That violence ensued out of what looked like a perfectly calm predicament was a specialist subject where Thokk was concerned, so Delanra was hardly surprised when their companion assaulted the half-ogre. As much as she would prefer to just pay a gold and walk away, perhaps she pushed a bit too far and the knuckle-brained Gorth was too stubborn to actually understand reason and her subtle manipulation of the language... She judged the half-ogre to be a pit too big for any poison to take effect quickly enough to be useful, fortunately there was always fire.
She shrugged to herself and backed as far away from the conflict as she could within the confines of the alley. Her eyes flared and her power coalesced into a small, searing hot sphere that streaked towards Gorth.
Action: Fire bolt - Attack: 11 Damage: 9 Movement: Up to 30ft away from teh melee, using any available boxes etc in the alley as cover.

As Gorth turns to face Thokk, your friend quickly pivots his first swing for another strike directly into the larger half-ogre's chest, briefly knocking the wind out of him. As he struggles for his next breath, Delanra fires a spell at the brute's back, causing a sharp intake of air.
Gorth snarls again, apparently not a fan of being attacked from behind. Or maybe he doesn't like magic. Potentially both.
He lifts his axe and bellows with rage before swinging it mightily down at Thokk. His axe is rather dull and chipped but, with enough force, could certainly still cut through an enemy. Gorth seems somewhat less concerned about non-lethality.
Attack: 21 Damage: 15
Thokk easily deflects the blow with his shield, seemingly to Gorth's surprise. The big guy stands there confused for a moment as the rest of the party springs into action!
"Really, now. I must protest," Halis sighs as he pulls free his double-bladed scimitar and brings it down on Gorth. Leaning back, he flips the blade and swings the back end of it towards Gorth's head, much like a baseball bat. "Return my gold coin, and we could resolve this civilly."
Attack: 23 Damage: 10
Bonus attack: 6 Damage: 3
I just saw that bardic inspiration... let's use it on the second roll: 2
(We are into the initiative segment where all the party get an action before Gorth acts again, so Hayle can still act in her frst round, and Delanra and Thokk have their second round actions in this wave. @DM - as we seem to be attacking Gorth from multiple directions, do you use flanking?)
Seeing her first spell land a solid hit, along with both Halis and Thokk making solid connections on Gorth, Delanra decides that there is no need to change a working formula. Once more she focuses her magic and creates a fiery projectile flying towads Gorth.
Action: Fire Bolt - Attack: 14 Damage: 2 Movement: Stays in place with whatever cover is available
As soon as Gorth swings back at Thokk, Hayle releases her hold on the entity within her. Out of the ground beside her a translucent tentacle whipped forward. As it did so, colours shimmered over its surface, blues, greens, greys, black and white. It reminded her of the surface of the ocean at the height of a storm. The tentacle lashes out at Gorth, trying to lash him around the legs. (Tentacle of the Deeps Attack: 20 Damage: 7 Cold - Speed reduced by 10ft).
Then, hoping to keep some distance between herself and the half-ogre, Hayle moves a further 20 feet down the alleyway.

Watching Gorth getting knocked around, Thokk exclaims, "You not smart. No start fight outnumbered." And again, he flat blades him to subdue, thinking he should be going down soon. Attack: 21 Damage: 5
Like a semi-regular, partially-inebriated dance, the group lays into the unsuspecting sod with a practiced ease. An errant stab flies wide as Syl laughs at his own joke (par for the course, if we're being honest). Halis' eyes flash a bright silver as he draws a long, stinging slice across Gorth's chest which the half-ogre immediately clutches with his free hand and jerks forward causing the follow up strike to sail by without connecting. A haughty, uninterested flip of the wrist sends another wicked mote of fire streaking from Delanra's hand which strikes the brute between the shoulder blades as Hayle takes a step back and swirls her arms in the air causing a writhing, spectral tentacle to spring from the alley floor and sweep the legs of the off-balance Gorth from under him. As he begins to fall, Thokk voices his disapproval of his opponent's decision-making abilities before swinging the flat of his axeblade at your would-be-mugger's head. The resulting shockwave visibly carries down the now-unconscious Gorth's form in midair and causes his descent to pivot a full 90 degrees.
As you look down, giving your best tsks and headshakes, you could swear you see little incorporeal birds flying around a large bump rapidly growing from his forehead.
Catching a glimpse of movement in your periphery, you look up to see that darn tabby cat dart back into the alley. He stops to glance at and sniff the hollowed-out area of rags and detritus that Gorth emerged from -- apparently some sort of small hovel -- before peering at you quizzically and seemingly expectantly. The note is still tied to his tail.
"Well, that was certainly easier than giving up gold. I don't know why anyone would ever choose the hard way," Hayle chuckles. As she steps around Gorth, the tentacles writhe and snake back into her arms, melting into the ether as they do so. For just a second, the colours shimmer up her body and across her face, before disappearing down her throut. "Looks like Gus is back. I don't know about the rest of you, but I am too invested now to give up. Where do you think this cat is leading us?"
Halis sighs and looks put out as he squats and daintily digs through Gorth's fallen form with one hand, the other pinching his nose shut. Finding his gold coin, he wipes both sides of it off on his tunic before re-pocketing it.
"Well. That was unpleasant." Looking over, he sees Gus still holding up the sign and his brow wrinkles.
Yes, yes,he sends to the cat. Why don't you stand still and let us take that ridiculous sign off of your butt? We are following you anyway and you're doing your dignity no favors by holding it aloft.
"I assume he is leading us to his cat-haven, where undoubtedly he and his compatriots are being mercilessly assaulted by the forces of darkness which requires the aid of our merry band to push back for the sake of cats everywhere,"Halis says to Hayle.

Returning to the group now the brutish figure is lying helpless on the floor, Delanra chimes in as Thokk accosts the feline's derrier with his less than delicate hands, "The trick is to withdraw your capital before an investment turns for the worse my dear Hayle. A quest to cat-haven to aid against the lesser evils of the world harldy sounds like we will find glory, wealth and renown at the finale. The cat has done nothing of merit by my accounting, and if the rest of you choose to continue on this es-cat-pade, I reserve the right to say 'I told you so' indefinitely." She follows Gus' gaze to where Gorth emerged from and tries to make out what drew the cat's attention.
The cat looks to Halis quizzically for a moment, with head tilted to the side, before shaking it off and continuing. As Thokk approaches, he backs away a few paces. When Syl cracks his pun, the cat pounces onto his face and starts clawing...
...or that's what he's clearly imagining, at least.
Delanra, among the refuse you find 140cp, 50sp, and an electrum-trimmed dagger scabbard (missing its dagger) that was carefully wrapped in a dirty rag.
Once Thokk gives up on chasing the kitty-kitty around the alley, he eventually leaps to the center of your group and sits, regarding each of you in turn between bouts of cleaning and straightening his fur. There's a small throat clearing cough before he begins to speak in common in a rather cultured voice.
"I do apologize for that little mishap, but I took a foolish shortcut -- there is very little time left, you see. My name is Asparagus but, as some of you have already take to, you may call me Gus if you wish. Please come with me for now for we are nearly there!"
He turns and runs to the far end of the alley, crosses a narrow street, and enters a small, abandoned warehouse. The building looks to be about 40 feet wide and made of brick. It has boarded up windows, a broken door, and is in a generally dilapidated state.
Do you follow?
Sorry for the stupid "Do you follow?" when there's only one thread to pull. XD There's more exposition but I'll need to get to it after work and wanted to let you guys play in the meantime if you feel so inclined.
Thokk stands stone still with a quizzical expression on this face, taking account of a glacially slow process before thinking aloud.
"Thokk think... Thokk think, all thin's be finite-like... If on long 'nuff time line, all investment go bad. Not immortal. Thokk wonder if reclaim investment maybe mean dump negative externalities on udder investors. Udder investors like allies. Maybe if investor unwilling take loss, that like let down allies, make allies pay. Thokk think maybe investor have moral obligation, lose investment for sake of com-rad..." He pauses again and then adds, "Gus cute kitty-kitty, but Gus prolly not make good accountant."
Thokk is still holding out for a non-violent solution. "Now see 'ere-" He flat-blades Gork, hoping to subdue.
