Garn stares in some wonder. He was forced to go using magic? As if. Then his mother actually came out . His face got redder if anything and he put his foot down. Literally. "No. I'm fine right where I am, Ma. This has to stop, I'm not a child."
Jianyu gets a sense that Gurdis has riled up these folks and is perhaps already feeling that the ruckus is over proportionate.
Branka gives the crowd a tough stare.
"I am only trying to protect you Garn." Gurdis says.

Favoring his leg, injured fighting the wolves, Jianyu leans unnecessarily on his staff, adopting a wholly unthreatening demeanor. He steps forward, close to Gurdis, and speaks softly so as to be heard only by her. ((He says, "You're chasing Amy." No! He says,)) "You won't protect the boy by meeting him in the streets with rioters..." He nods toward the gathered mob with a pleading expression on his face. "Look at these people. No good will come if this." Then he takes a step back and leans on his staff with both hands. (Persuasion: 11, Advantage or disadvantage as DM sees fit: 9.)

"And you won't protect me if you keep treating me like a babe forever!" Garn understands her worry, they've lost friends and family to this curse. But he refused to cower in terror like the lot in front of him. "Go home, the lot of you!"
The mob begins to mumble in discussion and you can tell their confidence in their actions has diminished significantly. Gurdis speaks up again. "We must protect our own village from any possible threat, you've seen what happens when people go wondering around after hours. We have to be careful! Can no one see the sense in this?"
Some of the villages start to disperse.

Jianyu frowns, a bit disappointed. He turns and walks back toward his companions, placing an understanding hand on Garn's shoulder as he passes.
Jianyu approaches Ganessa and Tempest and, standing between them, he escorts them onward, walking confidently through the crowd toward the Golden Goat. He steals himself, ready to address or, more likely, ignore Gurdis' imminent protests.
Garn huffs at his mother. "And if no one does anything then it'll keep happening." Not that this had anything to do with the Vampire Queen, but they had to start somewhere. Garn remains stubbornly with his friends, whenever they choose to go.
As some of the crowd begins to disperse, Betrit regains some of his strength and is now fully standing on his own, though still behind Branka. Betrit is staring at Gurdis, waiting to see what she does next.
Gurdis' eyes well up as she addresses Garn again, "I dont want to loose you like I lost your sister and your Uncle."

As they reach the steps of the inn Jianyu looks back, the folks in the dispersing crowd may be a bit embarrased, but no harm has come. Jianyu pulls a small pipe from his pack and sits on the steps. He'll let Garn and his mother speak. They'll be able to work their troubles out.
Jianyu will stay near enough to help if anything unexpected happens.
He packs and lights his pipe and attempts to blow a ring of smoke. (Dex: 15)...
The puff wafts formlessly into the chill air. He shakes his head, disappointed.
Garn fiercely scowls as she reminds him of the family lost. "These people have nothing to do with that and you know it." The human woman had been attacked by wolves, not undead or monsters.
Betrit, still fairly rooted to his spot is slowly returning to himself as other leave. He makes a note of the lost uncle and sister, things to ask Garn about later, when Betrit is not surrounded by others.
Tempest smiled at Jianyu and appreciated his gesture to protect her and Ganessa from the mob. She is thankful that her allies were able to disperse part of the crowd on her behalf. She knew the dwarven people, and they could be incredibly stubborn. The tiefling frowned as she heard Gurdis' plea. That explained everything. After all, Tempest was in the area to avoid sharing that same fate... Though this woman riled people up against Tempest, she couldn't fault the woman too much.
The tiefling decided to let Garn handle his mother. He was trying to be a man, and it wouldn't do to interfere.

Garn and Gurdis talk into the evening. No real agreement achieved, with stubbornness on both sides, however when they eventually part ways Garn manages to gain enough (if only just) respect from his mother that she reluctantly let's him be. With that out of the way Amber Strakeln promises to take care of Ganessa until she's "back on her feet" as Amber put it. Several hours later with a free meal in your bellies and a nights rest at the Golden Goat, you arise the next day to yet another frost bitten day. Today is the day you will climb the mountain.
[if you need any equipment for your journey, or have any downtime activities you want to take care of, send me a PM - you have about 2 hours before it's time to set off up the mountain]
A harsh wind carries stinging pellets of tough hale stone across the steep winding mountain path making you barely able to see where you are going. The hale stone seems to seek out every exposed piece of flesh you have and when it makes contact with your skin you feel the rapid bite of its impact. Up and up you climb under a canopy of dark cloud which obscures the peaks that rise above you. You make a small camp fire at which you rest for a short time not really knowing if midday has come or gone. Perched on the rocky ledge high in the Craving Mountains the village of Ruthenia below has disappeared under the thick mountain mist. Even your breath released upon the cold air creates a fat cloud of obscuring smoke.
Leaving the small comfort of the warm fire behind, you take up your journey once more, higher and higher you climb and for every step you take the mountain path seems to become steeper, narrower and more treacherous. After what seems like forever you reach the pinnacle of your ascent. As if from nowhere a gigantic stone fortress reveals itself through the depths of the mists that fogged your vision. A lofty stone archway carved into the masonry contains a large heavy set of iron doors that stand closed before you.

Betrit scans the building seeing if anything sparks his memory (History16). Only a short few moments pass before Branka nudges him. "Ye, we'll get inside, just wanted a quick look."
Tempest, curious about the iron doors, tests it with a push to open. She isn't sure she had ever heard of this place being here, as most of her tutelage came down to the histories of Ar Toe and not much about the small town of Ruthenia.
