I'm not sure if im just not typing the right keywords but I can't find what i'm looking for. I am making an item that requires a donation of resource to be usable maybe like a curse. If that is possible can I make it scale with different levels? For example this item requires base of 1 ki point a day and at every class milestone 5, 11, and 17 an additional point would be required to grow. I know I could most likely do this by adding a staged weapon like a sentient weapon, but the donation of ki question still stands.
With 1 exception, you cannot have homebrew use the resources from other sources beyond mere text (and the player would then need to mark off that resource use manually).
The only exception is spells using spell slots : races and subclasses can add spells that use spell slots.
in your example of "ki" use: no. You can describe "it costs X ki points" but that's all it can be: text. The player would have to tick off the ki points used manually under their features tab.

Is it possible to add your own counter similar to Ki?
e.g. I want to make a jedi subclass based off of KotOR, can I add force points that you spend to use force powers?
Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask this.
For race, feats and subclass features there is a "limited uses" system which will work similar to Ki/Sorcery Points/etc.
