I dont want to rush, but is there any idea when the next competition will be going up?
When everyone agrees on the rules moving forward. Semako and I have agreed on the topics.
How will you determine that everyone is in agreement? Are we taking a poll or something? I have put forward my opinions, but ultimately you can decide what you want to enforce for the next iteration. If you are hoping to establish a sort of "quorum" among the usual participants on changing the rules before moving forward, we will likely be waiting a while for everyone

How about the following: the highest average is the winner, becoming the next judge. The category winners choose the next category, but can't participate in those categories. Judge creates the poll with google forms. We can keep discussing this (preferably in a dedicated thread), but I think we should move forward with some provisional rules in the meantime. I think creating multiple google forms is redundant, and votes can be verified by everybody, anyway.

That’s up to everybody else.
To be clear here, how are you defining "everyone else"? Do you mean everyone who voted in the last competition? Everyone who commented about the rules change? Basically, is there a specific subset of users you are looking for agreement from? Depending on how often they check this thread or if they are even still subscribed, you may have to reach out them over a private message to get a response from everyone

However this is being "officially" considered, I vote to move forward with Heartofjuyomk2's suggested changes to the rules for the next competition for the time being.
I would like to make it clear that using the highest average will only work if you consider a non-submission to be a "0".
Example: Bob and Jenny enter the competition. Bob enters 2 categories and Jenny enters 1. Bob gets a 5/5, perfect score for one entry, and a 2 for the other. Jenny gets a 4 for her one entry.
Bob's average is 3.5, and Jenny's average is 4. So Jenny wins, despite Bob getting a perfect score for one of his entries. This promotes people not entering any category they don't consider themselves to have a strong position in, for fear of dragging their average down.
I appreciate "Average" to be an easy way to look at things, but it is not an unbiased system - and surely we want to promote more homebrew, not less!

By average, I meant average score for the winning entry, not average across multiple submissions!

The word "average" here may have bee a bit misleading. It is the score of your highest submission (the other's are ignored, just extra chanced to have a high score) that counts. The overall highest is the winner. The only thing that makes it an "average" is you are taking the average of all rankings of the one piece of content. So for example in this competition ImaSposta would have won, because their highest ranked submission, Time Raider, had an average of 4.53 which was larger than the average of the highest ranked submission of any other contestant.

I disagree with this, sorry. I still believe the one with the most category wins should be the overall winner if we keep declaring an overall winner instead of just honoring a winner for each individual category.
Again, submitting good homebrew to multiple categories takes a whole lot more effort than submitting to just one category, and a few (troll or just lazy, like "too long") votes can easily tilt the score of an entry.

Our way of compensating is to have each winner of the individual categories choose the next theme for that category. By being the overall winner, all you are reward with is the extra work of creating the thread and polls. This way, the more valuable rewards, ie choosing the themes, are linked to winning more categories. So by winnowing more categories you get to choose more themes.
Also, by taking the highest as apposed to the average of all submissions, it still rewards subtitling multiple entries. You get multiple chances to have one of your submissions perform well is you submit multiple.
I think it's the best compromise we have so far. It rewards both submitting many, and taking time to make sure each is good. It walks the line between average and most categories to please the most people. It's not perfect, but it seems to be the best and most supported idea yet. We're open if you have a better idea, but so far this seems the best.
Just wanna pop in and say that I think it works to have highest average score win the overall competition, because while it might slightly pull towards not posting as much homebrew, the upside is that the homebrew that people do work on will have more effort put into it. There's nothing stopping people from submitting multiple, and in fact you might do better if you submit another if your original submission turns out to not get a great reception, but average seems like the simplest and most fair way to do it.
Hosted a battle between the Cult of Sedge and the Forum Countershere(Done now). I_Love_Tarrasques has won the fight, scoring a victory for the fiendish Moderators.
I think we're down to two option that I've seen raised on here and then argued for:
Option 1: The overall winner is the one with the most winning entries, or the highest single score if tied, and then the highest total score if tied again (IE if 2 participants have 1 win with the same score in 2 categories, whoever got the highest total between their up-to-3 entries wins)
Option 2: The overall winner is the one with the single highest score, and highest total score if tied (see above).
Same for both: The winner of each category picks the next theme and cannot compete. Given the concerns over vote manipulation, I suggest that the winner of each also makes the poll. This would lend perhaps more weight to Option 1 above, as the participant who wins the most categories will be the one excluded from the most in the next round, so it actually seems more fair to have the most winning entries win. Most of the time, we expect it to be 3 different participants, so it will work like option 2, but winning 2/3 categories should probably count as something. It's not so much that it's because it's more difficult to enter more of them; it's more as compensation that you can only enter one category next round!
So, does anyone have any other options before I make a poll to settle this?
I enter this competition not because I want to be the best or most liked creator out there, but to improve my ability to make clear and easily run homebrew for others to use; It may be a competition, but seeing as there's no monetary reward for winning, I think everyone should focus more on having fun and making connections in the community rather than winning at all costs. This whole series (to me) has been about sharing our imagination with like-minded people who have a passion for D&D.
Just something I feel we should keep in mind going forward; This should be a place to make friends, not enemies.
