Usually this happens because one of your description or snippet fields is blank (or very short). For some reason, Circle of Spores is the one that gets called out as being "too similar" to something that's blank.
Also, I'll mention this just because a lot of people seem to not be aware of it: publishing is only necessary if you want strangers to be able to use it. You (and anyone in your campaigns) can use it without publishing it.

Adding onto this, it would seem that when you're making a new subclass and do not click "save" on the main Subclass screen (as in only saving each feature individually and not the main page of the subclass), then the subclass will also display as "too similar to Circle of Spores".

Yeah, what's happening there is that the process that checks whether it's too similar to other stuff doesn't run again until you click that main Save button, even if you've been clicking save on the individual features or other ancillary things. It'd be nice if that were documented somewhere on that screen, but it has been officially confirmed that that's how it works.
