Elisha's keen eyes picks up on some additional clues. The deeper marks remind her of heavy things being dragged. The claw gouges appear less like wild animals and more like foot prints. Them being deeper by the what she thought might be drag marks makes more sense. It would take more effort to drag something this causing the feet to sink deeper.
"Can you tell what it was that attacked? And estimate their numbers?" Jilrana asks, using a stick to pry aside some of the Goblin corpses to see if there are any of the larger Hobgoblins among the pile as well, perhaps even a sign of a corpse of one of the attackers stacked in there.
From poking around it does not appear the hobgoblins are in the pile.
The birds are skittish and dont allow close approach but they describe waking up with the sound of shouting and sight of fire. They didnt see much because of fear. So much talk of fear. What you do get out is that there were scaly things running about setting fires and stabbing things.
While Dor searches, he finds much wreckage from the makeshift shacks and tents but nothing that would be of interest to reuse. Most everything they owned was filthy beyond belief and the fire may have actually done some good destroying these nasty things.
The birds give a real brief description of scaly, walkers, many, bring fire. They their attention having been spent fly off.
Taking the description back to the group, Boofa has a thought. Up in the mountains he may have encountered some similar creatures. Scaly, clawed feet, go in groups, attacked at night, these could Kobolds.
"Wait... we might be dealing with Kobolds. Scaly, two-legged creatures? If so, we should stick together, or at least in two groups maximum. They move in bands, and their group fighting makes up for their smaller frame and strength."
"The Goblins no longer pose a threat for the nearby villages," Jilrana concludes, "but we should get a good eye on these Kobolds to report back what happened here. Perhaps high command will need to issue a larger force to clear the area, but we should be more certain than we are now."
She looks around at the camp, satisfied with how they had handled the discovery and investigation. "Anything else you guys want to check out before we follow?"
Elisha nods at Dor and says: " Aye, we were supposed to check on the Goblin problem....spending a week doing so. We are not sure if any Goblins are left they probably are more groups of them but now there is an added problem of Kobolds apparently. I think we need to continue with our recon mission and see if we can determine what is going on here."
After a quick breakfast the group head out. The trail is easy to keep track off. The weight of the presumed drug hobgoblins left deep gouges that even a novice could follow. For neigh three miles the trail moved steadily through the forest. Then it started to thin out and a small mountain could be seen in the short distance away.
The land mark stood out from the surrounding sea of greenery. A lone, rock mound rising up, yet not so high as to break the clouds nor have a snow capped peak. Here the trail was a harder to follow. The ground growing more loose with pebbles and rock and less dirt.

If you want to keep tracking toss me up some survival checks or two people can work and one have advantage.

Elisha relay's the information to the party.
Question: can we make out if it is a mixture of goblins and hobgoblins in the pile?

I will ask the birds if they saw ir heared anything.
How did the attackers look like, how many were there. Did weired stuff happen, like explosions or goblins attacking each other...

Dor will poke around and look for anything useful he can scavenge from the wreck and surrounding wilderness.

Do the birds see if the attackers were going on 2 legs or 4? How many attackers were there, one or two, a few or many?

Dor grimaces, unsure of the group's directive. He waits a moment and then speaks,
"Mmm...we're supposed to clear goblins and the goblins have been cleared, they may just want to know that goblins aren't the issue."
He pauses, then places a closed fist to his mouth,
"I'll leave it you to decide though."
He then stares around and looks to the sky waiting.

"That seems like a good idea. If we find their camp, we can ambush them and better protect our little camp. Does anyone have any other ideas?"
