Name: Oskar Glorenthar
Race: Mountain Dwarf
Class: Ranger (intend to go Gloom Stalker)
Background:
Oskar is small even for a dwarf. Not excessively so, but enough that his clan leaders selected him for the role of the stronghold’s scouts, where he began his training as a ranger in the Underdark. After years of developing his skills he had finally gained the right to be called “ranger” and was part of a patrol as a full member for the first time.
He doesn’t know what the thing they stumbled upon is called, just that it oozed evil, and power. He was one of two survivors and the encounter haunts him still. He left the stronghold in shame, unable to shake the fear that still grips him when he thinks of that day.
I thought about this background with forgotten realms in mind, but it could work also in a custom settings if everything looks good for you. The idea is that my wizard-senpai died while I was assisting him in his tower and all the defenses went crazy. While picking up random notes from his "office" before escaping, I've found a very powerful spell in the wizard senpai room that he was studying which cannot be cast by mortals (the idea was Ioulaum's longevity to live more, which is banned from Mystra because its level is higher than 9). So, during my next normal wizard studies I'm particulary looking for a way to "hack" the system and try to cast the spell anyway.
Left in the care of his ailing grandmother as a toddler by his parents, Caim Mirthbane made his life on the streets, finding ways to survive and provide for the two of them. Caim grew up poor in a rundown shack, until at the age of 10, his grandmother died from her illness. Even as a boy, Caim had an uncanny proficiency with weapons and fighting, especially when it came to the bow. Those talents led him to an alliance with a street gang of adolescent rogues called The Lifters. Where most of the group were pickpockets and burglars, Caim grew into the role as the muscle -- a role he relished as the protector of the unwanted, riff raff of the streets.
Caim's fighting styles, while unconventional at best, make him a formidable foe. His knack for battle, though, also has raised a few eyebrows, especially those of the more trained eyes who wonder where the boy's natural talent comes from. Caim has no knowledge as to why his parents left him with his grandmother or of their current whereabouts. His grandmother would simply tell them they had left to chase their delusions of grandeur. Caim's prized possession is his longbow, the one tie that remains of his past. The bow, his grandmother told him, belonged to his father. It is well-made and well-kept. Caim would die before losing it.

Background : Total New player- "Adwater Sable is the name. Adwater is a young man seeking adventure who does not have much life experience; but a cunning drive to defeat evil"
Backstory: Sneaky born in the Underdark - Sneaky is very good at sneaking and stealing. Sneaky wishes to partner up with people now that he has somehow found his way to the city...how? Sneaky doesn't know, just remembers breaking into a magic users shop and falling asleep. Sneaky found himself awake on the street, almost killed by a woodbox dragged by horses. Sneaky would have died if it had not seen him, Sneaky owes his life to the merciful wooden box.
As fishermen, sailors, and traders, Crest’s family has always had a connection to the sea. So when she was born, it was no surprise that she automatically showed an attraction to the water. What was surprising, however, was that the water showed an attraction to her. Within months, her true heritage became clear through her free floating dark blue hair and eyes. Her bond with the seas continued to grow throughout her childhood to her adult life. She proved remarkably apt at sailing. The winds seemed a bit fairer, the water a bit smoother, the animals a bit more friendly whenever she took to the helm. Her skill soon surpassed even her father’s, and she became her family’s link to the sea. However, even her heritage and skill couldn’t keep rough waters away forever. One night, a terrible storm blew the family’s ship into a dangerous reef, sinking the boat. Only Crest, through the elemental blood in her veins, managed to survive. Relatives dead and business ruined, Crest has wandered the past few months, looking for employment and a new place to call home.
Flattery is my preferred trick for getting what I want. I lie about almost everything, even when there’s no good reason to.
Ideals
Independence. I am a free spirit—no one tells me what to do. (Chaotic)
Bonds
A powerful person killed someone I love. Some day soon, I’ll have my revenge.
Flaws
I’m convinced that no one could ever fool me the way I fool others.
An orphan of the streets, Arvel quickly learned that his good looks and silver tongue could allow him to get away with almost anything. A low-level conman, he prides himself on never taking anything that wasn't freely given.
A year ago, he was ready to hang it all up and go straight. Because he'd met Luala and wanted to marry her. On the night he planned to propose, Arvel approached Luala sitting on a stone bench in a park. When he touched her shoulder, she fell to the ground. Her throat had been slashed and her dress was dyed deep red with her blood.
Arvel turned to shout for help but he stopped suddenly. A bloody dagger had mysteriously appeared in his hand. Stunned by this, Arvel didn't hear the approach of the watchmen.
Seized, jailed, and set to be put on trial for murder he sat in his cell weeping over his fate and his lost love.
That's when She appeared. The woman appeared Elven, but was more beautiful than any elf Arvel had ever seen before. The offer was simple, Arvel would be given his freedom and a small measure of power to continue his conniving ways and in exchange he would render Her service when She required.
Seeing no other way out, Arvel accepted and became a Warlock in service to the Archfey woman.
The next morning he was released from prison. The guards explained that a common street thug had come forward and confessed to the murder. Arvel took all he had saved and set out for a life of adventure to escape his pain and grow his power.
I was sold into slavery as a child. Raised to fight in combat sports. It was a rough child hood and I bought my way out as soon as I could. I vowed I would track down those who wronged me and end their reign of terror.

Clan Jalt was one of the few Tymantheran clans who allowed among its members followers of the gods, and some of their number were also members of the Platinum Cadre. The Platinum Cadre was an order of dragonborn knights, paladins and priests from Tymanther sworn to the service of Bahamut. Because they worshiped a dragon god they were outcasts in Thymari society and wasn't uncommon that its members were expelled from their clans because of their beliefs. Jalt Rhogar follows this path, to bring the glory of Bahamut to all lands.
Backstory: "Cork" is a smart one for a kobold. He knew early on to make use of every little bit that he managed to salvage - poison from snakes, oil glands for the large rats and the like could all be turned into something useful. However, he realized that skulking around the sewers wasn't going to make for a long life as half his clutch has already succumbed to the environment by the time he was three. So, he packed up his belongings and made for the nearest town, which turns out to be the one he lived under. On the surface, he found new skills along the shores as a fisherman. So, he discovered a new manner of creatures which provided for new experiments with the creatures he pulled from the water. Now he lives to find the next exciting creation that will blow up in his face.
The background I chose is a homebrew option: Black Sheep.
His backstory is as follows:
Farkur Boondiggles is a gnome, has been a gnome, and always will be a gnome. Gnomes, especially the males from his village, are known for being tinkers — have been and always will be. Farkur doesn't dislike tinkering, per se, but it isn't his passion. Farkur's passion is nature. He loves growing plants and tending to animals. He always has ... and he suspects he always will. From before he can remember, he has been drawn to nature. For all of his years studying to be a tinker, Farkur has also spent lumps of time here and there learning more about nature as much as he can. In fact, he's been known to neglect his duties while pursuing his own desires. The more he is pushed to conform, the harder he pushes back to be his own gnome — learning about the things he wants to learn about. The females in his village learn about magic and the arts. Males are only supposed to be tinkers. Farkur has no interest in living a life which will not making him happy just because he is a male.
A few weeks ago, Farkur's father and mentor sat down with him and told him in a very loving way that he thought Farkur might be happier living somewhere else. Farkur is 74 and plenty old enough to live on his own. He, while a bit disappointed to be pushed out the door, decided to see this as the beginning of a new chapter in his life — the chapter that introduces adventure. Farkur packed his things, said goodbye to his family — everyone from his great-great-grandfather down to his nieces and nephews — and set off east.
I'll be PMing everyone to let you know if you're in. Apologies - obviously there were A LOT of really great submissions and I just couldn't include everyone I wanted to. Thanks for your interest! I hope some of you will follow along with the campaign!
