Arisys: For the first time, Fharlanghn has spoken to you. It was little more than a nudge in this direction, but his intentions were clear. With a heavy heart, you bade farewell to your long-time companions and travelled to the Yawning Portal. You have been there for three days, looking for a sign of what to do next.
Lar-Dun: Ever since being dragged into your patron’s service, you have been avoiding civilization. Its sadistic whims frighten you, and you don’t want to hurt anyone. But, supplies are running low, and you have been forced to venture into the city for a few hours to restock. You sit at the Yawning Portal, waiting on the arrival of a merchant who has offered you a particularly good deal, more anxious to leave with every passing minute.
Summer: Being raised among adventurers, you have eagerly anticipated going on a quest of your own. Finally, your parents have allowed you to venture out into the world. You travel to Greyhawk City, hoping that the large population means more chances to find adventure. Recalling your parents’ stories, which frequently begin in a tavern, you head to the Yawning Portal.
Genken: The Yawning Portal is an effective location to operate. The crowds promote anonymity, as well as provide a variety of people to swindle, cheat, and blackmail. As such, you frequent the location. That is where you are tonight, watching over the populace from the shadows.
Ondrej: After leaving your tribe, you have traveled between cities, searching for ways to increase your strength and prove your work. You’ve worked countless jobs, but all have passed without incident. Simply put, you’re going stir-crazy. You hope that maybe the Yawning Portal will provide a bit more excitement.
It's late in the evening, and the Yawning Portal is bustling with life. Chatter fills the air as servers weave their way between crowded tables. The central taproom sits on the first floor, but the long balconies overlooking the space from the second and third floors also seat many patrons. Two spiral staircases located in opposite corners of the room lead up to these areas. You are all seated along the main bar that spans the back wall of the tavern.
The main attraction of the venue is the gaping well in the center of the first floor. It’s about forty feet in diameter and surrounded by a three-foot-high stone wall. Peering down it, you can see nothing but darkness. A thick rope suspended from a pulley system in the rafters dangles over the hole. Those brave, foolish, or drunk enough can pay a gold coin to be lowered down into the depths. It’s well known that exploring the dungeon below is a suicide mission, but on the rare occasion that someone returns, they do so laden with riches beyond belief. This sliver of hope is enough to fuel frequent expeditions by adventurers, though they tend to depart during less crowded hours. Tonight, you have seen a handful of particularly tipsy individuals make the trip down, only to be hoisted back up immediately, cheered on by their equally intoxicated friends.
The coppery skinned, slender dragon born sits at the bar, sipping occasionally as he scans the room. Just looking at him, you can tell he's the "more brains than brawn" type. He looks back and forth along the bar at the others sitting there - a gnome, a couple of humans, a goliath, and him a dragon born. He chuckles to himself, Almost the start of a bad joke... he thinks to himself. Finally curiosity gets the better of him and he turns to the gnome. "Good evening, miss gnome," he bows his head slightly, "I've seen you here a few days now. What brings you to such an... endearing little watering hole?"
(OOC: feel free to have that conversation resolve before Ondrej's action, don't want to cut anyone short)
The goliath tilts back on his stool, finishing the last of his ale. Setting the tankard down heavily on the bar, he stands and arches his back in a stretch, his broad shoulders displaying the dark markings that stretch across his gray skin like bolts of lightning. With a tilt of his head to one side he loudly cracks his neck before lifting a bundle of javelins leaning against the bar and slinging them over his shoulder. He tightens the leather straps securing the massive stone-bladed greatsword to his back, closes his eyes, breathes in deeply, and lets out a belch. Pushing away from the bar, he turns toward the crowd surrounding the pit in the center of the room. "Seems like all the excitement to be had here is down that hole. I'm going to go have some fun, if anyone wants to come watch" he says to no one in particular.
As Ondrej is moving towards the well, he is approached by a human man who slings an arm over Ondrej's shoulders. The man has scraggly brown hair and is obviously quite drunk. "Heyyy," he slurs, pausing to take a gulp from the large tankard in his hand. "Listen here. You could pay tha' there man," he points to where the owner of the tavern stands behind the bar, "One gold piece to go down this here hole. Or, I could pay you fifty gold pieces to go down a diff'rent hole." He gestures with his tankard as he speaks, sloshing ale onto the floor.
A dirty blonde-haired man sits at the bar, cup in hand, though he rarely takes a sip. He fears that too much to drink could land him in trouble, and not because he would be drunk. He takes another anxious look around the tavern, before determining that the merchant is not arriving tonight. Damn shame too. I need those supplies... Lar-Dun thinks to himself. He stands up from his stool and approaches the well. He looks down into it, and as a series of images flood back into his mind, he backs away, slightly pained. The hole reminds him too much of the endless void that the vile being who now holds sway over him crawled out of. He leans against a nearby post and watches the Goliath.

"Er, no- I don't- uh..." Ondrej takes a step back and gingerly picks the man's arm off of his shoulder. "That's very flattering but I'm not looking for that kind of excitement" he stammers, clearly misreading the situation.
"What?" The man furrows his brow, taking a moment to process the words. Suddenly, his eyes widen. "Oh! No. No! Actual hole. In the ground. Bit like this one 'ere. Legend has it, there's a magic apple growin' there. Cures any disease. Would get it myself, but I'm no' the adventurin' type."
The man seems to believe what he's telling you, but you wonder if his drunkenness is causing him to embellish a bit.
"Certainly. Haven't been down there m'self, but the stories say it's well-guarded. Like I said, I'll pay fifty gold for your troubles, another hundred if you actually bring the apple back. Ya migh' want to bring a couple friends with you."
Overhearing the drunk offer gold for the magical apple, Genken spins on his stool and pipes up. "What could you possibly need such an apple for? Though the gold is tempting, I'd like to see proof you've got such a pouch full," he gestures to the surrounding room, "This is not the most decadent of places, so such a bounty of gold is hard to come by."
Arisys sits atop her stool as a bird would sit upon a perch, her feet dangling off the edge no where close to reaching the bar where one's feet should rest. She stares into her now empty mug, but looks up expectantly every time the door of the Yawning Portal opens to allow another patron inside. The gnome jumps from fright almost falling off of her chair when she hears the looming figure of the dragonborn speak to her. Needing to right herself, she shifts her weight forward to put the stool back on all four legs. "Who me...???" She starts to say excitedly, "I'm wai...." But just then the dragonborn rises from his stool to discuss something with a couple other patrons. "Maybe he wasn't talking to me." She thought to herself. A little excitement drains from her face, but she remains hopeful that Fharlanghn will send her a sign. She turns to watch the conversation between the other patrons. "Maybe the dragonborn will come back."
Lar-Dun perks up slightly at the mentioning of so much gold, but his interests are quickly quashed when he realizes three men are already discussing it. "Damn already. Where's that merchant? I can't wait forever. Or at least I don't want to."Lar-Dun says to himself. But at the same time, all this revelry, hanging out at the Yawning Portal, it reminds him of how things used to be, and he just can't leave and give it all up once more.

Summer was deep in her book His Majesty's Courtier when she heard a voice mention a magic apple and gold. She turned her attention to the conversation that was occurring at the table next to her. She could barely hide the excited look that came over her face. The auburn curly-haired young woman arrived at Greyhawk City for this kind of opportunity. Adventuring was in her blood and she aimed to make her mark. Not only that, but she wanted to pave the way for future restless spirits, like her parents and their allies have done for her. This conversation about a magic apple was the first step towards that journey.
Summer was looking in the direction of the conversation, her expression making purposely obvious that she was eavesdropping, staring a little too long from behind her book.

Arisys, you feel a push in the back of your mind. It's hardly there, but even so it contrasts sharply with the past three days' silence.
"I'm representin' a party who wishes to remain anonymous. I don't know wha' he wants it for, just tha' he's willin' to pay very well for whoever can get it." He considers approaching the Dragonborn, but waits out of politeness so he can finish his conversation with the gnome.
