I'm planning on DMing OotA (Out of the Abyss). I am a moderately experienced DM, but this will be my first pbp. I'll be learning, so don't flame me too much please :)
If you want to join, post below the specifics I ask for. I'll pick my favorite ones and will make a party of 4-6ish players. When combat comes around, I would like to pick a time were we could all be on to fight so combat won't last for two weeks. If that just doesn't work with everyone's schedules, we'll just go to back to normal.
I need the following:
Character name
Race
Class (level 2)
Ability scores (4d6 drop lowest, place where you want, reroll if below a total of 75)
3 words that describe your character's personality (optional)
Background
Backstory (the better this is, the more likely you are to be chosen 😉)
OotA starts out with your characters in a drow jail cell. Make sure to include how you got in there in your backstory.
You can use all sourcebooks and UA, including the Mystic class if you want. No homebrew is allowed.
I forgot to say earlier that the drow stripped you of all your posessions. You will start with no gear except for the clothes (if they could be called that) on your back.

Hex Blade Warlock
Ability scores:8 STR 15 DEX 15 CON 11 INT 13 WIS 18 CHA

Background: Criminal
Backstory:
Zack sat in the Drow cell and rested the back of his head on the rocky cell wall as his mind drifted into the the details of just how he had gotten here. Well it seemed inevitable. Zacks father was all the rage in Drow society. Literal RAGE. They hated my father for turning his back on everything the Drow believed in. They hated him for defeating them so many times and protecting the surface. They must have hated Zack just as much if not more, since he is an abomination to Drow ideals. The mix of their most hated but respected kin, and of a no body woman of no noble blood but a Hero in her own right. To top it all off, Zack was named after his grandfather. The young Half-Drow shook his head in disbelieving amazement. Did fate, if there was such a thing, hate him so? Was it fate to decide that he was weak and no where near close in skill to his father. The only reason Zack had even made it this far in life was on borrowed power. A strange shadow that inhabited a weapon he had found in his first adventure by himself. He had set off to best a cave of a few goblins by himself, but he had not been fully trained by his father who was always out helping the world on adventures. The inexperienced Zack was captured, and beaten by the goblins who kept him alive in their cave because he intimidated them with the threat of his father's wrath, who they knew. In that cave a dagger in the pack of a poor lost soul the goblins had made their victim, called to Zack. The first opportunity he had, he sneaked for the pack and retrieved the weapon. It mocked Zack's use of his father as leverage against the goblins, thought it cowardly. It recommended being tossed to one of the goblins since they seemed to be a more suitable creature to wield so fine a blade, seeing as they caught the son of The Legendary Drow Hero. Zach mocked back, "Oh and how fine a bade that it could not save it's previous owner, and how idiotic it did not call the goblins sooner" countered Zack internally. All the while his hand worked to cut the binds and free him. An internal banter between him and the dagger carried on as a magical force surrounded him and the goblins turned. Back and forth did Zack and Id, the Black, who inhabited the dagger that night, go. Toxic quip back and forth between the two new friends as the goblins fell before them. In the end, Zack could only thank Id, because he knew that an ever living being that has been passed down for, gods know how long, must be, lonely. So Zack accepted to be a temporary home and Id offered it's power.
But it seemed the pair had gone too far. Zack was looking to find his past and had gone too deep too quickly. He was witnessing his kin first hand. Id was with him, but his weapon was not. Did the Drow know who he was? Did they know who his father was? He and Id both hope not. They hold hope that their captures would just let him go after a beating or some such. That would be a mercy. Zack and Id were in the Drow city and got into a minor scuffle. A dumb bar fight. It was dangerous because Zack is as foreigner, but they didn't have to know from where. God he Held even more hope that this wasn't Menzo-whatever his dad said. Either way, escape and hide and escape were the plans. He could feel Id laughing at the thought.

Ability scores: 141215161412
Character name: Caelynn Ravenwood
Race: Wood elf
Class: Ranger
Ability scores (rearranged and including race bonuses): 13 18 15 15 14 10
3 words that describe your character's personality: Stubborn, compassionate, calculated
Background: Soldier
Backstory: Caelynn grew up in the large but hidden elven city of Aysethyr. From a young age, she was fascinated with archery, and devoted much of her time to studying it. When she was old enough, she joined the city's guard, and spent an uneventful decade protecting it from what few threats it faced. Early in her eleventh year on the guard, the high council began suspecting that a nearby drow faction was planning to move against them. They sent a group of five scouts, including Caelynn, down into the Underdark.
It was meant to be a short mission - they would gather as much information on the drow's affairs as they could, then return to Aysethyr after a week. On their way back to the surface, they found that the passage they'd traveled down had caved in. It took eight months of desperately searching for another exit before they finally admitted defeat. This was where they would spend the rest of their lives. They made a camp that lasted for three months before it was discovered and ambushed by the drow. Caelynn, the only survivor of the attack, was taken in for questioning, but she suspected her execution was not far in the future.

Cheerful, Adventurous, Bold
Background: Folk Hero
Osdant was once a mere hedge wizard, but he showed off his magical aptitude when his gnome village was attacked by orcs. His quick ingenuity and magical illusions confused the orcs and saved his kin from total destruction. Grateful, the village payed for him to leave and fulfill his dream of traveling the world. He’s never one to pass up adventure, though his curious nature gets him in trouble too often. He was on an expedition into the depths of the earth when he found a passage into the Underdark. However, drow scouts quickly found him, and now he is their captive...
Glasaf, being of a criminal bent of thought, was always keeping an ear to the ground for rumors and tidbits of information that would allow him to accomplish his goal of self-enrichment, or as he put it, self-improvement. One tidbit that caught his ear was of a dagger, to be found in the realms of the Drow. A dagger for one who would walk the pathways of night, an assassins blade, an instrument of murder. Just the sort of weapon he could use to good effect in advancing his plans for himself. Careful and surreptitious investigation and questioning found him entering the dark world of the Drow in search of his treasure. That a relatively inexperienced naif like Glasaf should be able to enter the Underdark, steal a malignant and valuable blade, the likes of which he sought, and waltz out again unscathed was, to be generous, a bit ... unwise? Whether the rumor was a lure set by the Drow to entrap future slaves, or one laid by someone seeking revenge (he knew of a few who were likely candidates), or for some other unfathomable reason is not really important at this point. What is important is that Glasaf's weird brought him into this Drow dungeon and, more importantly, that weird hangs like an opaque veil blinding him to his future beyond the present moment. And that moment is a bit grim, but, Glasaf is nothing if not devious, underhanded and cunning; so something should come about which will give him a momentary advantage and allow him to further his most pressing and immediate plan for self-improvement: Escape!
Glasaf had always been a disreputable sort of fellow, keeping his eyes and ears open for anything that would further his goals for himself - self-enrichment being the most prominent detail of his plans. One rumor, of the sort he paid attention to, was that there could be found in the realms of the Drow a special blade, suitable for one who would walk the pathways of night, an assassins blade, a weapon of murder. Just the sort of item Glasaf saw as desirable and he began to covet its like. Careful listening and questions lead him finally to the bowels of the Underdark, searching for his 'birthright'; least-ways that is what he kept telling himself. All seemed to be going well but, that an impetuous naif, as Glasaf in reality was, should be able to enter the darkness of the Drow, steal a valuable and malignant weapon as rumor held to be there and come out again unscathed was a bit ... optimistic? Thus he found himself captured. The a result of a clever trap set by the Drow to ensnare slaves or a viciously successful act of revenge on the part of one of Glasaf's many previous victims will, perhaps, never be known. The hand Glasaf's weird has dealt him in the present caused him to re-evaluate his plans for self-enrichment to first and foremost be focused upon one goal: Escape!
Hmmmm? That was completely bizarre, came back to check after I 'posted' the first Glasaf and he wasn't there; sooo.... I do like the second one better, but the first was first, so I would assume that this is a doppleganger and not to be trusted; not that either one should be given your mother's pearls or anything.

Character name: Aimon Silvertongue
Race: Half-Elf
Class (level 2): Rogue
Ability scores (4d6 drop lowest, place where you want, reroll if below a total of 75):
Ability scores: 141510121414 = 73
Reroll: Ability scores: 151816151116 = 90, um, yeah, I think I can live with these - but let me know if they're too high and I can roll again.
Adjusted scores: 16,13,9,15,18,13
3 words that describe your character's personality: Glib, daring, mischievous
Background: Noble
Backstory: Aimon is the rare half-elf who had the good fortune of growing up in a happy home. His human mother and elf father both love each other and him. His father, Iolas Silvertongue is a lord on the ruling council of Myls Dorthore, a secluded elven city in a forested valley. His mother was a diplomat. Aimon has never wanted for anything and has gotten the best schooling and tutors. But Aimon has always had a restless, mischievous streak, and being handed everything all the time gets a bit boring. He's a self taught Rogue who loves stealing and spying and sneaking around just for the thrill of it. His parents have always been there to bail him out except this time he has gone too far.
It started with the most shocking of events - a Drow emissary arriving in Myls Dorthore. The tension in the air made Aimon think of imminent lightning. The Drow was taken directly to Aimon's father and his mother acted as a moderator between the two. Aimon never found out what brought the Drow to Myls Dorthore, nor did he particularly care. He only had eyes for the golden, bejeweled broach that acted as a clasp on the Drow's cloak. That he must get. After what seemed like an eternity, the marathon session between his father and the Drow ended and their 'guest' was shown the visitor's villa near the waterfall. Aimon snuck in through the upstairs window, something he had done so often that he moved off of muscle memory alone. And that cocky overconfidence ended up with a branch snapping, a desperate lunge through the window, and something smacking him on the back of his head, and then nothing.
Nothing that is until he awoke in a drow jail cell.

Background: Sailor
Backstory:
Trill, as she is called by others, was often viewed with suspicion by folks with a less than generous opinion of kenku. And while she certainly engages in the mischief and petty deception and thievery that her race is stereotyped with, it's never targeted at someone who doesn't need to be brought down a peg or two, or who can't afford a blow to their ego or coin purse. She's a bit of a collector, the first thing she collected being curse words in as many languages she was exposed to, much to the dismay of her family. She tended to pocket anything of value left lying about, and eventually had enough coin to indulge her interest in music, having an innately gifted ear for tone and tune. She purchased and practiced with any new instruments she came across, and had quite a collection, though she was much better with some than others.
Her name when she says it, is a series of vocalized notes that non-kenku can best approximate with the descriptive "Trill". Growing up in a port town, she ran with the other children, but was always drawn to the ships that entered and left the harbor. It also helped that sailors were a steady source of new and inventive curses, and while a bit more insular, they were a lot less judgmental, once you met with their approval. As a young kenku, she ran messages for sailors, helped them procure the sort of things that sailors away at sea might be looking for when they came into port, whether it be un-watered liquor, or tobacco, or information on where the best place to gamble and drink their leave away might be. She spent many a night listening to the raucous sailor songs of her hometown.
Her rough and tumble life naturally led to her taking a position aboard a ship when she was old enough, and it was everything she hoped. While it was initially played as a joke, she was a natural fit for the crow's nest, her nimbleness allowing her to quickly navigate the ropes of the rigging, and her exceptional eyesight and loud voice allowing her to spot and alert the crew to dangers on the horizon. The best part about being the lookout, though, was the freedom, and the sensation of flight. Being a kenku, and being grounded by an ancestral curse, she and every other of her race was left with a yearning to take the the skies... standing in the crow's nest with her arms outstretched filled her with a joy she'd never known.
While aboard TheCurl, she continued practicing her music, often borrowing crewmember's voices and sounds she'd heard to mix with the notes of her lyre, much to the amusement and near universal acclaim of the crew.
Unfortunately, her time at sea didn't last, her ship being set upon by pirates that ran them down and boarded the ship, slaughtering the crew. She loosed bolts on them from the rigging as best she could, but they were too many, and too vicious. She was the last of the crew alive, as a pirate climbed the rigging to look survivors. In a panic, she conjured the illusion of a crate full of coconuts, and curled up inside it... her deception was enough to fool the pirate, who didn't question why a crate of coconuts would be at the top of the mast.
She made it ashore, after the pirates scuppered the ship, and has spent the last three years tracking them down, taking short term gigs aboard other ships, but keeping her head down and just doing the minimum asked. She eventually tracked their activities to find that they'd stopped slaughtering the crew of ships they took, but instead capturing as many as possible and selling them into slavery to the drow. The trail went cold, however, other than a lead on where the drow surface to make the exchange. Perhaps if she could infiltrate and eavesdrop on one of the drow slavers, she could get a clue to the whereabouts of the pirate crew...
...unfortunately, things did not go as planned, and she was captured by the drow, who took all of her things and left her to rot in this stupid cell.

3 words that describe your character's personality: Passionate, Eloquent, Uncompromising
Backstory: Thrust into the world to rid the lands from the evil forces plaguing them, Alkanos had been groomed to be an effective weapon in the eternal struggle between good and evil. His life had purpose and he gladly dedicated himself to it. He learned how to fight with sword, quill and word. When the young Aasimar finally reached the appropriate age he was introduced into a knightly order as a squire. He served well and eventually was granted a knighthood. But even though his carreer advanced at an enviable speed, he often had to battle his inner demons. Witnessing the tremendous suffering so many innocent people had to endure, had lasting consequences on Alkanos' character. While he manged to retain his passionate nature, this passion more and more often was fueled by anger, wrath and the will to annihilate evil by every means necessary.
A few weeks ago Alkanos led a detachment of his order into the Underdark to investigate recent drow activity in the region. They soon made contact with a cohort of drow warriors, which they promptly attacked and put to flight after inflicting heavy casualties. Against the counsel of his second in command and other members of the expedition, he kept pressing after the retreating drow. A decision that cost him and his men dearly. They fell into an ambush and Alkanos' men were cut down to the last man. The aasimar himself was knocked unconscious during the battle and taken prisoner by the drow.

Name: Tobi Race: Fire Genasi Class: Druid (Circle of Dreams) Three Words: Fearless, Humble, Awkward Background: Soldier Backstory: Tobi is the only daughter and child of Pumice, a genasi dockworker. Tobi and her father lived alone in a small apartment, her mother never spoken about, and only vague comments made when the young genasi asked about her. Her father worked hard to give them a decent life in Waterdeep. As she grew up, she took some small jobs to help, and as soon as she was old enough, she joined the City Guard. Tobi, being a bright eyed youth, saw it as a way to earn some coin while doing something worthwhile. Her father, while concerned with her decision, still tried to support her as best he could. The young genasi was not very good at wielding weapons, but she was too stubborn to give up. After around two and a half years after joining, she and some of her fellow guards were protecting the roads outside the city, when they were jumped by bandits. Tobi was left badly injured, due to a bit of overconfidence and an attempt to help one of her friends. In the chaos of the battle left behind, thought to be dead. She was saved, however, by a druid, an elf named Trella, who helped her recover. Tobi decided to stay with the elf, at first to help them, and figure out some things. As time went on, she ended up as more of an apprentice to her. The pair spent several years together, Trella teaching Tobi about her duties, which the genasi soaked up with interest. Antsy with being cooped up in one area, confident in her abilities, and wanting to help more people again, Tobi struck it out on her own. During her time travelling, she heard rumors about drow slavers in the area. Deciding to do some investigating, she started to track their whereabouts. She was not as sneaky as expected however. One minute she was following a drow, trying to see where they would lead, and the next, she was hit by a poisoned dart, and finding the ground rather comfortable. Waking up in a cell, she now has found the slavers, but now has to escape, maybe even help some others.

Rashik Glittergem is a svirfneblin from a quiet village in the upper portions of the Underdark. A village that has been raided by drow many times for many different reasons, be that slaves or be that sacrifices. Rashik was tired of it, unwilling or unable to standby while his village suffers despite his cowardice. He snuck his way to the surface to get some help, and found a wizard who taught him some basic spells. Spells for defense, which he had a knack for due to his fearful nature. He returned home to his village and did, in fact, help defend it against drow incursions for a while...
Until he ran out of spells during one, and was captured by the drow. Now thrown into a prison, he has to figure out how he is going to get out and get home... Or at least make being captured worth it, even as he tries so hard to confront his fears!
Question though: Do wizards get to keep their spellbooks?

I'm planning on DMing OotA (Out of the Abyss). I am a moderately experienced DM, but this will be my first pbp. I'll be learning, so don't flame me too much please :)
If you want to join, post below the specifics I ask for. I'll pick my favorite ones and will make a party of 4-6ish players. When combat comes around, I would like to pick a time were we could all be on to fight so combat won't last for two weeks. If that just doesn't work with everyone's schedules, we'll just go to back to normal.

Hex Blade Warlock
Ability scores:8 STR 15 DEX 15 CON 11 INT 13 WIS 18 CHA
3 words that describe your character's personality: Sarcastic, Benevolent, Angry

Class: Ranger

Glasaf Rhywun
Human Rogue [Lone-wolf Criminal]
Devious Underhanded Cunning
Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.

Glasaf Rhywun
Human Rouge [Aspiring Assassin]
Devious Underhanded Cunning

Ability scores: STR 10 | DEX 18 | CON 16 | INT 11 | WIS 16 | CHA 17
3 words that describe your character's personality (optional): Impudent, Headstrong, Impish
While aboard The Curl, she continued practicing her music, often borrowing crewmember's voices and sounds she'd heard to mix with the notes of her lyre, much to the amusement and near universal acclaim of the crew.

Background: Knight of the Order

Name: Tobi
Race: Fire Genasi
Class: Druid (Circle of Dreams)
Three Words: Fearless, Humble, Awkward
Background: Soldier
Backstory: Tobi is the only daughter and child of Pumice, a genasi dockworker.
