My players are wanting me to add grenades and bombs to the world (we already have barrels of black powder and a larger siege cannon called a bombard) ... i'm not apposed to the idea as long as they are a rare and powerful item. I was thinking about making it almost like a magic scroll .... that anyone could use ... in concept ... but how much damage and what kind? Below is a sketch i drew up as a possible level for the basic Grenade ... not to be confused with the Holy Hand Grenade....
Does this seem to strong? to weak? i debated what kind of damage the shock wave would do in zone 2 ... i think all of them will have have a dex saving through where you can go prone and avoid all damage .... does that idea make sense? these will be very basic grenades little more than a clay pot full of black powder...

The Dungeon Master's Guide already has rules for explosives in Chapter 9.
