Renton asks, "Why don't we tie up the horses here to a tree? If we aren't very far from the ranch. If there is something going on thats dangerous then the horses may have fled for that reason. And it may be difficult to keep them calm if something attacks. Worst case we are being cautious and we retrieve the horses after verifying that everything is safe."
"Hmmmm...." Last Tree Standing has to admit the wisdom of this course of action, even though she is reluctant to let the newly acquired horses out of her sight. "Az long az nothing comez along and eats them..."
She ties the horses to whatever is nearby that seems sturdy and convenient. (50 foot rope divided by three is over 16 ft per horse, subtracting some length for the halters and knots should still leave them around10 feet of slack rope each.)

I won't be mean and make you actually catch the other horses, since I am sure it would just be some needless rolling. You quickly have all of them tied up to a nearby tree growing out of the ruins.
"So....you iz implying we should...give them back?" says Last Tree Standing. "Maybe it's just me, but they doezn't seem wild about that idea. Let's see what's going on at the ranch before we drag innocent horsez into it."

"Seruk I believe something may have happened at the ranch which is why the horses escaped. Without knowing more about whats going on I would feel safer leaving them tied up while we investigate. If something attacked us we would be putting the horses in danger and they may go wild trying to flee." Renton Shruggs.
"Maybe I'm being too cautious. We could always put it to a vote."
"Leaving them here temporarily is a good idea, this area seems to not be on a well beaten path so they should be safe. Well unless a certain dragon goes flying by, make sure to tie them under some tree canopies." Reginald will say.
“I vote bring the horses to make a good impression on the guy we’re going to help, otherwise we’d just have to make a trip back here to get them later, which seems a waste of time. But the horses don’t like me, so its up to the rest of you.” And Seruk will go wait at the side of the clearing towards where they are headed.
"Tie them here, go to ranch, if they just escape and can be returned, we tell him. If the place has been attack and he's dead, I think scavenger law applies aka Finder keepers," Fyste stated as he grabbs his rope from his backpack and a dagger to cut it.

Step one in keeping the horses is definitely not to take them back to the ranch.

"I believe that is majority vote in favor of leaving the horses. The quicker we get to the ranch the quicker we can come back. If everything is fine we could get some saddles and three of us ride the horses back. Let's get going." Renton starts walking toward where Seruk is waiting ready to go.
“I too vote we leave them,” Qa says from the back of the group. “As you we’re looking around did any of you see anything like a stable or barn? The walls would work well both for protection and to contain them.”
(I thought our franchise was at rank 1, and that rank 2 is attained at level 5)
(Ohhhh.....You are right, I was thinking level 3, my bad. Darn. Deleting previous.
Back to cutting my rope for halters.)

It is still a few miles to the ranch, but you can find a place nearby to tie them up if that is what the group wants.

“It would probably help make a good impression if we bring the horses back with us, don’t you think.” Seruk will carefully move towards the horses.

The horse shies away from Seruk, going to the extent of its makeshift halter and rope.
Seruk will hesitate and back away, “Perhaps someone else should grab them though.”
