Manfred sighs. He had seen the like of Bartholomew Nota before and he believed he knew best how to handle someone like that.
"I see, Magistrate Nota. I am Sir Manfred Metternich -- you may have heard of my father, the Viscount Metternich, one of the most important lords of the North. What exactly happened here, sir? How were these creatures able to gain control of one of the town's most important defense mechanisms?" Manfred uses his most dismissive, superior-sounded voice, one he had heard his father use a thousand times when dealing with those he considered his inferiors, hoping that it would convincingly cow this petty little bureaucrat.

Ashtear is glad that she isn't dealing with them, she can't snoot worth a boot.
Thus she begins to examin the machine. 15 (Unsure of most approriate roll. If alch supplies or Tinker Tools or Herbalism, +3 profiency + a stat, 4 if int, which would be my preference, +2 if dex)
7 If perception is needed. 14 If Investigation 21 if medicine. (decied to roll anything I coudl think of, as work week at the PD has been busy, even for support staff)

The man almost goes white as you mention your noble status, and begins to fidget a bit nervously.
Ah. Well, yes, I'd like to know as well. No doubt ill need to launch a formal investigation. I, um, I'm sure it was some minor oversight, no need to be mentioning this to the other families, right sir Manfred?
Ashtear is glad that she isn't dealing with them, she can't snoot worth a boot.

Looking throughout the machine, you do manage to find a few small interesting parts that could possibly be used to tinker in the form of some small clockwork machinery, as well as a compartment containing one philter of love though salvaging more mivht be a little difficult with Survivor currently dismantling any loose parts he can find.
Johan finishes opening the last cell with a set of keys he appears to have found in Janices remains, which begin to decay extremely rapidly. Basically turning into black slime in a rather short amount of time. Even the eyes that Albanus is currently holding begin to dissolve in your hands, and continue to disolve until nothing can be seen.
"Ah, slow a moment Survivor. I need to get this part out--I think I should make more antidote, just in case. Can't hurt to have some hanging around anyway." After a brief pause to assess, Ashtear will work on gaining the item, and stowing it with other random parts, before helping survivor dismantle it.
Manfred listens to what Nota says with a very disappointed look on his face. "Well, Magistrate, we shall see. Tell me your version for now, and perhaps I will not need to speak to my cousins here in the South. And make it short." He says, in the best imitation of his father he can muster.
Walking up to the Manfred and gives him a nod and grin, and then turns to the magistrate, the goop now all but dissolved from his hands.
"You had an infestation of succubi as a result of that ooze getting inside your circle of leadership. Corruption, as is the way of many self-important people, is likely the cause. There is still one fiend on the loose. As you saw, we banished one to it's home. Yet one succubus is still one too many. Riverton deserves better, much better." Albanus looks around to see if any townsfolk are still listening, hopefully they are. "Know that you were saved adventurers linked to the Giant Slayer's Guild and know, too, that you were nearly made into souls for feeding those things," Albanus gestures to the remains of the Baroness and the place where Janice fell. "I think all of us, Heroes of Riverton, deserve to hear the story of the King and how the Baroness came to be. However, I need to know about young Winter's parents. Did you hear the fiends talking of where they might keep their prisoners?
"We can talk about how best the town's "leadership" might reward a band of heroes such as ourselves in due time. First, tell me where the prisoners are if anyone knows. Next, answer the Noble Bard's questions, you'd not like him when his ire awakens. Third, know you still have a fiend that can charm at will on the loose."

With Survivors help it doesnt take long for you to render the machine obsolete, as well as keeping some key components for yourself, and your own love potion.
Johan, not getting an answer to his question, approachs Ashtear and Survivor.
Excuse me. Sorry, might have been the commotion, but have you been sent by guildmaster Leon? If so I would like a word. But not here. Do you have a room at the inn?

The Magistrate does his best to keep his face from turning red, but fails terribly, and his embarrassment is quite apparent.
Well, I, er, we greatly appreciate your help. And I'm quite sure something can be arranged. As how how this occurred, well I wish i knew. Though like I said, a formal investigation will be launched. Oh..Where are the bloody guards. Guards! Let's be escorting these people out of the keep now! He yells over the small crowd gathering, and within moments several guards arrive and begin escorting the townspeople out. All with extremely confused looks on their faces as they do so.
I dont believe anyone of us here know wherd they could be, but perhaps your friend is right? Looking through the home she rented would be the best place to look i imagine.
"Agree," nodding to the dwarf. "I hate leaving when one of those rats are flitting about but the truth is, she might already be there anyway. I hope for Winter's parents are there." Albanus eyes the magistrate suspiciously, turning his glowing white for a second before moving to leave [as soon as everyone's done].

"Oh sorry, We are indeed. Is it time pressing? If not, we promised to find Winters family, best we can anyway. They were taken--likely as a result of coming into contact with you. Did you hear or see anything?" Stuffing the last bit of scrap into her pocket, while trying to stay out of the limelight her cohorts are creating, "We do have a room, although that might not be the best place with all things considered. First Winter's Family, and Janet's home need to be secured. Unless more lives are indanger at the moment?"
Aura decides to look for Winter herself instead of anyone else, just as to be sure the girl is safe. With Winter following her or not, Aura would reunite with Ashtear and Survivor by the machine just in time to hear Johan and Ashtear talking.
Manfred pats the magistrate on the shoulder condescendingly. "We are going to finish our investigation, now. For your sake, chum, I hope you have some answers for me when I see you again." He turns around and winks at the Albanus as soon as the Magistrate can't see his face.
"After we finish going over Janice's lair, lets have a kip, yeah? It has been quite a day." He says to the others.
Aura is able to find Winter, somewhat looking through the crowd in hopes of spotting her family. Johan nods in agreement that later would be better.
The Magistrate continues ordering the guards to help escort people to their homes, all while very red in the face.
Upon arriving at Janices home, you enter, and dont see anything out of the ordinary for a house of this size. Random bits of furniture and such in the living room, a small dining area, and a bedroom make up the entirety of the house. (Anyone can roll for perception or investigation to see what you guys find here.)
Survivor will wait outside, watching the surroundings and standing ready to help if needed, but otherwise keeping his large frame out of the way in the small cottage.
Perception: 18
(He's a little tired, he raged 3 times today after all.)
It only takes a little while before Dains Tressym begins to scratch at a rug on the floor, pulling it back to reveal a small trap door. The rest of the room appears to be clear of anything noteworthy.
Outside, Survivor, youre having a tough time trying to stay awake after the rather long day you all have had. As a result, you dont see anything other than a few people being escorted back home by guards from the keep.
Johan continues where he had previously left off. I'm not sure I trust the Magistrate, but he may very well be guilty of nothing more than incompatence to be fair. In the meantime, I would reccomend we rest for tonight once you all are through helping the girl. Then we should leave tomorrow for guildmaster Leon as soon as possible, if that can be managed.

Dain puts away the book, knowing it will be something he will need more time to start the process of moving spells to his own book.
As Ashtear is trying to investigate the machine, Survivor is still trying to dismantle it, curiously looking at pieces as he pulls them off.
