I am currently trying to create a fighter subclass that allows him to cast spells through expending charges. I’m scaling the points given with the Eldritch Knight subclass and the variant spell points rule in the DMG. I don’t understand enough about the code for tables to create a version that makes a marker similar to Monk ki points for spells, however, so I am wondering if anyone does. Thanks!
I’m not sure, but I believe you meant to add a spell to the feature, as the add an action thing doesn’t let me select a specific spell, and I can’t see a way to add a point cost
I don’t know of any way to add points to the subclass
Why do you think the Eldritch Knight scaling would have 7 charges? With the spell points rule it has 4 at 3rd level to 32 at 20th level.
Sorry if I’m misunderstanding your method, but I can’t figure out how it works. If you could clarify a bit, that might help a lot. Thanks!
Under the current homebrew system if you add a spellcasting feature it is still going to default to whatever the class normally does. The method I proposed is just a way to add a spell point tracker to the character sheet that you could use instead of the spell slots. 7 is not the spell points it is the number of entries, because the spell points would scale as you leveled up. At level 20 an Eldritch Knight would be an equivalent 7th level spellcaster. I'll be honest though, I don't know of any way to make it work smoothly because you can't homebrew base class features yet.
Just wanna say this thread helped me! Followed Houligan's explanation step by step and fixed something in 5 minutes when I was running around for an hour trying to put circle codes in square formulas!

One option to get a trackable pool onto your character sheet is to do the following:
I'd be interested to hear if anyone knows a better method.

This came up in the General Discussion recently as well.

Give your class feature an Action. Give the Action a reset type, save and re-edit, add the limited uses as applicable.
