I knew what you meant. Have you never seen Hellraiser?!? Wait, are you old enough to see R movies? If not then don’t watch it. If you are, Have you never seen Hellraiser?!? It’s not “good,” but it is iconic.
I have been wanting a giant CSM pauldron with a massive Mark of Slaanesh as a full-color, half-sleeve tattoo for my right shoulder and upper arm for over a year, but so ‘spensive!
Background: Born in a farm community on a small rift to the fire plane, both of his parents are normal humans. After a giant attack on the farm killed several of his friends and rendered him forever afraid of giants, he prayed for help; for the power to fight back. A Celestial being known as Zhabarri the Guide answered his prayers, coming to him and telling him he had a bigger destiny than that of a farmer.
The former farmer and newly minted warlock left his home, family, and secret shame (an unborn child and its' mother) behind to travel the world and fight the good fight, following the guidance of Zhabarri. After adventuring for some time (starting at level 3) and gaining a bit of gold and some renown, he's grown to enjoy the vices and trappings of the high life. While his goals to help people and fight the good fight for it's own sake haven't changed, he takes every opportunity he gets to enjoy the decadent vices of the world.
One of his goals is to understand where he comes from and connect with a genasi community.
In the mountains dragon born clans live a harsh life and none harsher then Norok. He was found in the wild and adopted by the clan Shurrhal. As a boy he was quiet and spent a lot of time watching the hunters fight. Eventually he was able to join them and to prove him self in the ring. Despite this he was never truly excepted in the clan and he felt it all his life. Instead of feeling ashamed or outcasted he worked harder then ever to prove him self if some one caught 2 deer he would not rest until he caught three for this they named him fierce kin or Norok Fron. Although the name was a complement to him it just showed he was different. On his 20th name day every thing changed. Raiders from another clan attacked and it was there he felt his first feeling of kinship. Standing side to side with the other fighters of the clan, protecting other and defending those that are weaker. From that day on he proudly bore the name Fron. How ever at his 30th name day he was sent on a quest like the other men of the village to head out into the world and do great deeds.
Current leader of worst turn.
he got a thunderzooka but no one on the party had protection gear so the party ended up blinded and deafened and to top it off he missed the target.
Story: (in spoiler, feedback is more than welcome!!! as she is my first d&d character, i’m really proud of it!)
Faininth Seavshoon was the daughter of two tiefling pirates on their ship known as The Salty Reaver. Her mother, Nevine, and father, Gale, were the captain and first mate respectively - they were very well known and notorious for their cutthroat lifestyle, although they greatly cared for their children. She spent the first twelve years of her life learning to sail and helped the crew with chores, since she wasn’t old enough to participate in raids. The crew was very diverse, but Faininth was taught to never trust a human, and her parents refused to take any humans into their crew due to past betrayals. Nevertheless, she was very close with her family, especially her twin brother, Faeldor. Their ship was eventually ambushed by mercenaries, hired by angry human nobles whose ships they frequently raided for supplies and wealth. In the chaos, Faininth’s parents were killed along with her brother. As they were docked, she managed to grab a belaying pin, silk rope, her father’s lucky rabbit foot, and a bit of gold, and ran away, later discovering that the surviving crew members were executed for their crimes. The event became known as The Massacre of The Salty Reaver, and was meant to be a warning to all pirates of what would happen should they be caught.
As the last survivor of her ship, Faininth was wanted for a while, and still has a bad reputation for her position on The Salty Reaver. She lived on the streets for six months afterward, stealing food to survive and being kicked around for just existing as a tiefling, until she tried pickpocketing gold off of a mysterious human man, who caught her but took pity on her, a dirt-covered little girl, leaving her alive. Despite being raised to resent humans, she followed him around the town, feeling as though he was not a bad man, until he decided to take her in and let her travel with him. Faininth learned that his name was Vrozle Solarias, a Blood Hunter under the Order of the Lycan. Over time, he realized that keeping an untrained child with him was dangerous, and felt inclined to make her his apprentice, if only because he wanted her to be able to defend herself if he wasn’t around. However, he was reluctant at first, as the path of a Blood Hunter was extremely difficult, and he didn’t want this child to be corrupted by his life of fighting monsters. Finally, she convinced him to train her, and became his protégée. He also officially adopted her, as she had already become like a daughter to him. He saw past the fact that she was a tiefling - it wasn’t her fault, anyway, and did his best to teach her that she should be treated with respect, not like a monster.
By the age of 22, Faininth was exceptionally talented when it came to fighting and helped her aging master often with battle and traveling. On one cloudy night, Faininth and Vrozle were ambushed by a chimera, and the latter was dealt fatal wounds, being mauled beyond the point of healing. Faininth stayed with him until he died, his last words still clear in her head: “Even if everyone calls you one, always remember that you are not, and will never be a monster.” He left all of his possessions to her as well. After that, due to her anger from Vrozle’s death, she quickly joined the order of Blood Hunters. She didn’t originally want to become one, but wished to avenge her adopted father’s death, the only person who made an effort to understand her pain of losing her biological family. Among her inherited items was the rapier that Vrozle used, and it became one of her signature weapons. Since then, she has made a name for herself throughout the land, feared by many for being a former pirate, tiefling, and a Blood Hunter.
so, she lived in a small colony of yuan-ti who lived in a desert city. She was a mystic, who could commune with the spirits of their ancestors for guidance. She was highly renowned for her power, but one day, it went wrong. The clan’s ancestors were dissatisfied with the colonies lack of conquering. They wanted the old empire to return, and these passive yuan-ti wanted none of it. So the ancients took it into their own hands. Possessing Delphi’i, they caused her to ravage her colony, and destroy her family home. She was exiled from her tribe, and the ancestors continue to channel themselves through her. She now travels the world, looking for a way to get rid of her powers. Roleplay wise, she is a very kind person, and a pacifist who hates fighting. However, she enters rage whenever she gets overwhelmed or something. At that point, her ancestors posses her, and she goes into a massive killing streak on everyone and becomes a massive jerk. However, she can occasionally break herself out of it, but that usually ends with her going unconscious. (And happens at the worst times.....) otherwise her teammates have to knock her out.

Some people's backstories are more like narrations of the character's entire life from start to present. It's crazy.
I'm not begging for attention, but if you like World Anvil, go give me a look.
I went the route of explaining why my character has their personality traits, flaws, ideal, and bond.

I wrote up these questions to ask about my characters and shape the story from there
Since no sane person would fight horrors; what major event propelled your character into the deadly career of an adventurer?
Name at least 1 person you wronged in the past?
Who/What does your character hate?
Who/what does your character fear?
What specific thing would you kill to have/learn?
Any cool detail(s) about your character?
What is your biggest goal you want to achieve?
What sin/vice are you prone to?
What is one secret you have that you will keep at any cost?
How many games are you playing?
