Hello Everyone!
So, a little about this campaign before we get going. Its going to be, as the title suggests, a one direction decent into "the Abyss" with a subsequent, intended, return. If you come back, your character will be stronger, and relatively well equipped to combat fiends and demons at the 5th level. You will not be trading or crafting much beyond the occasional "do you really want to make a demon's horn a spear tip?" because there won't be anything to make. In good faith, as an example, here is a perception roll in this campaign:
Perception: ~roll~
With the beast slain, you look around the wider area than the dungeon passageways hoping for something other than the slime ridden rocks you've seen for hours. However, the rocks around you are still unsuitable for anything more than a slippery, and painful, laceration to an unprotected hand or foot. Even the creatures you'd think would scuttle, or the fungi you'd believe would grow, in such an environment, are totally absent. Nothing here seems even remotely friendly to you, and deeper still, in the next passage way downwards, you can see the floor is lightly covered in water.
Having said that, I want to implore that you will be getting decent loot and compensated for not being able to craft and buy. The only thing you'll have to keep careful track of is your Health and Spell slots, as I won't be asking you if you'd like to rest. There will be light RP elements you can interact with if you chose, or little RP if you all want to prove me wrong and blow through hell like Doom Guy.
---
Character Restrictions:
Yes, you can die. Permanently. There will be no rez items. If nobody has a rez ability in the group, the others can\may divide up your belongings and leave your body there.
No, you may not act maliciously towards your group while they are alive. Stealing From, Attacking, Killing, Charming, etc.
No, you may not act maliciously towards their soul either. (because there are wicked evil necromancers that do that sort of thing)
Point Buy. Level 1. Any Alignment. Any Standard Race.
Any Standard Class. (Blood Hunter & Artificer Included)
Grahl grew up near an almost forgotten outpost. Mostly upheld by the small villages and nomadic tribes sending soldiers to defend it. This resulted in an outpost with many different races, all fragmented groups bound together by a common foe. Grahl stuck most with other older half orcs that settled down after a nomadic life. The area was at war with the drow living under a nearby mountain. They had already driven out dwarves that mined there. As a soldier Grahl fought many times vs skirmishing groups of drow finding great honor in doing so. The war was very costly for the outpost since the drow employed goblins whose numbers were much bigger it seemed and kept on sending more forces. The leaders of the outpost would finally make the decision to leave the lands in search of a better place to live, which was desperately needed for their tribes survival. Some of the older proud soldiers refused and some would stay to buy time for the nearby villages to leave. These soldiers would not flee, and so the decision was made to make a final stand while the regular townsfolk and wounded would make their way to another place to live.
The night before the great battle Grahl would pray to the orc god Gruumsh. Having honored this god with victories against the drow in the past he hoped for his aid in battle. To bring Grahl an honorable death but not after slaying many drow. After all they were the worst of the elves and hated by Gruumsh as well.
Dawn came quickly as the warriors prepared to make their assault on the warcamps of the drow around noon, when the drow would still be sleeping in the mountain and not expecting an attack. Having the element of surprise the warband was able to kill many drow and their goblin pets at the start of the battle, before they were able to get into battle formations. Warcries filled the battlefield as ferocious soldiers leaped into the fray to be met by hordes of goblins. Grahl was wounded as he stood face to face with a drow and his armored bugbear, taking the lead Grahl made a big swing to take out the bugbear with his axe and it cleaved into the beasts armor killing him but lodging the axe in the metal of the armor. With his bear hands he had to fend off the drow finding scraps around him to shield himself as the drow proceeded to attack Grahl. Finding an opening Grahl rushed forward to tackle the drow getting cut in the process but managing to take him to the ground trying to pin him down. They struggled and Grahl's hand was searching for anything on the ground and he found a spear and managed to jab it into the drows side. Only getting up after the drow stopped moving. Scrambling up to his feet Grahl pulled back the spear and slammed it down again into the drows chest to finish him off with a battlecry.
Looking around the battlefield all had died, he was the only one still standing in a field of dead bodies and burning barrels of supplies. Not grasping the idea of being the only survivor yet. Grahls adrenaline and rage faded and he looked at the spear that saved him and saw it was a makeshift banner from another half orc since it had the cloth with the symbol of Gruumsh on it. He took it as a sign of favor from Gruumsh. From that day Grahl would follow the ways of Gruumsh and honor him with battle and bloody victories.
Knowing this victory only bought time. Time before more evil came up from the depths of the mountain. He left in search of those willing to venture into such evil places to find glory for his god and to purge the world of these dishonorable creatures.
I intended PHB but I'm willing to hear out MOST of the WotC...
Technically, they published the pokemon trading card game. If you can translate: "i wanna be a squirtle from the Pokémon TCG" as a level 1 Tortle Circle of Land: Costal Druid, maybe we can work something out 👍
You can rest, but you as a group have to decide in between floors to do so. You'll have so much space, and there will be so many patrols. If you notice a particularly rocky area with two long hallways, might be a good place to sleep. It was also probably a boss room.
Mmm, and as I've opened the door with all of the WotC content, give me a reference and we can work with it
A young archeologist until recently, it was Onyx's discovery of a magical golden ring that first brought him into contact with Ralimgam, the Merciful--a noble Djinni looking for mages to act as his eyes and ears in various realms. Seeing the untapped potential in the young man (he'll pick up a single level of Storm Sorcerer later,) the powerful entity named the young man his warlock, gave him magical training, and within days had sent him to his first mission, a test of worthiness: a descent into the Abyss!
Witty, clever and practical, Onyx prepares for the journey ahead, hoping to discover more about the various realms he will visit, and add the experiences to his memoirs when retired.
Khazz’t was the result of a male noble Drow impregnating a human slave. Growing up as a slave underneath his own relatives, he knew he would do whatever it would take to escape that life. Learning quickly that the only way to ensure one did not get taken advantage of in life was to have power.
To get this power he made an oath. The Dark Elves worship no nice deities, so the only pledge he could think to make reflected the values of the society which raised him. He gained the treacherous and evil-tainted powers of the Drow goddess and used them to escape. Since coming to live among others he has found he has much to learn in a society not built on the destruction and manipulation of others. Of course the Abyss is a different thing altogether...
I intended PHB but I'm willing to hear out MOST of the WotC...

Pokemon? That's rookie stuff. Just wait till I stat out Grimlock, Ferocious King . . . from his Magic card!
Jokes aside, I asked because I was looking at an Aasimar Celestial Warlock for thematics and emergency healing. Now that another warlock beat me to the punch, I'm going to the other extreme - feral tiefling blood hunter. Feral Tiefling is SCAG, and I can share all content with a campaign if anyone's missing anything.
Meet Marchosias (or Marquis if I'm lazy)
Basic Concept: Archduchess of Avernus gives one of her tieflings a lycanthropic curse and arranges for him to kill a bunch of demons.
Rough Backstory:
Marchosias, also known as Marquis to some, was born to a long line of demons descending from Zariel, the archduchess of Avernus. An ancient blood pact forged by Marquis' ancestors ensured that all of the bloodline would serve the devil's ends in the Blood War against the demons. Some served in obvious, direct ways, some through a complicated chain of events. Some would be sent to serve after their death, some would serve while they still drew mortal breath.
Each generation of the bloodline was made aware of this pact, yet Marquis' mother attempted to escape it, taking him away from their family home, sensing something was different in him. Different even for a tiefling. He displayed unnatural bloodlust, getting into vicious fights with any other children his age, and he never stopped seeking answers to questions he shouldn't have even had.
Zariel became aware of this intended treachery, but allowed it to happen - because it needed to happen in order for Marquis to grow into the agent she desired. Under the light of a full-moon, a teenage Marquis lost his mind. When he awoke, his mother was slain before him, his hands and mouth soaked with her still-warm blood. Knowing immediately what happened, Marquis gathered his belongings and fled into the wilderness, living off the land. He could not escape his fate, but he could avoid harming others - at least for a while.
It has been several years since then, and Marquis has started to understand the nature of his curse. Zariel's task for him will soon begin, and her gift to him will soon awaken.
I’d be keen. Normally play magic users but would like to try a more melee class.
Have been thinking a Human Variant (with Inspirational Leader as my feat). Arbon is a fighter (battle master archetype) & uses a halberd rather than the usual sword & shield.
If it’s light on RP, then I’d go with a knight in training background. Arbon is trying to secure his noble position through daring adventures but is also a tactician, having studied battle tactics & the like (hence the battle master & inspirational leader).
I’m also happy to roll with something else, such as a tanking cleric, if the party needs more healing. If I was rolling with a cleric, I’d go with a forge domain cleric, but would keep the same background story.
CLASS: Warlock, Hexblade (Pact of the Blade, looking to take Polearm Master, Great Weapon Master - see if a warlock can turn into a killing machine with a Pact Weapon - Halberd)
BACKGROUND: Militia
Grixeor has lived by the sea his whole life, and having come of age followed his father into the militia guard (hence the martial direction with Hex Warrior) only to stumble upon a bottle washed up on shore one day that contained a corroded key. With curiousity getting the better of him he unstoppered the bottle and shook the key into his palm. Much to his horror he found himself suddenly unable to move, with the key somehow burning into his flesh. Screaming in pain, his mind was joined with another "WELCOME TO MY SERVICE MORTAL...SERVE ME WELL" to only words he heard before passing out. Waking, he opened his fist to find his palm bearing the brand of the key, and only a faint recollection of the presence that he experienced. Over the coming weeks he began to feel different, a latent dark power brewing, and had episodes of memory loss, being unable to account for time, and occaisionally finding himself somewhere that he had no idea where he was, and with an urge to seek out, something.....and with that Grix finds himself leaving his community in search of something or someone, but not knowing exactly who or why.
Sounds like a blast! I’d like to join. Variant Human Fighter or sorcerer.

Quick question: what do you mean by standard? Is it limited to just PHB races or does it include anything published by WotC?
Attending Academy until November, slowdown in posts continue.

Technically, they published the pokemon trading card game. If you can translate: "i wanna be a squirtle from the Pokémon TCG" as a level 1 Tortle Circle of Land: Costal Druid, maybe we can work something out 👍
So... Warlocks need not apply, then?
(This would otherwise be a great time to try out a Genie Warlock; but I presume UA isn't "Standard," correct?)
