Zanryn notes the way that Zydalia fawns over his words and smiles inwardly. He's always had a way with people. He knows what makes them tick, how to tease out their hearts’ desires after a few minutes of conversation and, with a few leading questions, read them like they were children’s books. It’s a useful talent, and one that he's perfectly willing to use to his advantage.*
"I will go and present the token he gave us at the guard office. He said the 'water and spirit' rose seller would also be nearby. Come, let us conclude this little game".
*I confess, I cheated** - I copied & pasted that straight from the charlatan background description...
**...Then again, cheating is what being a charlatan is all about!
As you wander the streets some vendors like the baker and the like are closing shop. When you aproach the the guard office theres a small stand with a woman selling cookies and a pot with roses. AS you hand over the coin she smile. Ah look at the wee lad. Though i with my husband would stop giving away the stock. No matter. She fetches you a rose and gives you each a bag of cookies. (5) "Here you are."
At the wine and spirits shop you find beautiful glasses made of glass various colors for sale at 2 gold each.
Its ok.im just hoping this fun for the start last time introduced this plot start my group ignored it intent on doing other more malicious things.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I certainly find it an intriguing start and I'm very much in favour of seeing where it's going!
Zydalia brings the bag of cookies to her face, inhaling the scent of them.* She knows she must look like a horse with its nose in a feedbag, but she is too excited at the prospect of the sweet treats to contain herself.
Tucking the rose away with the others, she thanks the mayor's wife. "Your husband seems to be a very kind man."
She turns her attentions to the wine and spirits shop, grimacing when she spots the cost of the rose. She's surprised at how well the three of them have done so far. At least she can afford it, having pickpocketed that gentleman earlier. Regardless, she looks to her companions to see if either of them offer first.
*Zydalia is naturally wary so I'd like to check the cookies for poisons, drugs, hallucinogens, or anything else out of the ordinary. 20
Durmatl steps forward, placing two gold coins on the desk in front of the seller, and immediately hands the rose over to Zydalia as soon as it is place in his hands. As they move away, he glances again at the list, nodding excitedly. "We have all of them now, right? Only the Black remains?"
“Perhaps that is a task for the morrow, after we have sampled”, Zanryn wrinkles his nose slightly, “the finest victuals and lodgings that this town can offer”.
"Many thanks, Durmatl," Zydalia states, stashing the blue rose, the sensation of relief washing over her as she realises she can keep hold of her coins a little longer.
She finds herself agreeing with Zanryn, before she scrutinises the leaflet. "Must we collect the prize today, or can we resume in the morning? Tomorrow is the crowning of the life bringer."
Zanryn looks thoughtful, "I'd assumed that the prize would be awarded on festival day. In any case", he gestures at the baker and other vendors packing up stalls, "it may be too late today".
The roleplay for the start is good. There's a Jekyll & Hyde aspect to my character that is starting to emerge and that I'm enjoying developing.
Zanryn nods and strides* out towards the inn. On arrival, he pauses at the door, surveying the patrons and staff within to see if he can spot the Dwarf lass, Merri.
As you make your way to the inn you can smell fresh cooked meat and bread with roasted vegetables. There's a band playing light music on the small stage. THe owner is sitting having cleaned herself up from the stone dust of her side business to help work the bar. As she see you all enter she waves you over to the bar. "Welcome i have rooms made up incase you succeeded in the quest."
you can detect no poisons though they smell Delicious.
Zydalia follows Zanryn into the inn. She sneezes and she suddenly realises she feels more cognizant and alert*.
"We sure did," she rests herself against the bar in front of Merri. "We have them all except the black! We're hoping we might get lucky with that one tomorrow." She breathes in the smell of the food as the scent suddenly fills her nostrils. "Might we trouble you for a meal? It smells fabulous, and it's making my stomach rumble."
500XP means we've levelled up! Zydalia has acquired Danger Sense and Reckless Attack. I can't explain the sneezing...
OOC: Intriguing! I look forward to getting there either way. I've not played a barbarian before so I'm looking forward to trying out combat in this class.
Zanryn rather suspects that the tavern will be bereft of Gogondy and resigns himself to the local wine. He sniffs the meaty whiff from the kitchen: Goat*, cooked instead of salted. Some things were indeed better on the surface, he had to admit as he sipped his drink and quietly observed his companions with whom he had entered into an unlikely "fellowship" of his own devising. Take each day as it comes, he muses to himself.
I'm making an assumption, but you didn't say and it seems likely enough.
Gender: they/them (I can't decide on a gender and it's probably not important anyway)
Race: Dragonborn
Class/Archetype: Draconic Sorcerer
Story: Bethozus spent most of their early life as a slave of the Drow. Recently they managed to escape, and now they're trying to decide what to do with their newfound freedom.
OOC: If you go in landscape mode on mobile you get the same toolbar, with as mentioned the exclamation point being the 'insert spoiler' button. (At least my phone works like that)
Durmatl smiles as they re-enter the inn, eager for some good food. He is still uncomfortable in this bustling city, but it did not seem likely they would be heading out into nature the following day either. Still, a good opportunity to learn, he thinks to himself.

Not necessarily that quickly - little legs!

Ah but I can: Zanryn is surrounded by invisible, necrotic spores that are harmless until he unleashes them on a creature nearby.
I'm also wondering if I might find some roleplay use for his ability to tap into the cycle of life and death.
OOC:
> Ah but I can

If you're on desktop, you can insert a spoiler by clicking on the button in the toolbar that looks like an exclamation point.
I'm not sure quite how to insert a spoiler on mobile - I usually switch to desktop mode on my browser if I need a spoiler.
