You have woken up early on Christmas morning expecting to see presents left under your Christmas tree. However, you find that there are no presents under your tree. In fact, your Christmas tree has disappeared too. It seems that someone has stolen it all.
Instead, where you expect to see your presents and tree, you see a note left on the floor;
“Neener! I took all your stuff!! At sunrise Christmas Day, I shall drop it all into the Astral Plane, thereby ending this horrible holiday forever! - Dresden the Lich PS I ate all the cookies and drank all the milk, too!”
It seems that dastardly the lich, Dresden, that lives in the tower on top of the nearby mountain has stolen all of your presents and tree. Not to mention eating the cookies and drinking the milk that you had left for Santa Claus. What's more, he is planning to drop it all into the Astral Plane where it surely will never be seen again.
Thankfully, being this far north and it is Christmas Day, the sun won't be rising until much later. However, it does mean that time is limited until Dresden drops everything into the astral plane.
Somebody has to stop him, and you decide that someone will be you.
As you prepare for facing the mountain, and whatever the lich might have hidden in his tower, you realise that some of your most precious magical items have gone missing too!
Then there is only one thing for it, that lich must pay.

Best takes a look around and begins to get very angry! "Enough! we must find this "Lich who stole our Christmas" and make him pay! Who is with me?" Best begins to make preparations.
Cade frowns at the empty area where the tree once stood. He glances to the walls, where his prized magic items once hung. He then sighs and reads the letter.
"Don't you know anything?" He asks the air, knowing the evil liche is too far away to hear. "Christmas is not about these things you stole, but about the spirit inside, which we all hold..."
"Even so, this cannot be left alone. This evil being has much for which to atone." He moves to his door, and steps out. There he sees others, coming out of their homes with a shout.
Gesturing to the sky above, Cade transformed himself into a dove.
"Who will go with, this liche to find?" Cade says into each of the other's mind.
Nephris wakes to find the missing decorations and magical items from his collection. He reads the note several times, in disbelief, at the foul lich's words and actions, but then again, why is he so surprised. He spins on his heels as his mind is filled with a voice calling for aid in getting to the lich. "Well then, at least it won't be a lonely journey on this wonderful holiday." He grabs his pack and lute, throwing each over a shoulder, and makes his way out into the street. As he wanders along the street, he casts a minor illusion to make a firework blast of greens, reds and whites blasting high over his head. "Hopefully this will bring the attention of any others looking for this lich as well."
Katharine was excited to get up on Chrismas morning to open her presents and be merry with the rest of the people of Ostenwold. As she climbs out of bed, her long blonde hair falls around her shoulders. She quickly walks over to the location of her tree and sees that its missing. She pulls a frown at the empty space where her tree should be, along with her presents.
She throws on a coat, before stepping outside into the freezing air. She looks around and sees that many of her neighbours are also looking as baffled and as confused as she is feeling.
Upon hearing the voice in her head calling for help, Katharine disappears back into her home and quickly pulls on her leathers, grabs her tome and her crystal. Then as she steps out into the cold air once more, she summons a longsword into her hand.
Storm smiles wide as the day is here for the greatest time of joy. He gets out of bed anticipating the new tankard and weapons that Santa may have brought him to adventure with. However, when he comes down the stairs his eyes go wide with surprise. The presents are missing and a note left for him to try and read. Making out some of the words he just lets out an angry roar as he grabs his weapons and heads out "He will suffer." he says under his breath as he begins to make his way out of his house. He begins to look for anyone else who may be trying to track the lich down.
"The liche up there is frightful, but we'll make him delightful." Cade speaks into the other's minds again. "Let us go, let us go, let us go..." He flutters his wings, circling the group, then heading onward towards the mountain.
Best Holiday steps out and hears in his mind the call from Cade. "
The Ostenwald people deserve better this year, the Ostenwald people deserve Christmas cheer! I'll join you in finding this terrible liche, I'll join you in this hunt that you pitch. I'll join you in stopping this sadness and fear, I'll join you in fighting for holiday cheer! This liche must not stop us, this liche has to go, this liche cannot take away Christmas OH NO!"
Best calls to his warhorse "On Dasher" and calls his owl "On Vixon, we join with Cade to the top of the tower to the top of Dresden's hall, now dash away dash away dash away all!"
As you all gather at the foot of Cumpit Mountain, you look up at the cylindrical tower that rises from the rock, like the hilt of a grey dagger. Through its myriad windows and arrow slits, you see strange light glowing throughout. And over the howl of the blizzard, you almost swear that you can hear the ceaseless cackle of the mad lick himself.
(OOC - I'm going to assume we know each other, after all, we do all live in this town and are competent adventurers.)
Nephris pulls his coat up around his ears to keep warm in the blizzard. Seeing some stones along the road, you gather them up and use Prestidigitation to warm them up, then pass them around to everyone in the group, "Here you go my friends. It's been a while since we had a bit of a jaunt together. And while I'm excited to be out solving mysteries with you, there's no use in us freezing entirely out here! Enjoy some warmth for an hour or so."
(OOC - also, I'm no where near as capable of making rhymes like you guys, so I'll keep it as jovial as I can. If I were to try and rhyme it all, I'd be here all day trying to figure it out haha)
Best halt's his mount for a moment in front of Nephris "Thank you Nephris, this will be most welcome as we move through this blizzard." He places the stone in the glove pouch of his jacket.
Cade lands nearby, transforming again, this time into a massive Mamoth. His words sound in the other's minds still. "It will be good to be out doing things again." He says mentally.
Cade then starts to lead the way up towards the castle.
As you all begin to climb Crumpit Mountain, the view of the tower begins to grow bigger as you draw closer up and around the mountain. With the tower being so large and so tall, it is difficult to determine whereabouts Dresden would be hiding inside.
After climbing for half an hour in the heavy blizzard, you make it to the top of the mountain and to the main entrance door. All that is left is to try and find a way into the tower.

As Katharine is passed the heated stone, she graciously accepts it as she places it in a pocket of her coat.
"Yes, it has been. But let's go sort this lich out once and for all."

Best will ride up to the entrance and try the door while sending Vixon (owl familiar) to the left to investigate possible entry elsewhere.
Lot's of stuff ...
Katharine walks over to the door and studies it.
"Well, this seems to be the main door. Though I'm not sure if it would be as easy as just walking in. There might be a trap of some sort."
(Investigation: 18)
Cade speaks mentally again... "I can try to break it down if you wish..."
Storm just holds the stone before shoving it into his pocket and nodding. As they reach the door he just grunts "I can just break it down."
