How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
Sickle says, “I propose this. When night falls, we will go to the base of the tower. I will cast my finding spell, then transform into a spider, and Badger can ride my back and we can begin to climb. We will climb until I get a sense of how high in the tower the mask is, then return and set a rope for the others to use in climbing up, though the ladder seems safer to me...though I think the question as to why the ladders are there is fair.”
if this is accepted:
When at the base of the tower, Sickle will cast Locate Object, transform into a Giant Wolf Spider, and climb the tower, with Badger if he agrees. I would like to climb, avoiding the outlooks, until I get a sense of generally where in the tower the object is, then return and aid the others in climbing, however that is decided.
(OOC: Just chill here guys. Badger and Sickle will be back shortly with the mask... LOL)
(OOC: In fact, if Badger climbs aboard the spider-Sickle, and then casts Invisibility on Sickle, wouldn't Badger also be invisible, as he is being carried by Sickle? We'd be a ninja-stealth-gnider)

The group approaches the tower under cover of darkness, sneaking through the forest and staying under the canopy easily arriving at the base of the massive tower. As you approach, you notice a dead elf laying in the mud. His limbs seem broken, and his ribcage appears crushed. Twigs and torn leaves are stuck in what's left of his clothes. He doesn't appear to have any valuables on him. The rest of the group finds a sheltered spot to wait, while Sickle and Badger go scouting. Sickles body transforms into the large dog sized spider, it's thick bristling hair and massive black eyes regard Badger without emotion. Badger thanks his stars he's not afraid of spiders, and crawls onto the back of the spider, grabbing as hard as he can, as Sickle begins to clamber up the side of the pilar. Sickle, with his spell cast seeks out any masks he can find. The senses tingle. 340 feet away, up. You begin the climb, clambering up the sides easily while avoiding the caves. After passing the first and second level, it becomes crystal clear that the mask is at the very top of the tower. The wind is gusty up here, and Badger looks way way down, clutching the spider as hard as he can, realizing it's a long way down, and being glad he has magic.
Sickle climbs back down and gets back to the group who are huddled hidden amongst the greenery.

Sickle will gesture with a hairy spider leg to the top of the tower when it becomes clear that’s where the mask is, then clamber back down. I assume that Badger communicates this to the others. Sickle will stay in spider form ready to climb up with the others.
Silas rubs his neck as he remembers when he looked up, then up, then up to see the top of the tower. "So who's the best climber that doesn't transform?"

Kasaaptu will inform the others what Krull has found out about the first cave. Seeing how the item has been located at the top she will offer up the idea that Krull could scout the top of the tower where the magic says the item is and maybe he can swipe it without anyone climbing. But she also says that trying to bypass the lower levels could be a mistake. " we should clear it from the bottom floors up so we can be sure we wont be pinched in the middle or trapped at the top of the tower with no way down"
She wont mention the longing for the feeling of life she obtained from the death of the frogman or the desire to feel that rush of power again. She wonders if the Ptera-folk life force would feel different, stronger?
" Krull found the lower caves are only about 7 feet tall, so low ceilings. A small section curves around to meet back up with the main section. It then drops down into a ten foot pit, across which the tunnel continues. It continues to be dark and quiet inside. I dont like being vulnerable from behind by bypassing the lower floors, and maybe we will make a discovery regarding our primary quest. For all we know, an important clue lays within or even the deathmonger itself"

Yroc is content with the group's planning and preparation, although his hands are getting a bit sweaty at the prospect of having to climb the tower. He was a good climber, but even good climbers could make mistakes, and it was a long way down from the top.
"Perhaps the caves meet up on the inside." he offers, although he senses that such a thing would be wishful thinking. "I am a good climber, I could go first. Do we have the rope to reach all the way to the bottom from the first cave?"

OOC @DM: Are we making things difficult for ourselves? Is there literally a ladder to climb? It's in the picture, but you never mentioned it in your description. I stand corrected. Alright, so it sounds like the group is going to try and ascend then? Yroc clambers up the rock surface which is pitted with natural hand holds and ledges. The large hairy spider crawls next to him, easily sticking to the side of the wall as its 8 legs clamber into holds and across sheer rock. Forty feet later and his arms are starting to burn, his orc fingers continuing to clutch at rock. Stopping for a moment to wipe sweat from his brow with the back of his arm, he looks at the spider stuck to the rock beside him. It regards him with black alien eyes. He's reached the tops of the trees and is now pressing through the branches as he emerges into the night sky. He continues climbing higher until he finally reaches the ledge of the first cave. There is a gentle wind blowing along the tops of trees and brushing the side of the area. He climbed near the rope which both he and the spider investigate as they go. It's clearly extremely old, but also must have been made very well, and possibly protected with magic, since the heavy rope and wooden rungs appear to be in workable order. As Yroc reaches the top, his burning forearms ask him why he didn't just use it. He examines where it attaches to the stone, and heavy iron rungs that are very securely drilled into the rock. He figures he could easily tie the rope to it as a backup in case the ladder gives.
Looking up at the dark sky he sees starts twinkling and dark grey blobs of clouds blocking out sections of sky. No sign of any Pterafolk flying around.
Perhaps twenty minutes later the rest of the group is hunched, just inside the first cave. The cave is dark and quiet, though after standing here for a few minutes, there is definitely the occasional whistle of air movement from within, and it feels like there are drafts of air moving into the cave. The cave appears to be natural, and like Kasaaptu mentioned it is a low ceiling, just seven feet in most areas, though with natural chunks reaching down people will be walking hunched to avoid smacking their head. Except of course for Badger who finds the cave a nice size.
A quick examination shows the cave system above. A cave continues beyond on the other side of the ten foot deep it. Thick cracks and large black crevices thick enough for a man to stand in are throughout the cave. Some could lead to holes to outside which could explain the whistling air sound, though it does seem to come more loudly from across the cave. The air flow also seems to head gently in that direction.

With the group behind in the cave Krull flaps across the pit and into the next section of cave which opens into a small room. The whistling air sound increases here as does the gusts of air and he sees a dead end, except for a hole in the ceiling that has a small tunnel stretch into darkness. The tunnel is filled with cobwebs which sway back and forth with the air. Badger clambers down into the pit and up the other side, coming around and also spotting the tunnel up. Kasaaptu jumps down into the pit with sickle right after her. Sickle crawls up beside her and slams into her violently. She turns around ready to curse him and sees sickle is still near the top of the pit.
