So im starting up an Eberron game in a bit and you know I'm gonna have a train session. Now I know train murder mysteries might be played out (for a reason, they're great), so I'm trying to think of other crimes that might make for a good train mystery bottle episode. Trying to solve a jewel heist could be fun, or maybe try and *prevent* a murder? Lemme know if you have any ideas for some of those good good train crimes.
There was a Doctor Who episode a few years ago about a killer mummy on a train. Also, one of my favorite novels by Michael Crichton is The Great Train Robbery. Not a good “bottle episode” but you might find it useful.
Until I saw Snowpiercer, I would not have considered attempted genocide to be a good train mystery crime, but hey...
And, if we're thinking outside the box, Train to Busan. Zombie plague breaks out on the train and if the party doesn't survive and solve the mystery of how to cure it before the train crashes into the station at Sharn...

Oooooooo, I hadn't thought of lifting Mummy on the Orient Express... the whole "it was an alien soldier still fighting the war" could work really well with the Last War...
Missing person? Not even an actual body for evidence...
How about a wave of suicides?
Finding a bomb planted on the train?
A missing person could work well too. Maybe some noble's fiance goes missing without a trace, and it turns out the "fiance" was really just a changeling conning the noble out of his family jewels (pun maybe intended) before changing into someone else while on the train and effectively disappearing...
A bit late to the party, but perhaps the train is speeding into dangerous territory, or there's some sort of obstacle on the tracks, and only they know of it. They'd have to make it from the back of the train to the front, making their way through all kinds of different train cars, each with their own little obstacles.

I am going to have to resist HARD the temptation to do Snakes in a Train XD
Good suggestions everyone, thanks a ton, I think I've got what I need!
