern before entering to give Farmer Nodder her meager news.
"It is not much, but there were signs that he was well after the storm. I saw no struggle, no indication he is wounded. But I am afraid I do not know with certainty where he was headed, just down mountain from there."
When the girl steps forward, Nissa smiles a little at her bravery, and her use of the office, not one of her nicknames. "The birds and I helped each other in a great struggle some seasons back. I took a great wound," she does not have to indicate her scarred face and ear, "And while I recovered, I was gifted the chance to learn their language. We have a great respect for each other. It is always good to have brave friends, for whom you can also be brave when they need it," and she glances at the other children.

The children stare in awe as Nissa says this. The little mouse child thinks for a moment, then she beckons for your hand and leads you to a corner of the inn while the others mill about and talk to the farmer and Eli. She whispers in your ear, "I saw Ms. Snowbell heading up the mountain last night. I was supposed to be inside what with the light and that loud whiny noise everywhere, but I were on the roof watchin' the storm clouds rolling in. Ms. Bell didn't have her big ol' axe for one; Rimf said it's stuck in the base of the watchtower. All I know if Ms. Bell was heading across the rock field toward Stonegate.
(You've heard the term 'Skygate' to describe all of Enhara, but this is your first time hearing 'Stonegate'. When asked, the little girl explains it is natural stone archway that marks the beginning of a trail up the mountain some distance from here. The path that leads from Stonegate is one of three possible routes to Firewatch: Stonegate (Irrhaso), Skygate (Enhara), and the Lostgate (Byrrunil). Furthermore, Nissa gathers that she tracked Nodder's son, Rush, in the direction of Byrrunil.)
Eli, with Nissa distracted with the little girl, you command all of the attention of the remaining 5-6 children. They are fascinated by your odd garments, your quiet way of speaking, and the truly enormous warclub you've politely kept on the outside porch of the outpost.
The children ask their parents (or don't) if they can play with you outside. You relent, and follow them in a game of hide and seek throughout Enhara. The settlement is not overly large, and you eventually find yourself on the outskirts of town. You've managed to find most of the children (though you suspect that some of them are cheating). The one little mouse you can't find is Hirut, the undisputed games master and de facto leader of the children here (Sense roll: 6). The children slyly suggested you would have won a prize for finding Hirut, but alas, you instead spend the afternoon laughing and playing- and ruefully admitting defeat at the end.
