Maya would rush down the steps, almost skidding down them actually, she’d seem frantic at first, worried she slept in. Spotting a couple of the others, she’d give Kayla a ginger pat on the shoulder if she’s looking rough and then pull up a seat beside the Russian sounding Minotaur. She’d eagerly flag down a staff member for her own serving of breakfast to shovel down alongside him.
Maya would keep her eyes and ears open to the conversations happening around her, but would be keeping her mouth full devouring her meal when it arrives.
As you eat the morning meal the door to The Snapping Line opens, and a human man wearing leather armor marked with a green reed, the symbol of the town guard. A short sword, and a club hang from a broad belt. What draws your attention the most is that where the lower half of his right leg used to be, is an intricately carved wooden peg leg. The man scans the room, his gaze settles on the Party. He makes his way over to you. "Where were all of you last night?" The man asks, his gaze locked on Bertrand.
Maya's cheeks were full with bites from breakfast, she'd just point towards upstairs, nodding when the Minotaur beside her says it. She'd pocket some bacon.
"Where I have been since I came to town. Here looking for a ship that is sailing either out to sea or back to Waterdeep. You can ask any of those that sit here now and they will confirm that I retired to bed and did not leave afterwards." Betrand says in a bland voice, his tail twitching to show his irritation at being the one questioned.

Shirley Songbird. The man looks towards you. "Sleeping until one of my men roused me. One of the marines discovered a body down by the docks." He replies. " The victim was a local fisherman named, Burgum. He was seen leaving this place sometime after sun down. But, what brings me here isn't where he ate his last meal, it's how he died." He informs the Party as he returns to staring at Bertrand.
"In what way was he killed that makes you think it could be me. The only weapon I carry is a dagger and a walking staff if you count that as one." Bertrand says as he taps his finger on the table, wondering if they had figured out he was a wizard.

Bertrand. The man is silent for a few moments before answering. "In my Youth I was part of an adventuring company. One day we ran afoul of a wizard. During the fight he cast a spell that, caused 3 bolts of light to fly from his fingertips, and go straight for our Sorceress, Meli. They hit her dead center , dropping her like a stone.. After we killed the wizard , Karau, our Cleric went to tend Meli , but Meli was Dead. Her body had 3 holes in her chest. Similar to the ones on poor Burgum's body."
"A common spell that anyone with a bit of skill can cast if they would wish to. I know it but have had no reason to cast it. I am not such a fool to waste a spell in a fight that would be of no value to me. I fight pirates and so far none have shown themselves to me." Betrand said, knowing that he refered to Magic Missile.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Interesting. So someone who knows the spell magic missile killed this man... I don't even know how to cast it. Nor do I particularly know anyone who would. This fella here that looks like me he's been looking for honest work not out committing murders for no reason. Now if you would like some help investigating the situation, it just so happens that I have cracked my fair share of capers. Yes, Shirley Songbird, simply a name for what I do as a pastime. I am actually quite adept at solving crime. So if you have the coin to afford me... and my friends. Then we will surely..." she snickers a little, "...be happy to help."
"Nobody cares about your bloody life story!" Kayla shouts at the guard, now sober enough to talk. "Just tell me who to kill and I'll bring you their head."
Gridolpho. You manage to avoid the man's attention.
Bertrand. He stares at you for moment then, nods his head showing he accepts your explanation.
Shirley Songbird. He accepts your offer, and informs you that the body is at Hoolwatch Tower. "Tell the guards that, Captain Fireborn sent you." He turns to walk away then, turns back to the Party " A group of cultist in the Dreadwood has been causing trouble. I'll pay each of you 50 Dragons (Gold) if you can make them go away."
Toonary. He's not injured so, you just wasted a spell.
Gridolpho steps out from under the table flipping a dagger in his right hand.
"Option one, the mansion. If the rumors are true, it seems like the most risky choice. But higher risks tend to come with higher rewards."
He extends his left arm and produces a second dagger from seemingly nowhere, like a magician producing a palmed card. He juggles the two daggers back-and-forth between hands.
"Option two, the murder. I feel like the good ol' Captain is just trying to pawn his own job off on us. He's a copper and that's a copper's job. Not ours."
He juggles the two knives one handed while he runs the other hand through his hair. When it comes back, he is holding yet another dagger that joins the other two in a juggling pattern.
"Option the third, the cultists. That's the only offer we've gotten so far with a firm number attached to it. Seems like the safest bet to me."
He tosses the third dagger high enough that it almost embeds itself in the ceiling. Your eyes follow its arc and it falls into the thief's now empty hands.
"So I vote for the cult."

Okay guys it looks like the Party has 3 paths to choose from.
1. Explore Tobin Mansion.
2. Investigate Burgum's Death.
3. Take on the cultist in the Dreadwood.
Make a decision, and that's where the Campaign will head.
