If Adray planned to impress Captain Zodge, he succeeded with flying colors. The only eye of the good Captain - dark grey as a storm cloud - squint in approval. "Glad I was right about you, though would not speak just yet. By the way, I did not mention the obvious, but you are new to the city... We consider possessions of the criminals a hazard pay. Though, if you come across something case-related, I advise you not to hide it."
"Now, Tarina - is a tough girl. Everyone knows her there but look for a Baldur's Bones table and the tanned swearing woman with short half grey hair. That would be her. As I said, be nice for your own sake and ... do not play with her. Also for your own sake."
Nodding at the others he says, "Right, so the Elfsong tavern. Let's make our way lest more murders happen..." He takes a few steps and then looks around and the points down a street and asks, "He said this way right?"

As they go toward the tavern on their first mission, Choir mutters, "May the blessing and protection of Akadi be upon us." She hopes that Akadi will pay close attention if it's the high priestess's voice she hears asking for the blessing.
She is very glad that Adray seems to know what he is doing, and clearly has military experience. Life is much simpler and less confusing when there is someone to give orders. And she is going to enter her first tavern! She has never been in an unholy place before--she thinks--and is curious to see what it is like.

<Well, this seem simple enough.> Polly think to herself. But she know from experience that the simplest thing can also be the most dangerous if you underestimate them.
She remembers the war-magic class she had taken at the academy. They were learning the fire bolt spell, a spell she had been memorized early in hear school days. She had underestimated the simple spell, thinking it was quite ridiculous that experienced students of the acadamy had to do such an easy thing as a fire bolt. The teacher had called her up in front of all the students and when she was about to cast the spell she got stage fright and mispronounced the spell. The damage that followed was devastating. Instead of a fire bolt she had cast a fire ball that blew the wall into pieces and more then a few students had been sent to the infirmary.
“Maybe we should try to come up with a battle formation that appeal too everyones strength, incase this cult provides more resistance then those refuges? I’m a mage, and should stay in the back providing offensive spells and crowd control.” She offers up.
OOC: Polly was green but switching to light blue, it feels more fitting for mage :)
Ordrag has spent a long time with some pretty rough fellas, and when he looks at Adray he recognises someone who can handle himself. He's not so sure about the others, although the bird-priest is a bit of an enigma to him.
Me a simple sort of fella, eh. You point, me punch, that sorta thing. Me don't mind gettin up in someone's face. Maybe Adray's the same, what you reckon fella?
(OOC: Choir has best AC but not a heap of HP, so maybe Ordrag/Adray as front-line, and Choir replace either one if unavailable. Ruby/Polly in the rear.)
Six pares of eyes stared at your back when you were leaving guardhouse, while Captain was already busy with other things (blond guy managed to whisper to Fran "do not forget to report back sometimes", making Minaqua to roll her eyes). The street was much less crowded now. While walking, you periodically fell ... not so friendly gazes but even Adray's high senses did not pick up any open hostility - your group might have being impressive enough not to cross it so soon after the freshly annihilate rebellion.
Choir was right about taverns. At least about taverns here. No wise person walks the streets of Baldur's Gate or enters one of its taverns without a weapon or an armed escort. Anyone who has lived in the city for more than a tenday knows this from experience. Taverns might appear safe at a glance , but they are among the most dangerous places in Baldur's Gate - full of alcohol, tempting coin, and unscrupulous people. Volothamp Geddarm, a notorious raconteur known for his tavern reviews, encapsulates his Baldur's Gate experience as "hard on the stomach, especially when someone sticks a knife in there." Customers are expected to look after themselves when fights break out, and one shouldn't expect any help or sympathy neither from the officials, nor from the owner (unless his employees are involved). Tavern murders are common, and usually end with the poor victim being dragged away and either left in an alley (to be picked clean by urchins, then eaten by rats) or tossed in the harbour.
Elfsong Tavern was indeed quite close. On a signboard above the door you could see the name "Elfsong" and a picture of a ghostly elven maiden, judging by the pose - singing.
For Ordrag
He could probably hear about it - there are not so many haunted houses out there, and if you have one near by, it ought to be famous. From time to time, the disembodied voice of a female elf fills the tavern with a melancholy song, giving the establishment its name. The ballad isn't loud enough to disrupt conversation, but most patrons stop speaking when the elfsong begins, then resume only after it ends. Many customers frequent the tavern in the hopes of hearing it. Such a peaceful attraction allows to count the tavern among ... well, less dangerous than many other.

At Polly's question about battle formations and tactics he seem surprised, but pleasantly so. It is not only sound reasoning to know your teams capabilities but also flaws, that way they can be shored up. Then he responds to Ordrag "Me? Well I'm not skidding if that's what you mean. No, I wont get into all the details but ones of my family are born with a nack for threat assessment and neutralization. In simple terms, I'm suited to find danger and deal with it... hard." He says.
"Ah, we're here. Best be getting on with it." He says before opening the door and stepping in. The first thing he does is try to size up the people in there taking assessment of who is a threat though he knows in this town, almost every one has a blade.

Fran would raise her brow to the whisper, not expecting attention from within the ranks. Though Minaqua’s reaction was enough to convince Fran that this is not unusual behaviour. She’d shrug it off, more curious about who in the Flaming Fists crafts or tinkers like herself. “Aye. I’m an Artificer.” She would nod to Polly appreciating her thinking ahead. It also felt like a good way to break the ice. “I’m all about support and backing my team up.” Fran would smile assuringly. “I’m strongest at range, but can be quick with a blade if someone gets up in my face.” Then she’d look to their Kenku cleric and with a respectful bow of her head she’d say, “I can also provide back up healing, should we need it.”
Appreciating the guys taking lead, Fran would follow them into the establishment. While Ordrag sizes the patrons in the establishment up, she would scan the crowd for Tarina, ‘a tanned swearing woman with short half grey hair’.
Choir quietly enters behind Adray, looking around at the unholy tavern, wide-eyed.

Last in is Polly. Unlike Choir, she has been in a few taverns before, but nothing like this.. there were knifes on every person and more then a few had large ugly scars where they had been stabbed in previous bar fights. The captain had indeed been right about this place.
“Better let the big folk talk lead on this” she whisper to Choir once they are inside.
As always in places like that, newcomers met with inquisitive looks. Though, in your case that was it. The tavern is too close to the gates (with the guardhouse) for patrons to know better than cross Flaming Fist for no reason.
Despite it's poetic name, tavern looks like pretty much most of the Lower City establishments, not even cleaner you could notice a few rats scurrying around. Though it's barely noon, there are quite a lot of patrons (commoners and thugs mostly), most of them well-armed, huddle around tables in the main room and in private booths. Three padded chairs are angled toward a fireplace on the east wall, underneath the creaky wooden staircase that climbs to the second floor. Some drunk is usually passed out on the couch against the north wall. Next to the couch sits a wooden sea chest that contains an assortment of games (Dragonchess boards, well used decks of Three-Dragon Ante cards, and so on).
Bartender (that looks human, though some slightly visible elven features betray the mix blood) is ordering around two human guys - obvious waiters. Closer to the door you could spot no less obvious bouncer - a gruff female half-ogre, standing by what looks like a suit of armor. Adray could detect slight movements of said armor suit and it's not so decorative positioning in the room. Like on the streets before - there is no open threat, but no welcoming either.
There is no one around, though, that fits Captain's description of Tarina.
Fran would look around with her hands tucked into her pockets. "Hmm... welp!" she'd rock up and down on her heels before she heads over towards the bartender. After the bartender was done instructing his two waiters, Fran would pipe up "Pardon me..." she would nod her head in greeting, "Name's Fran. Captain Zodge sent us to speak with Tarina. Can ye' point me in the right direction?"
Adray was surprised at Frans' brazen behavior. She just up and went over to the bartender with either sheer confidence or blissful ignorance. In either case Adray moved up behind Fran to lend his presence to the situation.
Bartender (definitely half-elven!) gave you a long look. "Just like that?" He smiled. "New here, I take it? In the city and in the ranks?" He nodded to himself. "Take an advice from someone who saw it all. Loose your tabards and hide your badges. If your visit is friendly - do hope it is friendly - Tarina would not be happy with all this official fuss, and if you mean to arrest ... someone ... no need to advertise it so broadly."
Ordrag looked down, having forgotten they'd been dressed up as Flaming Fist before they left the barracks - this was gonna take some getting used to! He slips his tabard off over his head and says to the barkeep:
Ah, good thinkin fella. Yeah, we don't wanna scare no-one off, eh?
And then to the others:
And maybe we better not go flyin up there with full sails. Might look a bit suss. How about me wait here with Polly and Choir, keep a weather-eye on things down here. Adray and Fran can go have a sticky-beak upstairs, see which way the wind's blowin. Then we'll come up after.
Then he looks at Polly and says:
Wouldn't mind a drink to tell the truth. You wouldn't have a few nibs on ya would ya?

Bartender nodded approvingly, filled a big mug with the beer that smelled better than the one in HQ and gave it to Ordrag. "On the house. First welcome pint for the smart newcomers. Can I get you something too, Miss?" he looked at Polly, though others did not feel excluded - just in a queue. "We are all friends here. Most of the time. Would not want to change it."
You could tell that half-elf indeed "saw it all" - your colorful group (including Choir) did not make him even remotely surprised. Behind you patrons already returned to their lazy talks and entertainment. You could hear some impersonal remarks:
"I bet my last copper piece that those so called refugees are advanced scouts for an army that's preparing to attack Baldur's Gate!" "The Flaming Fist is decapitated. The captains have already started bickering over who should be in charge with Ulder Ravengard gone." "With Ravengard out of the way, who'll be the next grand duke, I wonder? My money's on Thalamra Vanthampur. Practically born in the sewers, she was, and more vicious than a swarm of rats."
Blissful ignorance it was. Immediately Fran's face would look confused from the reply. She was polite, at least she thought she was, like the Captain suggested. I didn't shout or show a badge... Fran would look down at herself, remembering that perhaps their uniforms were a little loud and brought on a lot of attention. She'd do her best to relax her posture and gesture as if she were swatting something away. "No one said anything about arresting..." Fran would mutter with a sigh.
Fran would gesture to Adray to take the lead when he's ready and she'd follow in silence.
Adray acknowledged the bartender with a little nod at his warning/request before saying, "Preciate the candor, we'll be out of your hair quick." He then turns and pats Ordrag on the shoulder and says, "Right, I'll watch her back, and if there's trouble I'm sure you'll hear and come pull us out of the fire." With that said he'll follow Fran up the steps. As he does so, he'll roll his should and flex his fingers just in case a scuffle was to start.
She look up at Ordrag and follow his lead and take off her tabard. “I’m all out.. the guy who ‘recruted’ me, took a fine fee for doing so..“ She sees Fran getting a glass and the bartender saying it’s on the house. “But it looks like the first one is free.” And she walks up to the bar. “Hello friend! I’m Polly, thank you for offering us a drink! You got anything light, like milk?” She ask with a cheerful tone.
