Val will look around the ship and see if he can figure out who is in charge of doling out responsibilities. Once he finds someone - "Pardon, I prefer to keep busy and my studies will not consume all of my time. Can you teach me something of sailing, how the sails work, how you read the currents, navigation....." Val will just keep rattling off all the things he could be learning.
"Also, do you have space for me to practice with my weapon?"

Though the crew eventually managed to navigate their way out of the whirlpool, Saiba continued to grip the railing rather fiercely well after they passed that potential danger; discovering to his chagrin that he was not quite as comfortable on the open seas as I had thought. Eventually extricating himself from the rail, he'll spend the next few days keeping his mind busy by pacing around the ship and keeping a fairly vigilant eye for anymore whirlpools or other threats to the ship.
Over the course of the trip, Weizol would have softened up slightly as the pressure of being on the same ship as a bunch of Drow alleviated if only a little. During the day he does his duty as a guard, picking a high vantage point so he can see any problems approaching.
He maintains a very business-like attitude towards strangers (which, at this point is basically everyone excpept Vallen), he seems to hold agreements and duty in high regard. He seems like a completely different person when interacting with Vallen Kvolhaven though, laughing and joking around easily.
(Yeah, sorry. If we're still interested in this if/when JumpierPoet returns, we can start back up. Otherwise, we're on a break for the foreseeable future.)

(Was just waiting to see if you wanted to discuss a bit more, but we'll go right ahead with the encounters now.)
The first encounter is 1 reef sharks, but the boat is large enough that they don't attack and just swim off.
The second encounter is category 1 Whirlpool. The crew didn't notice it until just before beginning to enter it, so they must make some checks.

Okay, since no one got below a 5, you manage to make it through the whirlpool without being sucked to another plane of existence.

"Wow! Did you see that thing? Tymora's tits this has been a fun ride! What were we going to Luskan for again?"
Weizol doesn't even bother to answer that as he goes about his business.
